I'm honestly not just posting this to moan. And I also apologise if this is in the wrong forum. Seemed like the best place for it.

I recently got a bit of a telling off by a collarme admin, and rightly so, for posting a few blogs to point out the fact that a few members of the site seemed to be attempting to pass themselves off as other people by using photos which were not theirs. Usually this meant they were using photos of models or other celebrities who were not well known to the general public. My blogs were deleted, and then I had a message asking me not to draw negative attention to other users.

Which is all well and good. I don't want to break any of the site's rules.

But is this really a good sign? What does it say about a site who cracks down on people who identify fakes to try and save other people from disappointment or potentially being ripped off through... sigh... "tribute", but apparently does nothing to remove the offending profiles unless a certain number of people report them?

I have my own theories as to why this might be the case, but they're a bit controversial so in the interests of trying not to annoy the admin people further, I'll just keep them to myself.

As I said, I'm not having a moan. And really don't want to cause any grief for anyone. Just wanted to see the opinions of my fellow site users.

The reason why blacklisting isn't allowed should be apparent.

First, though, it should be patently obvious to the most naive person that if Brad Pitt was on this site, he wouldn't use his own picture. And that anyone using a celebrity's photo isn't really them. Perhaps they identify as a tall blond of middle age in fairly decent shape. Maybe they just wish they were.

Beyond that, if you claimed I was a fake, because we had a break up, then I would be unfairly vilified. As would you if I then put your name on a list of fakes in return.

One person's "fake" is another person's "ideal".

Scammers are a different story, and the site has a 'report' button to identify someone you believe to be a scammer. Nothing more is needed. Admin has to assume that as we're all adults interwebz users, we have at least a basic grasp of scamming. That's why the message page tells us over and over again not to send money to anyone for any reason.

There are 'tribute dommes' on this site who are catering to the kinks of those (mostly) guys who want to give money to what they believe is a 'hot domme'. Who are we to say that their kink is wrong? Doesn't make the profile a fake.

I rather like it when I see people "outing" fakes in their profiles/journals. It tells me a lot about the writer. It also tells me to avoid them and find someone who is more interested in the positives in real life rather than the glaringly obvious negatives of online life.

I do see your point. It makes sense. I guess I'll just have to learn to deal with it and accept that it's an annoying reality of this site... Or just leave.

KEEP OUTING THE FAKES!!!  You are doing a public service!  Look...there are men posing as women, wasting your time.  There are women posing as women other than who they are (personal experience talking here....50 year old woman posing as 30 year old woman looking for a sub for a LTR), there are people posing as whatever to lure the unsuspecting, forlorn and desperate to pay to PayPal or log onto NightFlirt or whatever.  The fact of the matter is that the fakes are either using up your time or attempting to scam or just trying to bump up the population of the site for obvious reasons.  All of it, operates against your interests.  What did Ben Franklin say about Time?

Dost thou value life?
Then do not waste time
for that is the stuff of which life is made.

how do you know they're fakes? Do you have intimate knowledge of these people? Do you know them in person? Are they your pics they have posted or someone you know? Did you find their pics elsewhere online?

You see....you can say anyone is fake..doesn't necessarily make it true unless you have solid proof.

For all I know you're a bored housewife who likes to waste time before her husband gets home and catches her.

I do think picture thievery is wrong--if you see a stolen pic, report itS. Those reported pics get looked at!

Otherwise, just ignore what doesn't really get in your way.

You know, OP, I've seen your blogs when they show up in the public timeline.  From some of the overblown claims you've made, I would peg you as a fake.  So...how do you know any of the people you've "outted" are fake?

Considering OP even mentioned in her post that it was people using pics found on the internet, it seems odd how some of the replies wonder how the OP could know they are fake. Reading comprehension is your friend...

how does she know they are pics from others on the net? Did she provide links to those sites for her proof? If all she did was say "This person is a fake and their pics are from someone on the net" why would anyone bother taking her seriously? Provide links and proof. Otherwise she's really no better than them.

There are some links you can use to see where a pic comes from...and honestly, I have seen photos of models with the photog watermark right on them!

Me, I am not the internet police. I get way more agitated on Fet, where I have seen FRIENDS pics stolen.

It's not hard to use google image search. tineye is another good one. Then there is just recognition. It seems they go after the most popular centerfolds and models so it's not hard to go, "Oh... yea, fake."

from the very 1st thread in the very first forum on the board.
quote:

This issue comes up so often in posts by new members that we felt it necessary to make a special post about this one issue.  To be sure, there are all kinds of people in the world and, given that we (like other public websites) don't have the ability to dictate who joins our website, you will meet all kinds of people here; some very nice (like yourself), some not so much.   It is perhaps for this reason that new users are wont to post about their bad experiences with this or that person or even come up with the very original idea of making a list of all the "bad" users on the site.  As has been recounted countless times, the fundamental flaw with this idea is not that it is ill intended, it is that there is not, nor can there be, any fact checking of such claims.

If you still believe that blacklists are a good idea then consider the following thought experiment.  Suppose that someone made up a malicious and horrible lie about you and posted it to a blacklist on the forum.  Would you want us to take it down after you informed us of your innocence or would you be fine with us leaving it up despite your most impassioned pleas that the facts alleged about you were false?  It is a pretty safe bet that you would want those false claims removed in a hurry.  Now let us suppose that true claims are posted about a real jerk attesting to what a jerk he is.  Further suppose that this jerk approaches us with the same passion you did, demanding that the true assertions about him are false and must be remove immediately.  Both you and the other user come to us claiming passionately to be innocent but which one are we to believe?  When you know the answer to that question, you will know why blacklists are not permitted.

you are 100% correct. reading comprehension is our friend, and so is reading the faq.

then all she has to do is contact support and provide links....easypeasy. Most likely she did not do that. Don't expect support to do your work for you.

I have found people posting under a variety of different names....all the same person....all with different PayPal accounts.  Some of them were put into my journal.

I have personal knowledge of fakes like the woman that I mentioned in my thread.  Yes, there are fakes on this site and plenty of them.  A woman that is making a profile, allegedly looking for a relationship with a Dom or a sub but knowing in her heart that she will never meet ANYONE that contacts her because she is married and not looking to cheat is a fake.  That isn't hard to understand, is it?  And it is a bad thing to reveal people who are allegedly looking for something but their actual intent is different?

P.S.---I'm not singling out women, which this reply might lead someone to believe.  My stance on this subject is set forth clearly in my first reply.

Even if you DO prove that the pic is a fake, provide a link to it's location on the net an dpost both in your journal.. you still get rapped knuckles.

Truth is CM WANT these fake profiles. so that it looks like it is full of hot young subbies to bring in the males.

Never said I and the OP had the same experience. That's not reading comprehension; that's my opinion. I've seen quite a few around here in the past few months that had a mix of pics, some possibly there own, but some also of models I've seen across the web.
