Why is it so hard for Obama to balance the budget? Becuase the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the Bush tax cuts have created a structural deficit that simpy cannot be done away with. The budget could cease funding the entire non military discretionary budget and we would still have a deficit.

The debt is the size it is because Reagan rammed through nonsensical tax cuts at the precise time when rational administration in the past raised revenues to pay down debt from wars and recessions.

In short the correct assertion when examining the deficit and debt issues is that Neo Conservatives suck.

Status: offline 		Yes, because lockedaway has 'clearly' shown in the past that he is absolutely 'neutral' on politics in the United States. He has 'never' bashed one party in favor of another. Nor has he called the elected officals names like a 12 year old child with bad interpersonal skills. He has always been 'generous' in displaying the good and wonderful outlooks of folks from both major political parties. Likewise, when interacting with other posters, particularly the ones that have disagreed with his ideas, has always been 'patient', 'nice', 'considerate' and very 'humble'. When 'evidence' and 'facts' have come to his attention that he originally reported as incorrect or just misleading, he as 'always' apologized and vowed to 'do better in the future'. In all, lockedaway is a 'true' American; an 'examplar' of our finest ideals and thoughts on politics. Without someone like lockedaway, we would be 'truly' lost.

Isn't it 'noble' of him to create this 'wonderful' thread for all of us? (que Leave it to Beaver era-like music...)

The right war was the one in afghanistan. That doesn't change the fact that it costs money. The subject under discussion was the fderal deficit and debt.

Your blathering about amount of increase is either naive or simply deceitful. The correct comparison is budget as percent of GDP and by that comparison the Obama administration's spending is not particularly note worthy.

As to your opinions on various programs, I think I'll listen to economists who at least occasionally get something right not some loud mouth on a forum who has yet to be right on anything.

As a fiscal matter, it makes no difference about why and what for wars from Wash. ALL...I said ALL wars are for a fucking profit and should damn well...last forever.

The video calls for severe austerity program. Considering the structure of the US economy it would be wrong approach. The US is corrupt and structurally flawed state. Austerity program would support the existing structure, and it would prolong it. It would not save the US economy from inevitable collapse because the debt can not be paid in practice. Part of the debt needs to be eliminated through partial bankruptcy. The administration should think of how to restructure the economy and how to create a "controlled burn" to make the toxic debt load disappear.

Ironically enough, Nixon was the most liberal repub president with many of his policies I say since WWII. Created the EPA, reformed and in fact began AFDC as we knew it pre-Clinton reform (Aid to Families with Dependent children) and many other policies.

BUT, Nixon got himself in trouble with the cover-up of the Watergate break-in...pure and simple. It's as if all of his angst and cynicism all came out at once what with white house cash, the 'Plumbers' and then using agencies to target people. He even drew up and got a few house repubs to begin pushing for a bill to amend the constitution to allow him to remain for unlimited terms...at least more then two.

Don't really know what is the difference with this president assuming that all of this posting isn't because he's black, when as of Aug, 1983 at this point in Reagan's first term...it was much worse economically than it is now.

Go look it up ...much worse. Still, people on both sides refrained from coming close to calling it Reagan's...'failed administration.'
