where the fuck do you get that idea? please quote where i said anything remotely like that.

Would be a bit much to copy all of them, but I was under the impression that you were talking about the people doing it being politically motivated and rebelling

quote:

you don't know who they are, how they live, what their hopes or dreams or disappointments are. you have no clue why they are doing what they are doing, or who is behind the violence or why.

And that a few of us pointed out before that it's unlikely that the homeless are involved in it, when I pointed out that the people who were shown in the looting seem to wear a lot of branded items that happen to be too expensive for homeless, you decided that I was judging people on the clothes they were, when I was just making an observation. So maybe we misunderstood each other, but I highly doubt that the looting is fueled by political motivation or a protest, looting is pure and unadulterated greed.

like i said, you use the tools you're given, these riots, looters and all, are the tool we've been given. so we're going to try make use of them.

This says it all. The lives of people in my community aren't tools for you to play with.

You are vile.

for fuck's sakes, where did i mention the homeless? i never mentioned the homeless. you did, nobody but you.

as for being politically motivated and rebelling, yes, some of them are.

HannahLynHeather -> RE: roiting in croydon and penge (8/8/2011 6:50:18 PM)

thanks creepy, i think your fucking great too. <smooch>

anyway, fuck it. i'm done with this debate. your opinion of my political activities matter to me as little as my opinion of yours does to you.

a few people may die as a result of mine, we're doing our best to avoid that. but hundreds upon hundreds of thousands are deliberately killed as a result of yours every year. my conscience is clear. how the fuck is yours?

Yes, when I did point that out you pointed out that we know nothing about the ones involved and who they are, which gave the impression that you were disagreeing with the take that it's not the homeless. Simple misunderstanding

Eh? What opinion of mine? Explain yourself you daft woman.

I can't say I agree with her stance or her actions or the aims and actions of her associates, but in all honesty, after proclaiming herself an anarchist and advocating the overthrow of all governments and societal controls for months, I have to admit I'd have been very disappointed in her if she didn't do and say what she is.

You mean they're all Bakuninist Chavs? Anarcho-syndicalist EastEnders?

"To the Barricades!"
"No, wait! That telly has my name on it! Yeah!"
"Oh, right. Fuck the Revolution, yeah? See any espresso machines, mate?"

Sometimes HLH/Suze-Cheri say some endearing things. At other times that Bernardette Dohrn thing gets to be a bit tiresome.

I recall way back when, a buddy/acquaintance of mine set off a bomb at VCU. At the time, I was all "Blows Against the Empire! Blood in the Streets!" But when he got out of jail a couple years later, I told him "Goddamn Billy! Just WHAT in the fuck were you thinking? If you wanted some thrills, we could have run through the chicks' locker room again!"

Looting and plundering will accomplish exactly fuck-all. It's going to take mass civil disobedience, like EVERYBODY not paying taxes, or their bills, or not showing up for work.

On the other hand, if the kids really need to huff some CS gas, who am I to stand in their way? Hail Eris!

Bloody hell, they must have watched Jordan (is she Jordan or is she Katie now? Can't keep up with her nor with her cosmetic surgery and guys, even her 2 talents are artificial) that they know espresso machines, thought they would order something from Starfucks with a long and complicated name because it sounds cool and they just nicked a purse in the tube and the market doesn't have any good fakes or bling. Have they been tangoed? Can't let the tan slip...

Hey! You leave us out of this. We want nothing to do with it.

Yeah!  Why are you including us? Some sort of "guilt by association" thing?

I guess, he's probably mad because we called his racism rant inane in our thread summary, so he is trying to lump us in with Hanners' weird politics.

Oh, that's who he is, I thought that drum kit looked familiar. Say. Who is Bernadette Dohrn?

I have no idea, let's find out.

Google-google-google

Huh, well look at that, I guess he means Bernardine Dohrn.

Iamsemisweet -> RE: roiting in croydon and penge (8/8/2011 10:20:31 PM)

Yes, if it weren't so disingenuous.  One minute she is going on about buying a home, the next she is spouting anarchist bullshit.  Since when was home ownership the dream of self proclaimed anarchist?  Unless maybe she is buying the place so she can fire bomb it as a political statement.

SuzeCheri -> RE: roiting in croydon and penge (8/8/2011 10:36:29 PM)

She's not buying the house, WE are. You are allowing your anger at being bested by her on a previous thread to spill over and colour your perceptions.

And what do her political beliefs have to do with wanting to have a nice place to live? Is she required to live in some roach-infested squatter commune in the basement of some abandoned warehouse to suit your moronic ideas of what an "Real" and "True" anarchist is?

The depth of ignorance that pops up in some of the people in this place is really very disturbing.

Iamsemisweet -> RE: roiting in croydon and penge (8/8/2011 11:15:49 PM)

Yawn.  Oh,  Heather's sycophants decided to weigh in.  How predictable.

Well, I hadn't intended to get involved in this mess, but since you effectively contested my remarks, I guess I will. Why not, I've got nothing better to do.

Anarchism is a loose grouping of political philosophies that have in common the desire to do away with coercive forms of government. The idea of having your own property, is in fact very much in line with some branches of anarchist thought, many forms of anarchism are simply more libertarian libertarians. You seem to be equating anarchism with some form of communism, or some "destroy everything" neo-luddite philosophy, neither of which it is.

So, please be so kind as to explain to me how wanting to own a home in any way renders somebody's proffession of an anarchistic philosophy disingenuous.

I await your answer with interest.

Agreed, thanks for saying what I was going to.

tweakabelle -> RE: roiting in croydon and penge (8/9/2011 12:00:44 AM)

These riots appear to have spread like wildfires. They seem too widespread and spontaneous to be organised centrally.

Thus far there has been little exploration of the causes of this social unrest. No one has mentioned similar events that shook Greece recently - are they similar phenomena? Are the recent Budget cuts by the Cameron Govt a factor?

At great distance, I get the impression that there are huge numbers of angry disaffected youths all over the UK who seem to feel that they have no stake in the system or the future. If this is the case, are things going to get worse?

Arpig -> RE: roiting in croydon and penge (8/9/2011 12:08:40 AM)

Yes. believe they will get worse, unfortunately. This has been brewing for rather a long time. The disconnect between a large segment of the country's youth and society as a whole has been swept under the rug for years.

I don't think they are centrally organized, but I tend to believe Hannah when she says there is a degree of coordination. As Peon pointed out, that sort of organizational ability via instant cellular communications is now available to all but the most destitute segments of society.

DeviantlyD -> RE: roiting in croydon and penge (8/9/2011 12:50:10 AM)

If anyone truly believes these riots are going to instigate any positive changes, they are simply deluding themselves.

I read the following commentary on the "Post Your Comments" section of a news web site. I felt it was spot on.

Having seen riots in my home town in '68, I can testify that it isn't amusing. 'Civil unrest', other than being a species of oxymoron, is no picnic. Watching neighbors go mad is disconcerting and disorienting. It is easy to begin to think of arming oneself, thus continuing a downward spiral. Violence is not a solution, but the problem is that to realize that requires thinking and that is exactly what the participants in these events don't do.

Arpig -> RE: roiting in croydon and penge (8/9/2011 12:53:41 AM)

Actually, I have a personal theory that those seeking political benefit from these riots are in fact looking for negative changes.
