If you had to spend the rest of your life only doing your fetish, or being able to have sex. But you could not do both...which would you pick.

hangemhigh1953 -> RE: Sex vs Fetish (8/16/2011 6:02:36 PM)

I'm a little confused by the wording of your question, but to me it sounds like "Would you rather live in constant fantasy or be forced to only have vanilla sex forever"... I'd choose vanilla sex because constant fantasy is silly, and I have other interests outside of kink...

littlewonder -> RE: Sex vs Fetish (8/16/2011 6:09:12 PM)

I don't have any fetishes and I don't see what I do to be all that particularly kinky so I guess I'll have to choose sex since I don't put any other kind of label on my sexual proclivities..it's simply sex with the man I love.

Andryanna -> RE: Sex vs Fetish (8/16/2011 6:15:18 PM)

I'm pretty sure my fetishes involve sex so I don't think it would work out for me all that well

honestly I haven't had sex for quite some time, I'm talking cobwebs in my belfry, but since my fetishes involve sex, I'd be in a conundrum (sic?).

kallisto -> RE: Sex vs Fetish (8/16/2011 6:18:15 PM)

I don't think I have any fetishes so I'll take the sex [:)]

domiguy -> RE: Sex vs Fetish (8/16/2011 6:20:29 PM)

fetishes are usually developed at an early age. foot fetish for example. I find many to be sorta creepy.

I'll take the sex and fuck the fetish.

Andryanna -> RE: Sex vs Fetish (8/16/2011 6:21:58 PM)

I've always found sex boring, unless it involved extra carricular things.

If I can't have that, I'll masturbate.

domiguy -> RE: Sex vs Fetish (8/16/2011 6:24:10 PM)

doesn't mean that your extracurricular activities are a fetish.

Reminds me of the "masturbation in strange/public places" fetish

My understanding of the word as usually used means
(c : an object or bodily part whose real or fantasied presence is psychologically necessary for sexual gratification and that is an object of fixation to the extent that it may interfere with complete sexual expression) I am not sure that anyone with a fetish could separate them at all.

I have masturbated in strange obscure places, but I wouldn't count it as a fetish.

You may be correct, I've always assumed that being tied up, beaten, among other things, were fetishes.
I may not understand them completely.

I'm not sure.

Is there a difference between a preference of activities and a fetish?

Even so. All the BDSM stuff I have been involved in wasn't physically sexual...

StrongSpirit -> RE: Sex vs Fetish (8/16/2011 7:06:39 PM)

Per the AMA's definition, a fetish is something you need to get your rocks off. What we do is kinky, not always a fetish. Kink is just something you like, not need.

Sex is itself a fetish for most creatures (animals as well as people).

Anyone with a true fetish, as per the definition, would take the fetish, not the sex. If you are just kinky as opposed to fetish then you take sex over the kink.

0ldhen -> RE: Sex vs Fetish (8/16/2011 7:07:03 PM)

My fetish is motorcycles so......

Hmm.......Harleys or sex......Harleys or sex.......?

Harleys of course.....see...I always know where it is, if it breaks down I know it is my fault and I know exactly how to fix it, I only have to feed it if I take it out, it is alway ready whenever I am, it can ride for more than an hour, it has a built in vibrator, and my friends would never ride it without my permission.

I've always tried to analyze the differences and basically gave up.
I have sexual actitivies that I prefer. I also have activities that I prefer that are non-sexual.
As to where those activities/fetishes or needs/wants intersect with BDSM, D/s or anything else for that matter eludes me.
I kind of try to go with the flow and do what I feel makes me complacent.
Even then I still can't sufficiently answer the original question, unless I use my own theories.

slaveluci -> RE: Sex vs Fetish (8/16/2011 7:49:40 PM)

I'm reading your question as "Do you prefer your kink or sex?" Well, I obviously prefer kinky sex, but if I had to do one without the other, I'd prefer sex with no kink to kink with no sex. Much prefer because kink with no sex is unthinkable for me[;)]

This is what I read and how I feel and it is quite different: Fetish: Psychology, any object or non-genital (or genital) part of the body that causes a habitual erotic response or fixation. So the are forever intertwined.

Sex w/o kink...yes. Kink w/o sex...no.
