After reading the transcript it appears the DoI IG sent a crew of criminal investigators with no scientific training or credentials after this guy because of some anonymous claim of something untoward in a multi year whale census. I simply don't buy the claims by the IG's people.

Liar, I posted the full and complete transcript of the investigators interview with the scientist and he had to explain in very basic detail what he did and he had to keep correcting their serious misconceptions.

My reaction was much the same as yours dcnovice. A few investigators on a fishing expedition who were way out of their depth.

I didn't spot anything irregular in my (incomplete) skim of the document. Though I did wonder why would any one send 'criminal investigators' if the issue involved is one of 'scientific fraud'? They're hardly qualified to make such a finding are they? We wouldn't send scientists to investigate a murder would we? As I understand it, criminal investigators might become involved after scientists had established that 'scientific fraud' had taken place, but only if the criminal law was broken in the commission of that scientific fraud. I didn't spot any evidence to indicate any of the above.

It all sounds quite odd. If I was looking into it any further I'd definitely be checking out whether the forthcoming oil-drilling decision had any impact on the decision to investigate .....

Nor have I seen any evidence to suggest Willbur is capable of recognising a genuine integrity issue even if one jumped up and bit him in the face. He's far more familiar with political chicanery.

I'm looking at political motivations.

The guy was flying over the arctic ocean on a whale census. He saw dead polar bears floating far away from the pack ice, assumed they drowned, took pictures and reported what he saw with apparently no embellishment.

Others used that and ran with it so why is he being suspended and not allowed to talk to reporters?

Something stinks in political land.

It`s starts 1st, with an anti-environmental mind-set.

Cons aren`t interested is things that might interrupt commerce/polluters/business and over time have grown to loath anything connected with environmentalism,even remotely.

No one will say out-loud the are FOR polluting,cept Glenn Beck(who claims he burns tires just to piss off tree-huggers)but when it comes to doing anything about it,they ARE FOR polluting.In fact,we`ll get you a tax break to help you pollute.

As the world science community has started coming to the conclusion that we are negatively impacting our environment(our home,really) with our activities,cons have been growing more and more anti-science.

It`s not anti-knowledge or that they know about science.

It`s political.

Science just happens to be on the wrong side of the fence.

Then,cons started trying to discredit science and research in various well funded ways.One, is fake corporate sponsored science, which amazingly and coincidentally, favors said corporate POV.Then cons can say,"hey,we got scientists too so that cancels out your scientific findings,in so many words.

Another effort,a well funded braitbart type campaign to create a narrative that the world science community is perpetrating a fraud about climate change and global warming.

This story or at least the spin is,this guy is another member of the secret cult of liberal tree-huggers.

Any scientist or researcher who was part of Al Gore`s devastatingly affective film is going to be a target of the smear campaign.

Again it`s not scientific reasons for the attacks on science and research.

It`s political.
