Some people would need to pay people to be their friends! [:D][:D]

I cannot believe this needs to be explained. Reducing fundamental human emotions, feelings, desires to commodities, devalues our indivdual and common humanity. That this is not obvious is a testament to the amazing hegemony created by market dogmatists. I suppose if you are the type of person who does not see this, you would also find nothing strange with paying someone to be your friend (I met even many of you would find that concept odd).

Someone asked what is wrong with whoring and I answered. The original post also seems to refer to pros as it talked about money (but it was a bit muddled)

I don't have crayons to break it down for you so I'll just use a quick reference for you to understand the idiocy of your statements so far.

The only difference between an adult film star and a prostitute is a camera. We outlaw prostitution but not pornography, so please. Dig yourself out of this conundrum.

????? If you consider actual contact between humans and watching an image of such to basically be the same thing, you have beautifully illustrated what is wrong with contemporary culture. Wonderful job.

I don't believe watching the film is being referred to. I believe the reference is to the actual making of the film. Sexual relations are happening, whether behind a bedroom door or in front of a camera. Money is being paid to at least one of the parties taking part. Yet, porn is okay and prostitution is not?

These are not my thoughts, necessarily, but this is what I believe Endivius was getting at.

I'm pretty sure I read in revalations that Olives are the fruit of the god's, or I had a really messed up dream. Either way olives are sacred.

Sorry, but zephyr has kindly offered one for NSA homocide, besides I need my coppers to pay a medicine man to help with a personal problem. Zombie parts are so expensive these days....

That was really uncalled for.  I think most folks know that this is not really an atypical point of view in the world.  It's not popular on here, but I don't think it's terribly far from what people would consider the norm in many societies.  Frankly, while I don't think prostitution needs to be outlawed, certainly the way it is handled in all but a very few cases is dehumanizing and devaluing.  I don't think it HAS to be (which is why I have no problem with it as a concept and if handled well).

The paying people to be your friend part is a bit over the top, but a number of people have attacked him (like yourself) rather than arguing the point.  Let's face it, there are PLENTY of people who pay others to be their friend - heck take a look at my post on the first page and it pretty much says that very thing.  Lots of people pay in other ways besides cash, too although that may be a bigger argument than the one here and may be going a bit too far astray.  [;)]

Somehow, I don't think your opinion of what is, and is not acceptable matters.

As to how you feel about prostitution

That's how you might see it personally, that doesn't mean everyone else sees it that way, and i'm sure if it was so dehumanizing it wouldn't be so widespread.

sunshinemiss -> RE: Finding Aggravated Dommes Funny (9/2/2011 5:46:01 AM)

Of course it's  my personal opinion.  That's what we do - post our personal opinions - some of us back that up with statistics as well, but for me for this one.  I"m clear about what is and isn't acceptable... to me.

Of course it's dehumanizing the way it's handled these days in most of the world.  Of course it is.  Men don't go looking for a particular woman - gs - they look for any woman that they can do x, y, or z to.  You're seriously arguing with me when I'm saying I think that prostitution ought to be legal?  Well, ok.

In your reality it's ok to be insenstive to someone who's suffering in real life, but attack them in a virtual environment for having an opinion and that's just tacky. Got it.

It's not an argument at all. Your beliefs have simply warped you in such a way, that no amount of reason or logic will help you accept your hipocrisy on this issue.

That's a baffling comment to me, Endivius.  Sociologists have been talking about the 'commodification' of everything in society, including human relationships, since Marx.  And women here have been arguing Sunny's point - that "Men don't go looking for a particular woman - gs - they look for any woman that they can do x, y, or z to" since this website started.

masternoname -> RE: Finding Aggravated Dommes Funny (9/2/2011 9:05:19 AM)

And I get amused by those who feel the need to start thread after thread pissing and moaning about something that doesn't really concern them. If you are not interested in financial dommes, then ignore them. I am sure they won't care.

Now run along and dominant something, you little dominate, you.

I can't say that I think it was.  Jana didn't say specifically that she meant Patrick would have to pay a person to befriend him.  She just happened to quote him to keep her joke in context amidst the great olive debate.  (For the record, I'm pro olive but don't care for pimentos.  [8D])

Even though I'm pretty sure Jana was just kidding around, I don't happen to think she's wrong, either.  You honestly can't tell Me that there aren't people out there who aren't appealing to others to the point where they have to pay for company.  We've got a few of them on the boards who constantly go on about how nobody wants to be their friend or be around them.  (Pretty easy to figure out why when you read their posts, but that's another issue.)  A couple of them have gone on for literally years that they have nobody to talk to (which I firmly believe they have brought on themselves) and come here running for attention as a result of it.

You can tell Me that is mean all you like, but it also happens to be true.

I'm not advocating for or against prostitution. I'm certainly not advocating that prostitution is not dehumanizing. Follow the conversation from the first statement she made and you will see what I was refering to.

I agree, you missed what I was implying.

Now to clarify the total argument I was making for those who don't have thier thinking caps on, or are simply are too lazy to read the whole convo.

She's ok with prostitution, even though it's dehumanizing, as long as it is "handled in a way that is acceptable to her."

The point I was making should be obvious.

Everyone up to speed? [sm=jerry.gif]
