Problem is,your tea-party/republi`cons were the 1st to use the term "tea-bagger" to describe THEMSELVES.

Till they heard after a while, what the primary use of the term meant.

It`s a word meaning to lower one`s ballzack,like a tea-bag,into another`s mouth.

It originally was a term the gay male community used.Eventually,it became more mainstream as straight couples/groups enjoyed the act.

I think Rachel Maddow was the 1st MSM person to point out the embarassing reference.

Yeah, I think everyone is aware of that now, Owner.  [:(]

Doesn't stop anyone from using a riff on that attack phase to turn it back in a symmetrical manner, though does it?

I will give my answer before I read any other posts to prevent being swayed one way or another.

To me, the term 'Fleabagger' brings to mind people that go to Flea Markets.

I went to one in Denver about 20 years ago, with my parents when I was 15 or 16. It was interesting.

I do know that some people go frequently and I believe that there are folks that make their livelihood with stalls at Flea Markets.

So, I would have to say that it would not really bring to mind anything political. I would just picture a person that goes to Flea Markets or sells at one.

Thanks for the input, Aylee.

But, prior to the TEA party phenomena, what would the words "tea bag" have brought to mind?

Firm

Something I use to make a cup/pot of tea with. I am rather boring that way.

"Fleabagger" sounds like the product of a flea-sized brain.

Couldn't you think of an insult that was more original, tweak?

My remark is not an insult, it's not even a personal comment - it's a comment on the sound of the word "fleabagger" as is obvious from a normal everyday reading of the remark. Reading anything further into my remark is a product of the mind that so reads it.

As it appears that both you and your dear wife wrongly interpret such comments as personal insults, one could be forgiven for wondering whether there's something about the notion of "fleabagger' that makes you both feel uncomfortable. I'm not going to waste my time speculating about precisely what that might be.

This is the second time that you have mistakenly accused me of making personal attacks on you in the past week or so. It's becoming dreary and tedious. Please try to find out what a personal attack actually is if you are intent on throwing the charge about willy-nilly. Learning what a personal attack is will certainly help you to avoid looking foolish in the future. I suspect some people will be tempted to view that as progress.

Care to step up to the plate and launch the new 'progressive' Firm? [:D]

Hot Damn!

Thanks DYB!  My first opportunity to use it!

"You damn fleabagger!"  [:D]

Brown Bagger (no thanks, Anaxagoras) [:)]

Ah well... I thought the idea was a thing of beauty aside from the poo theme! [:D] After all "3. brown bagger Someone drinking liquor from a bottle in a brown paper bag. Usually in the street in the unposh parts of town." is the opposite of the moneyed conservative cliche but of course as with everything: YMMV! [:)]

Better. Still a little weak, but shows promise.

I gotta admit, Hannah, you often show originality, the ability to think and humor, even if I occasionally disagree with you on some specific issue.

Your input is always welcome, in other words.

Yeah that's what I was thinking...if you need to write several paragraphs and cite wiki to explain your clever new insult it probably won't catch on.

Oh, I don't know.  Lots of words take some education and training.

And besides, if we learn anything useful during the discussion (and have a little fun along the way) then it's still not a loss.

Astute observation, my friend.

That was indeed one of the goals of the thread.

I'm still trying to figure out whether they would get more campaign money from.

Hartz or Orkin.

Since "TEA" means "Taxed Enough Already", I was thinking about giving the letters of "FLEA" a meaning.

Anyone want to help?

Examples:

F.L.E.A : Forever Loves Everything Administered.
F.L.E.A:  Fervent Legislator of Economic Activity
F.L.E.A:  Following Lenin Everywhere Always
F.L.E.A:  Frequently Leaves Everyone Alienated
F.L.E.A:  ?
