What then?

Why let the "market" decide what`s next......silly...

Oh.....the injury the doctors gave you?......

The kidneys they ruined with the wrong drugs, the throat the radiologist cooked to the point where you can no longer swallow, the gangrene that took both your feet, get over it.

You`re fucked.

Go find another doctor. It`s a free country.

Fewer illegal aliens?

Fewer big liberal cities pushing governmental dependency?

I dont know. You tell me.

Even according to the far lef Guardian though, theyre spiraling downward due to leftist policies:

One in five households in fuel poverty as energy prices soar

5.5m homes spend over 10% of income on fuel, and bills will rise further to fund new power networks

    http://www.opportunitystudies.org/repository/File/fuel%20poverty.pdf

Yeah, we aint got that here, we must be spiraling up, eh, tommie? It has to be because of something that has nothing to do with anything, just like the rabid right says.

Some might.  Some do not.  Gary has had the same insurance for 40 years.  They did not drop him 20 years ago when his lungs began to get very bad.  They did not drop him 10 years ago when he needed a lung transplant.

    Thank heavens for that.

Some DO and some do not.

They call it rescission. They have whole staffs looking at any possible way to dump someone. There is a profit incentive to do this so of course, insurance companies do it.They don`t call it abandonment, that`s not politically correct.

Best of luck to your family.

    Bullshit.

Are you really claiming that it isn't true? Need I remind you my former employers HI provider dropped our entire group plan on the last day it was legal to do so? Which was less than a month after I started filing insurance claims for my dialysis.

    * Hip and knee replacements only being allowed where patients are in severe pain. Overweight patients will be made to lose weight before being considered for an operation.

that is an interesting concept except how does someone overweight lose weight when they cant move/exercise? (scratches head)

In addition to expending more calories to lose weight, one can also consume less calories.

I think it's reasonable to have the patient lose weight to rule out excess weight as the sole cause of the knee pain (which was true for me previously. I have since hurt my knees on the knee extension machine at the gym >_<. Everyone has recommended swimming as a non-impact form of cardio vascular exercise.)

My neighbor, who had private health insurance, was mandated to lost 30# before his surgery. Additionally:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knee_replacement#Risks_and_complications

A recent literature review showed that there is increased risk in complications for morbidly obese patients after going through total knee replacement, these patients should be advised to lose weight before surgery and, if suitable, would probably benefit from bariatric surgery.

Does NHS toss people out on the curb?

I have to agree with this!  So its 6 of one or half dozen of the other.  Only it hurts more when the premiums are paid and coming directly out of your salary instead of your taxes and you still have to come up with ways to get the care you need.

I'm sorry to hear this - best wishes. This behavior was well documented in Sicko. I'm sure people's opinions of the movie will come in on the usual party lines.

Sanity facts are facts... with all their warts they have fewer people living in poverty then we do...their warts are not as bad as ours evidently. So it should be a little hard for you to criticize a system that is working better than ours don’t you think?

yes of course one can eat less but still, that is only part of it and it depends more imo on how efficient your metabolism is, plus as you get older it slows down quite a bit.

Swimming is all well and good but i have not gone to a pool since i was a kid, i cant stand the chlorine and i have never found a public/gym with a saline pool. The gym I go to in SoCal is new and they have 3 pools, all or chlorine. [&o]

The term used was overweight, not obese, there is a difference. Overweight may not be that much over. I guess the trick is to not let yourself get to that point in the first place... but then if you werent very overweight/obese perhaps you wouldnt need much of the medical care either since you wouldnt have had as much (weight related) stress on your knees, get diabetes, heart problems, etc, etc.. By the same reasoning tho, do they make cancer & heart patients stop smoking before giving treatment? [8|]

    No, they don't.
In fact none of the socialist nanny States in the western world which provide healthcare for the unproductive scum by taxing the Galtian ubermensch do anything of the sort. Are there insurers in the Land of the Free who try to claim that as an excuse not to deliver the healthcare somebody's been paying for over the bulk of their working life?

With the money they save not having to pay outlandish healthcare costs they can afford to take a nice holiday to Thailand and get their operation if they don’t want to wait and still come out ahead money wise.

    Butch

the main problem with travel to Thailand or India or any of those places is that if you pick the wrong Doctor & he/she is negligent and they screw it up, then you cant sue his/her ass off as you can in the US, etc.
No, the main problem is that India is the breeding ground for all kinds of nasty microbes, like VRSA, which has been transported to the West by medical "tourists".

Ya, chlorine bothers me too. My YMCA in FL had saline-cleaned pools. I was also able to swim in the ocean most of the year. Now that I am up in MA, I'll have to stop swimming in the lake in a month or two (and the ocean is NEVER warm enough, IMO.)

While my story is no substitute for your own competent medical advice, my brother in law (a Harvard-trained orthopedic surgeon) a physical therapist at the VA, and a personal trainer at LA Fitness, all had identical advice for how to get cardiovascular exercise despite my knee condition (pain with activity), which was, in descending order:

    1. Swim
    2. Bike
    3. Elliptical

I had avoided biking b/c I thought it would be hard on my knees but found that it was not so. I listened to books on tape while I did this. I don't have the stamina to elliptical for enough time to provide a cardio benefit

I would really like to swim again if i could find a way to do that without chlorine...
I do the elliptical, treadmill (walking on an incline only) and bike thing but my problem with the elliptical or treadmill is my feet start to hurt, that is where the stress hits me. I can go for a certain length of time and be ok tho. When i hit 45 minutes tho, thats it for me. I used to go to the gym twice, doing 45 minutes each time, pretty full tilt too (globs of glowiness). I am trying to get back into that routine.. need to get back to lifting weights too...

I would think if that is the case then any non-medical tourists would be transporting said microbes too.

absolutely no thanks! I have a back problem but its manageable for me, but i tried yoga and i hurt so much after. I had been a long time since I had been in so much pain. The next day i went to my chiropractor and he told me no more yoga! I have heard from other sources to be very careful about putting too much stress on the back from doing certain yoga & other exercises.

Doing yoga might be ok for someone that doesnt have a back problem, but thats not gonna work for me.
