Errr, Peon, don't you know that all homeless people are now issued with a Blackberry... Sorry Hannah, there goes your theory of the homeless, a homeless person can't afford to buy a Blackberry, they can give them for free with a contract but you can't get a contract without a credit history and an address...

Iamsemisweet -> RE: roiting in croydon and penge (8/8/2011 5:53:08 PM)

Wow.  So, it is OK now to knock off a few police, or some innocent bystanders that get in the way  because the police started it?   That's what you believe?  All I can say is, and I quote:

"now that i think about it;  there's a term for people like you.
you, my dear woman, are a sociopathic serial killer. even jesus wouldn't save you if he could".

fr.
i support the aims of some of my friends who are trying to exploit the unrest to further their political goals. the people i am helping did not start the riots, they are simply making use of the opportunity they have been presented. and i support them in their efforts.

you say somebody might die, well somebody already did. the state, through their instrument of coercion, the police, started all this by murdering a man. they started the killing, the blood is on their hands.

i had no theory of homeless people. you are the one who keeps going on about the homeless people. i said angry people. are some of them homeless? yeah, i'm pretty fucking sure some are, but that doesn't change the fact that they are angry. nor does it invalidate their anger.

are the riots in the wrong place? yea, and my friends are trying to direct them more appropriately, but an angry mob is a difficult thing to control once the riot begins. that and the police are doing everything they can to contain the rioters to the neighbourhoods that will do the least to harm the elite.

Iamsemisweet -> RE: roiting in croydon and penge (8/8/2011 5:57:19 PM)

Well, the neighborhoods where there is the least harm to elites are apparently shopping malls, since that is what is getting hit the most.  Interesting political movement, since it is apparently directed against retailing.

So if ONE cop kills somebody, does that give me an excuse to turn round, burn other people's homes and loot shops and possibly let a few people die in the fire and then say "Oh it's all the fault of the police, it's on their hands" or would I be personally responsible for my actions?

HannahLynHeather -> RE: roiting in croydon and penge (8/8/2011 5:59:30 PM)

no, semi, its a case of trying to make use of unrest that exists. the riots happened, and me and my friends are trying to make use of them.

Can't see how that relates to what I said, Lady C. Sorry. In these sorts of situations, homeless people tend to flee, from what I know.

of course you would be. that's a daft fucking question.

Hannah thought the rioters were the homeless, I pointed out that the ones that were shown in footage wore clothes that were too expensive to be worn by homeless people (the usual branded tracksuits and hoodies from what I could see on TV)

hmmm.. yeah, homelessness does not mean they are stupid.. anyone with half a brain would flee

countrychick -> RE: roiting in croydon and penge (8/8/2011 6:08:51 PM)

I find it sad that there is a famine in Somalia, people still trying to recover from the disaster in Haiti, women around the world are treated as second class citizens and people in London, UK are rioting simply to cause destruction, mayhem and stealing large ticket items. I don't particularly care what the reason might be, whether it's HLH's anarchy motivation or because a young man was killed by police, its ridiculous. Makes me think people involved in such activities should be sent to live in places where they actually have to struggle to survive. I'm thinking the Antarctic or Siberia looks good.

Make use of them how?  To supplement your fall wardrobe?

Your position is ludicrous, even for you.  If I were a christian, I would say there is a very hot place in hell for you and your friends.

If this continues, there is going to be more blood on peoples' hands, and it isn't necessarily going to be the police's.

HannahLynHeather -> RE: roiting in croydon and penge (8/8/2011 6:17:06 PM)

the riots are a fact. as peon said, and even creepy admitted, there is a politico-economic basis for the anger behind the unrest.
it is the aim of some people to make use of the unrest to grab themselves some swag. unfortunate, but unavoidable, there will always be such people.

it is the aim of some other people to try harness this anger and use it more productively. those are the people i am working with.

like i said, you use the tools you're given, these riots, looters and all, are the tool we've been given. so we're going to try make use of them. you don't like it? no shit, you're not supposed to.

meh, let it burn down. sorry, but riots and anarchy are a sign of a healthy democratic society. every once in a while you have to remind the governing class that they only exist by virtue of our fucking apathy. i'm an anarchist, this sort of thing is my stock and trade.

vive la jacquerie.

Easy to say young lady and one can understand a basic angst in society. Too easy though when you're not victimized by it. Thus it has been though out all anarchy, govt. rarely suffers...the people do.

The recent middle-eastern uprisings are not the exception. Those are between two sides, govt. and dissenters even rebels. Neither they or revolution...seek anarchy.

One of my Geordie pals says there are rumblings elsewhere...I hope it comes to nothing.

Please stay safe, those of you in the line of fire.

PeonForHer -> RE: roiting in croydon and penge (8/8/2011 6:27:54 PM)

I think it'd be a really bad idea to 'characterise' these rioters this early on. The nature of these outbreaks is quite unlike anything we've seen in this country for a long time, perhaps ever. Everyone - the government, the cops, the 'social experts' - has been caught on the hop.

My view: the far left is as likely to be able to 'channel' these rioters in some way as the right is able to lecture them with moral finger-wagging into guilty silence - that is to say, slim to no chance.

One thing is very clear to me, though: one reason why people are rioting now is because they *can* riot - much, much more easily than they could even twenty years ago. Disgruntled people can mass and act alarmingly quickly nowadays.

don't bother, i think i have this fucker figured out. i said you didn't know why the people were in the streets. you seem to have interpreted "in the streets" to mean homeless or street people. i didn't use the phrase to imply that, i meant it literally, the rioters are in the streets.

if that isn't it, then by all means, show us where i the fuck i said it was homeless people doing the rioting.
