Maybe that's the wave of the future. Don't like your country's politics, just go build your own.

I tink as soon as there is anything of value at these beyond the reach of laws islands then enterprising entrepenuers wil acquire these islands in an extremely hostile manner.

Impossible, unless you mean by force.

A political/economic biodome....Pauly Shore is writing the screenplay already. I hope they have good fishing skills or can trade with salt like the old days...otherwise their lack of natural resources will render it infeasible.

Not if they can trade information. Such as better medical devices, engineering, and IT.

Its possible, but unlikely, because their isolation will even stunt any R&D progress.

i would just wonder, where are people going to work? they don't have any resources, you can't farm. what kind of jobs are going to be available on something like that?
it's just going to be a colony for people with office jobs? what kind of offices? =p they'll have to trade for/import everything.

One of my many ideas as a budding entrepreneur was a floating city built out of old ships/oil rigs..One could fish, there would be tourism, plenty of ways to grow food that doesn't require dirt..true they are limited but not to a point that things can't be overcome.

Cool idea.

that's true; i guess they can do hydroponics, which can be pretty well-run, optimal systems.

Will they have offshore windmill farms and other hippy green innovations to power these islands?

A link to one donation showed another concept with a windmill attached.

They've been talking about this for years and it makes sense for the ever expanding population..who knows..maybe one day we'll move everyone offshore and the land will be strictly for farming and raising livestock.
