This Sunday will mark the 48th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech. It was also to have been the day of dedication for his memorial at Washington D.C.'s National Mall, but with Hurricane Irene approaching, the dedication has been postponed.

I've never heard Dr. King's entire speech, but of the parts I have heard, I can't help feel emotional. You can hear the passion and sincerity in his voice and it makes you want to believe in his dream as much as he did. I don't think his dream has been fully realized yet, but it's much closer than it has been and certainly more so than during his time.

I think everyone should read the text of that speech and try to internalize it no matter what color your skin.

This is sad.  I saw this thread this morning, as I drank my coffee, and knew there was no way I could give it the sort of 'feet up on the desk' reflection it deserved.  To come home and find it languishing with a handful of replies makes me wonder if Termy might not be more right with his opinion on the state on the forums than I choose to go along with.  I suppose that may reframe how I reply.

My stepfather had this speech on a record album, and I heard it a number of times, far before I was able to read the text. ...they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.  Words to live by.  Words to raise your kids on.  Words that remain a dream.

I grew up on the notion that racism meant you treat people differently, because of the color of their skin, and that racism was a very bad thing.  I live in a world where the charges of racism are too often shrieked when we DON'T treat people differently for that cause, and where I have had the handcuffs taken off and walked away from situations where a black guy wouldn't have been out of the justice system's custody for five years. 

They are mesmerizing words, haunting words, delivered by a master or oratory, and friends and neighbors, we ain't there yet.


And then I'll just go ahead and be the one to point out that the memorial was made in China.

You did it. I don't care who I piss off now and I am not going to try to, but it may happen. Sorry if it does.

MLK JR was a communist, and supported by same, but really I have no problem with that. Logically any segment of the population that has been taken for granted by another segment would welcome socialistic or even commumistic views. White groups hold this against him, but they do not realize his perception of the situation, which was accurate. There was still bigotry in every facet of society, mostly put forth by the powers that be, because it was they who really benefitted by it. In fact the founders of this country held slaves.

But, back to a reality more "today". People are coming together, and the powers that be don't really like it because there is not enough to distract people from what they steal from us. So they set up things, in the media, wherever, to attract people's attention and foster that inner bigotry that civilized people supress. That which is inside, and never let out. They feed that with their stories and shit, and make sure that we never REALLY unite, because if we did they would be in heaps of shit.

Whatever race you are, if you haven't seen this you are either not watching or not very observant.  And now it is time for the glossary.

Prejudice : A LEARNED set of responses based on previous responses or accounts thereof based on trusted sources. That is all.

Racism : Pride in one's race, their accomplishments and the desire to achieve, as those before have.

Bigotry : Believing that one is superior to another based on race alone, or possibly socio-economic status.

Class : True class is to be right with people, to treat them right and see what they are made of. Fake class, often instilled by money means to only hang around with people who have enough money or social status. But that is your point of view.

Really, class means a whole different thing.

Hey, people used to bitch about my looooooooooong posts.

Now, it is time. I am a racist. I have no problem with skin color, so what ? But I am a Polak, and if my daughter came home with a Ukrainian or a Romainian I would kick her fucking ass. There are Mexicans and Spaniards with blue eyes and blonde hair, same shit for them. I want for her blood that will improve us.

In all other matters race does not mean shit, it is a person's merit that matters, and that is all. But you must keep the family, ESPECIALLY the daughters away from the business to prevent employees from becoming enamoured with them. This can cause severe problems.

Eugenics, the Jews do not admit that they practice this but they do. Maybe they don't even know it. But I do. I will not just fuck any cunt that comes along like a N______. I WILL NOT DO IT ! I suppose I should have edited my post because after submitting it, I did listen to Dr. King's speech in its entirety. I had to smile at the beginning of it, because his choice of words and tone were reminiscent of a different era. But as his speech progressed and his voice became more impassioned, the spirit of his words transcended time. I know the examples he cites are American in nature, but they really do apply beyond the boundaries of the USA. I'm not an American, but I'm inspired by his words and his desire to for peace without violence. What a wonderful set of beliefs he held. And even though his life ended far too early, his words and ideals are the awe-inspiring legacy he has left for all.

Can you accept that I am not exactly what those opinions seem to portray, that I am more than that even though that is part of me ? Or must I ignore that part of myself to satisfy people like you ?

Take your pick. I AM racist. Not skincolor racist, a much more advanced racist than that. I AM prejudiced, not skincolor prejudiced but definitely prejudiced on other factors, details on request. Bigoted ? I am only bigoted against poeople who have done me wrong, so no matter what you are, if you haven't you are cool, if you have, you better stay the fuck away from me. And I warn you all now, you DO NOT all look the same to me.

I find it sad to realize that people who regularly participate in the Politics and Religion thread probably prefer to respond to threads that are generally negative, where they can engage in dissenting dialogue with others, rather than post to a thread that presents a positive subject matter.

Unfortunately, that speech is probably and yes it took a couple years...what got him killed. James Earl Ray was just yet another 'troubled loner.'

Those 'troubled loners' sure do come in handy when you really need them.
