Status: offline 		Till there is a vote and the details known I wouldnt declare victory for either side. The general framework in the article does sound favorable, and Im watching govtrack for details.

Sure it was. Compare the going in positions to the final result and tell me the final result was even close to being known in January.

And of course it is.... you cannot govern if you cannot get elected.  Our economy and especially our tax codes need a major overhaul. Why do you fear an election with that as a core issue?

Obama showed ZERO leadership in this case. Two weeks ago, he should have said to the Republicans...

"Vote for a one-line bill to raise the debt ceiling within one week, or I will instruct the US Treasury to meet our obligations any way they deem necessary in order to protect the full faith and credit of the US." "And by the way, I will be presenting my plan for deficit reduction tomorrow"

His method of "leading" is the equivalent of his love voting "absent". If he never takes a position he can never be accused of taking the wrong position.

It is somewhat ironic that the only thing that can save Obama in 2012 is the Tea Party forcing economic policy on him that will actually work. Take a look at an electoral map after redistribution of delegates and redistricting. The election is likely to depend on 5 states...and if the GOP wins any one of them, done deal.

I wouldn't go anywhere near that far, DG.  The stage is set for one hell of a dirty, polarizing fight.  Look at the rhetoric that came into play through this performance.  The Dems are only going to ramp it up further for the election.  Next November will be decided by the independents, and the dumbasses who vote for the tall one.  If the economy starts improving, he has a good shot, if not, he can go scoop up the Bo droppings on the Rezco Lawn.

As I'm reading what I'm seeing of the reports, it looks like Obama traded away his tax increases, in exchange for getting the debt limit hike to carry past the election.
