Oh oh. Tazzy, you bad girl! You didn't obey the Uber-Dom. How dare you!

Oh and speaking of puss filled slugs. Hi Icky!

<You'll note I said "filled", not "infested", that's because "infested" is the wrong word to use in this context. And here I thought you'd made it past grade 4, silly me.>

This one didnt roll... it shook.

The rolling ones are actually kind of fun.  The shaking/jolting ones (like the Cali one in 89) are very scary!

It's not that the cell phones are "down" here, it's that they've overloaded with too many people trying to talk to each other all at the same time. Rush hour, which isn't a picnic on a good day here, is going to be a major clusterfuck.

I felt it at my office, about 78 miles from the epicenter. It felt like our whole building was going to explode. We ran outside to the street. I very much did not like this. I wanted to go home earlier because I was tired. Now I just want to go home because... :(

Sends kisses and thinks you should go home and relax.

CNN is reporting various structural damages but no injuries as of yet. Let's hope it stays that way.

Cell service being difficult is rather typical as families try to contact loved ones to be sure they're ok, or to talk about it.

Various buildings and bridges were closed, not sure if they're back open yet. They had to be evaluated for safety. Things aren't built here for this, who knows what the after effects will be. Ceiling tiles fell down at Reagan National Airport, they evacuated the Capitol and the Pentagon. This was serious.

Amygdalin -> RE: Earthquake near DC (8/23/2011 12:31:44 PM)

I'm on the eastern shore about an hour from Ocean City. The entire house was shaking for a good 20 seconds. I was sitting back in my computer chair and nearly toppled over.

My front yard has a bit of a hump that stretches from one end to the other now. The ground is a bit soft. Looks like a giant mole went through it. Never been in an earthquake before. Pretty wild stuff.

No doubt.  A 5.9 should always be taken seriously, particularly in an area that's not equipped for it.  They're taken seriously in CA and we are equipped for it!

I stayed up till 2 and must have been snoozing pretty good (Much like some of the idiots round here).. Didn't feel a thing.

5.9 here in Baltimore. I was out shopping at the time and stuff was flying off the shelves. Management sent us all outside. I thought maybe a factory nearby had exploded. That happened in Allentown, PA about 12 years ago when I lived there and it felt very similar. I still can't get through to my daughter, sisters or Master but we were all able to get texts through so everyone seems to be ok. I just have a few things broken that fell off shelves.

windchymes -> RE: Earthquake near DC (8/23/2011 12:49:40 PM)

I found my damage......bottle of malt vinegar in the fridge fell over, and apparently the cap was loose.....phew! lol

littlewonder -> RE: Earthquake near DC (8/23/2011 12:52:15 PM)

I'm still a little upset that a little statue of a woman holding flowers that my daughter bought me for Mother's Day a few years ago fell off the bookcase and broke. :(

I don't know if it was from the earthquake though or from my landlord who apparently was in my apartment while I wasn't home. Came home to find a carbon monoxide detector installed. Wonder if he started getting worried after the earthquake lol.

windchymes -> RE: Earthquake near DC (8/23/2011 12:55:53 PM)

Just heard on the news, there was an aftershock of 2.8 magnitude at the epicenter.

Last I checked, there is only one man I have to obey... and I dont think anyone wants him chiming in on this situation.
