I also love them in a salad with some salsa instead of any dressing.

I make a black bean dish similar to what you described but I add chili powder and cumin. It's very yummy!

Easy recipe: Throw a chicken in a crick pot. Add a can of black beans. Add salsa (I've added a jar of mango salsa fir ease even though I prefer my own home made). Set to low. Come back for dinner and enjoy

Salsa is a great substitute for salad dressing and for most sauces.

It took some convincing to get the Mister and the girl-child to try them, but now they like them too - yay.

Trader Joes has packages of "Tuna in green curry sauce" and "Tuna in red panag curry sauce" and i will put that on top a a huge salad, the curry sauce acts as a dressing and i save about half of the sauce for the next salad. Their is nothing on the ingredient list that i can not pronouce or made from chemicals and its not a lot of calories. I prefer to put it over salad than rice since i get too many carbs right now anyway.. but, one shouldnt eat too much tuna...

I am really happy that Trader Joes have a store here in WA state as well as where i lived in CA...
Wish there was a Mothers Market or Whole Foods here tho..

There is a store near where I live that specializes in these amazing flavored olive oils and balsamic vinegars. My favorite is lime infused olive oil mixed with coconut flavored balsamic as a salad dressing. It is absolutely delicious, and unlike the flaored balsaics I ws buying before, it is not all loaded up with sugar or corn syrup. They also carry a cinnamon pear balsamic that I bake apples in.

I've got some extra slices. Perhaps you'd like a piece? Just this one time?

cinnamon pear balsamic? woah... that sounds interesting...

i prefer refried black beans to regular ones, too -- i can usually find them without lard pretty easily, and they still have really great flavor. if i do them myself, then i can make them however i want, but as i haven't replaced my masher, canned ones work fine for me. haha

re: Trader Joe's -- i really love that store. things don't cost more than my regular grocery store, but it seems like whatever i get there lasts almost twice as long, and the quality of food is great. we have a Whole Foods here, but it's expensive compared to Trader Joe's, so i don't go very often.
i'm so glad they opened a TJ's here; i'd always heard about how awesome they were.

Hell yes!  So much for will power.  I am powerless over carbs, especially when they are in the form of cake.

Lol.

I'll lose weight soon enough..well if I don't die of a heart attack first but if that does happen, at least I enjoyed myself.

I watched my Mom diet her whole life (She was a plump little Cherokee girl) and that seem to consume her at times. Many forms of suffering. It always hurt me to see her go through that. I can't say it hasn't shaped her in other ways though. She's a really good woman.

I'll eat in moderation but I'm gonna eat the good stuff, you can bet your ass on that. I'll suffer in other ways, I'm sure. Life is funny that way.

I bought some pomegrante balsamic vinegar that i have not tried yet.. but that cinnamon one with baked apples sounds fantastic!

The thing i love about Whole foods and Mothers Market (less expensive) is their food bar! That is really mostly what i go there for..

I love looking at all the different food but it requires a lot of control, very easy to fill those containers with too much.. its a good way to try new food ideas to see if you like them or not.. and if i like them then i run home and search for recipes!..

One of the things I love about where I just moved to....there's a Whole Foods. I like that I can grab something quick and healthy and eat it while I'm walking. I love their little corn and cilantro fritters in the vegan deli aisle.

corn and cilantro fritters? woah... i'll have to check and see if our store has those.

i don't know if i ever even got to the food bar; i mostly just go for specific things when i'm passing by... i'll have to take a wander and explore it a bit more.

I'm really enjoying the turn this thread has taken. I wonder if the OP has been back to see where it went. LOL

I love fresh vegetables, but fruit, not so much. Except for berries & tropicals. Being Norwegian, I didn't grow up eating a lot of sweet stuff, so I don't really like it much now. When we bake it's more about the butter & flour with just enough sugar to make it yummy. I've made sugar-free apple pies & when I make a berry pie I put in about 1/3-1/2 the sugar called for. It's amazing how much more flavor there is without the sugar!

I'm not a fan of black beans or lima beans etc.... I love three bean salad, but I usually just make it with wax beans and green beans. Chickpeas aren't so bad, but I like hummus a lot better than eating the chickpeas whole.
