The NEW YORK REVIEW OF BOOKS had an article that the winner of US elections is the candidate who gets the most voters out. Had the voter rolls (who voted) mirrored the 2010 percentages during the Presidential election, McCain would have won.

What message will Obama deliver to get voters out to the booths? Republicans are trying to portray him as the arsonist when in fact he's been the fireman. (IRAQ, Afghanistan, and Banking Crisis.)

The main critique of Obama is that he fails to connect with voters b/c he's too bookish. In his favor, the Republicans have no ideas and an abysmal record.

That may be the case for you, yet two things, that's a potentially much more personal attachment, which I don't have with this girl and I just don't get squicked out over things like that because I usually have perspective in the situation.

All this particular moment, when I see (Suze?),  does for me,  is bring back a few memories of Amanda in school (Which brings a smile to my face). No biggie.

That will no doubt wear off soon enough.

The only time I can think of off hand that I've ever been really taken back was when I came to work and two of the girls I worked with came running up to me to talk to me about my earlier visit. I hadn't been by the restaurant that day.... I thought they were being goofy till a few days later "my double" came to eat. I couldn't get a good luck at him so when he went to the buffet I walked from the bakery to stand next to him at the glassed backing wall. He finally raised his head and looked right into the mirror with me looking back at him.

I was around 155 then and he was about 185..minus the weight difference, we looked like twins. We talked for a bit and that was about it.

Now that was trippy.

certainly seems that way...

It's a bit hard to imagine that nobody on that side is any good.

I had a customer who I talk politics with on occasion and she suggested Rick Perry.  I've watched that guy and listened to his speeches and he just seems so friggin fake. He's what I think of when I think of politicians. Grimmy, untrustworthy, sneaky and just all around shitty for America.

I don't know, there's a girl in the UK who's profile pops up on occasion when I go to log in, and she looks so much like my daughter that it really causes me to do a double take every time it pops up. I think I would find it a little creepy if she started posting here with a picture of herself as her avatar.

I apparently have a double in Germany. One time i was in the elevator in a swanky hotel going to a seminar and this guy gets on the elevator. He looked at me and called me by my first name. Quite surprised, I asked him how he knew my name. He told me we met in Germany. I told him no, that wasnt me.. it wasnt of course since the only time I have been there was when I was 10 years old. So not only was she my double, but she had my freakin name too!

I sometimes wonder under what circumstances my double met this man... for some strange reason, I keep thinking it was on the naughty side...

Read on.

Some of the things supposedly said by Ron Paul were pretty bad. I'm not so sure he said them. It doesn't seem to fit his writing or the type of man he seems to be. Many of the people on other forums brought up that he's a Libertarian, he's stated it himself and all went on to say that by definition Libertarians "can't" be racists.

A great many people don't buy it. Ya know, to me he seems like the ONLY politician that actually is doing his job as it was intended. It would be a crying shame if in fact that was all an attempt to discredit/attack and we were to lose out on real change.

On the flip side, even though I think we should get rid of some of the "entitlements" in the government, I'd be pretty sick if I thought there was a racial agenda behind doing so.

To read some of the things he's accomplished for ALL of us over his time in office, I sincerely doubt the accusations are true or that we'll ever do better than someone like him in the foreseeable future. It's four years, how much more fucked up of a direction can one term get us than we already are headed in with the current potential selection.

No I'm not advocating voting for the least harmful...just throwing out random thoughts and facts as I see them.

Do you really think that one man, even if he should be President, can fix this total fuck-up that has been going on for several terms (by both parties)? If you do then you have waaay more faith than I do.. but then i have no say anyhow, i dont envy voters tho..

Couple of things bother me though.. Nobody in the time those publications were running came to him and said "Hey..WTF dude?!?!"

I suppose I could see some asshole while Dr. Paul was off campaigning writing up a storm but wasn't ANYONE watching?

I think he could at least try instead of talking about it. I don't think most of them actually try. Bottom line is, I like his ideas. I believe that the majority of what he talks about is exactly what WILL fix a great deal of what's wrong.

I'm just so tired of all the double talk and the usual party line perps.

Edit: We already know what we get pretty much with each party and anyone that doesn't by now see what usually happens has blinders on IMO. It's time for someone different.

I dont know, I think perhaps at first Obama was trying, his hair sure got a lot greyer fast... lol
The system corrupts, even Sister Teresa wouldnt have made it thru unscathed.

But I do agree Ron Paul does have some ideas that sound good, but again, some others are too out there. I dont think he will come close to getting the chance tho, people will go with the devil they know, one of the two parties and then bitch about it for the four years that guy is screwing things up in the white house even more..

that link doesn't really have anything new; i read the article that the person quoted which says -
quote:

... and that his written comments about blacks were in the context of "current events and statistical reports of the time."

i dunno what current events would justify saying the kinds of things his newsletter says, unless you believe that no one was committing any crimes at all, EXCEPT black people, which is a fallacy. if that's his take on current events, then, again, sorry, i don't really want him anywhere near the White House, because that shows negative bias towards a class of people in his mind. how much more fucked up could it get? well if that's his attitude towards people like me, then it could get a hell of a lot more fucked up for us -- it's easy to speculate when you're at no apparent risk. i would rather not take the chance.

and i don't believe libertarians "can't" be racist. they're humans and humans are capable of anything. textbook definitions really have no bearing on the functioning of the human heart and mind.

What about the supposed comment about his lady friend? How could someone write "well publicized" articles like that and not think it was going to come back and bite them in the ass? He said he didn't say those things and was saddened by it.There are things about the whole debacle that seem to not add up.

I'm not sure his body of political work over the years supports claims like that.

He said he was saddened by the one comment about his friend and that he didn't say it..so I don't know. Either he's telling the truth and was irresponsible, which won't be the first time someone dropped the ball, either in office, or real life...or he's a blatant liar.

Hell I just don't know.

That's not entirely true..again Ron Paul.. He's pretty much stood his ground over his terms. Here's what he said in the article he linked.

Ron Paul is a doctor in OB/GYN by trade. He is something of a lone wolf in the Congress, earning the nickname "Dr. No" by his fellow Republicans. When the Republicans were looking to build the B-1 bomber, they desperately needed his vote, but despite enormous pressure on him to vote with them, he refused, thinking it to be a waste of money, and another weapon of an imperialist government. He voted against a medal for Mother Teresa, considering such a move to be unconstitutional. He challenged his colleagues to pony up $100 each to mint the medal for her, which they refused, naturally. He then said that it is easy to be generous with other people's money. He is strongly pro-life, and supports repealing federal laws regulating abortion, as he considers it to best be left a state issue.

I find that particular one kinda funny.

I don't believe the "can't" either Lilly that's why it was highlighted like that.

It is definitely possible that he is racist and it wouldn't be the first time someone in office went against what they supposedly represent.

there are all sorts of things about it that don't add up, you're quite right. i don't really believe he wrote them, but by allowing them to be printed, he has to respond to them, even if he allowed it by being negligent.
he has claimed that he wrote those before, and explained it away as irrelevant or as "in context" with current events of the time, as that same article even points out.
then he tells wolf blitzer that he's never heard any of it before wolf read it to him. =p

i don't really know what to believe, but i've never read a satisfactory response from him, so... there ya go.

He personally said that? I thought and aide was speaking for him. I've read too much I think!

He stated in the video that he didn't say any of that but mixed with all of the other stuff.. I'm with ya..Just not sure.

I suppose in that way he probably IS a "politician". Always changing their story.

lol well its one thing being a lone wolf Congressman and imo quite another being the President, having to perform and trading favours for what you need to get passed to meet those election promises... I dunno, not a job I would want!
