Any other ideas?

I kinda like "titsuckers".  [;)]

Hmm, how about a little more of a Victorian flavor ... "teat sucklers"?  [:-]

Not that I am either "left" or "right" but mostly in the middle..but I think you kind of stole that term from after the civil war and the term "carpetbaggers" so I can't give  you credit for a great new word...ha ha..

Although this part of the definition of one at Wikipedia is interesting...

"The term carpetbaggers was also used to describe the Democrat political appointees who came South, arriving with their travel carpet bags. Southerners considered them ready to loot and plunder the defeated South.[1] "

Given that Johnson continues Lincoln's policies. No dem appointees under what was 4 consecutive repub presidents...until 1886.

Gotta go that far to think up and insult....just makes you look like a typical teabagger.

Hot Damn!

Thanks DYB!  My first opportunity to use it!

Not sure this qualifies ,given the spirit of the thread....but how about we go with something descriptive and true.......like socially conscious?

I'm game.

As long as the lefties will refer to "fiscal conservatives" instead of "tea baggers".

Which has about the same chance as a snowball lasting very long in hell, now doesn't it?  ...  [:-][;)]

I will give my answer before I read any other posts to prevent being swayed one way or another.

To me, the term 'Fleabagger' brings to mind people that go to Flea Markets.

I went to one in Denver about 20 years ago, with my parents when I was 15 or 16. It was interesting.

I do know that some people go frequently and I believe that there are folks that make their livelihood with stalls at Flea Markets.

So, I would have to say that it would not really bring to mind anything political. I would just picture a person that goes to Flea Markets or sells at one.

Thanks for the input, Aylee.

But, prior to the TEA party phenomena, what would the words "tea bag" have brought to mind?

"Fleabagger" sounds like the product of a flea-sized brain.

Wow... now that's just a lovely comment.  [&:]

Is that the best you can do?  Rather than join in with a bit of self-depreciating humor, you instead get defensive and come back with the verbal equivalent of an 8 year old's "you're a poopy head" comment?

Sheesh.

Let me get this straight.  They Tea Party is a third party.  They even called themselves "Teabaggers" until they realized what it meant.

Now, I do realize its a party made up predominantly of conservatives... many of whom are technically republicans.

But how is using the term "fleabaggers", as you explained in your op, a counter to "teabaggers"?

You are referring to two different groups.

Well, yes, I know.

That was kinda the point.

Fiscal conservatives called "teabaggers" by big government ideologues.  Big government ideologues called "fleabaggers" by fiscal conservatives.

The symmetry/"antonym-etry" is kinda pleasing to my word sense.

I always thought nutsuckers a good description of the right.

Revise and extended remarks:  The rabid right, not the moderate guys.

No disagreement.  Except we are talking about what to call the rabid left.

Then you are part of the rabid right?

Does not compute.

Just because someone calls me something, doesn't make it so.

The term "carpet baggers" did flit across my mind, but it had too much .... associated baggage .... [;)]

Yeah that's what I was thinking...if you need to write several paragraphs and cite wiki to explain your clever new insult it probably won't catch on.

Oh, I don't know.  Lots of words take some education and training.

And besides, if we learn anything useful during the discussion (and have a little fun along the way) then it's still not a loss.

Firm, do you mean "liberal" just doesn't cut any more? That term has been used as an insult to those on the far left for decades and most ran away from it. I did, but now I carry the term with pride because I am a liberal!

Most of the "left/right" words have been pretty mangled over the last few decades, and twisted to mean pretty much what someone means at the time that they say it.  I try to keep quotes around any of those words when I say them, for that reason.

For example, according to the historical definitions, I'm really a classical liberal (with a twist).  But today, such beliefs are generally called "conservative".

But, for terms like "tea bagger" and "flea bagger",  we'll all "know them when we see them."  [:D]

What do you think it (whatever "it" is) bothers me?  I don't think I've said anything "bothers" me.

I'm talking about verbal and philosophical symmetry.  It seems to be a niche that needs filling.  [;)]

Yanno, I think the term "Teabagger" and "TEA partier" is pretty handy for a lot of discussions for the left, and it just occurred to me that "us on the right" needed a similar short-hand term to describe a number of our political adversaries as well.

Then, it came to me ... "Fleabaggers" ....

Here is the Wikipedia definition of a Flea:

Fleas are external parasites, living by hematophagy off the blood of mammals (including bats and humans) and birds.

I think this is a good counter to the lefties "Teabaggers", and there is a fair amount of room for an expansion of "fleabagger's" meaning and nuances.

The link above takes you to a more detailed article on fleas, and I think there is plenty of material to relate it to a certain species of leftist politicians, don't you?

What about it, "righties"?  You think it's a useful term?  [8D][:)]

Problem is,your tea-party/republi`cons were the 1st to use the term "tea-bagger" to describe THEMSELVES.

Till they heard after a while, what the primary use of the term meant.

It`s a word meaning to lower one`s ballzack,like a tea-bag,into another`s mouth.

It originally was a term the gay male community used.Eventually,it became more mainstream as straight couples/groups enjoyed the act.

I think Rachel Maddow was the 1st MSM person to point out the embarassing reference.

It does have its points, I'll admit.  Just a little too "in your face" for most interactions, I feel, though.

The left does do a really good job in coming up with stuff, as you are aware.  They are just so much better (in overall comparison to their opponents) in coming up with a good meme or framing that fits their purpose.
