yeah -- i like that you can do that without having to take yourself completely off the site, like you'd have to here. if you don't like the atmosphere somewhere, you can just try somewhere else. =p

To me, CM is a "group" and FL has a bunch of other groups. I like seeing the various takes on things - CM gives one aspect of insight but the overall belief systems are not the end all, be all. Same with the individual FL groups. Same with the offline groups. I enjoy seeing all the differences.
And I like that you can see where your friends have posted and follow them there. It's how I've discovered other cool groups.
agreed -- sometimes i wish you could hide some activity, like in the old days when i was really active there and probably obliterated people's activity feeds. but now they've added the mute feature for paying members which seems bad, too, because what's the point of being friends with someone if you're not going to talk to them? =p
i don't add friends at random, i add people who i'm interested in in some way, whether it's just in following their brainwaves, or really becoming friends. some people have suggested changing the "Friends" title to something else a little less "serious." and i have to agree with that; i would still choose to only add people who i either know or have talked to, but to me "friends" means something different than the way it's used on FL. STILL, collarme has the exact same thing, and i don't accept "drive by friend requests" here either. =p so it's not really a slight to FL since basically every networking site does the same thing.
and yes -- i also see CM as one big group. it has its own attitude, climate, regular posters, etc. certain things are acceptable to talk about while others aren't. on FL, there are groups for those other things, and for people who would ordinarily be unable to express themselves here. i love the variety of FL. you can join a group that's ONLY about anal hooks, and you can find groups with fantastically stimulating theoretical, relationship/dynamic, or even vanilla geeky discussions.
it's great. i also like the possibility of a multitude of perspectives. you kinda know what perspective you're going to get around here if you've been here longer than a week =p; not so on Fetlife.

I really like that too. During my neither submissive nor dominant period I was able to describe myself as Vanilla. Here I had to choose one or the other, neither of which fit.
and this, i can very much agree with. on FL there is room for more types of people. i think, particularly with men, some of them are uncomfortable with calling themselves anything but Dominant here, because there aren't a ton of choices. they aren't submissive, aren't exactly switchy, but still aren't interested in dominance outside of a scene. They'd rather just be a Top, but they may not know a word for it. =p FL has all sorts of designations, kinkster, fetishist, sub, slave, butch, unsure, top, master, sadomasochist, etc etc.
female dominants who hate the word "Domme" can just pick Dom if they want.
it's a lot more personal and you can find something that fits you a little easier.
