Correction, your president. I'm not a citizen. And I don't recall seeing him whine. Do you have a reference to supply?

And as for what his constituents want? I rather doubt their first priority in life is to have Obama out of office. I would think that having a decent wage, good health care, to name but two, would be more important to most.


Just Google ANY of his speeches over the last three years, all he does is whine and complain about the mess he spent millions of dollars, and months of campaigning to "inherit". He blames everything on his predecessor, despite the fact he was a member of the Senate, and partiality responsible for the mess himself.

No need for the correction either, you may not be a citizen, but I am, therefore he's our, as in me and every other American on this forum's President, and I am correct in using our in that manner.

I think that's incorrect, Dems would be centre or slightly left of centre, depending on the political lay of the land with the major parties in the UK. I feel it is slightly misleading to compare the US with Europe when defining political positioning because there are some very notable differences, e.g. there isn't really a strong Christian right in Europe anymore, and so there isn't quite the level of hostility between left and right. It seemed that Obama sometimes accessorised himself with fashionable distinctly leftist garb so must have some strong leftist values but the recession and political reality he confronted didn't allow him to advance them far, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, depending on one's perspective.

So you missed the cracks that were thrown at Bush when he was in office and you must have missed the ones thrown at Clinton before him. Personally I can't think of a president who wasn't disrespected by the opposite party before this. But if Obama thinks people are being mean to him, maybe he should join Sarah in Alaska. They can sit around eating moose and compairing notes on all the terrible things people say about them.

I don't know about interviews, because I never watched any with Bush, but the derision and over-talking certainly occurred afterwards.

What I'm saying Violet, is that beginning with Clinton, the outright disrespect for a president gained traction, grew during the Bush years, and is growing under Obama. Following that trend, the next president, whoever he or she might be, will face an even higher level of it. Imagine... Bachmann as your next president. Are you willing to get on the boat that we should all respectfully refer to her as President Bachmann, when one look around here gives good indication of what she's in for if she managed to win.

The nation doesn't respect them, and often along party lines. What we're seeing is the migration of that to levels where decorum once ruled - at least in the last 50 years or so. There was a time when people like Jackson just killed his opponents.



Actually, I'll reverse myself here violet. Obama probably is more of a target of disrespect than previous presidents. Do I think it specific to him? No. I think it a function of what I already described, meaning the next will probably endure an even higher level, a result of the fact that people in general have lost respect for both parties, and those who represent the parties.

A friend of mine once described fights on the playground as not liking each other, migrating to name calling, pushing and shoving and finally fists flying.

We're in the pushing and shoving stage.

He's only been President for a little over 2 1/2 years, Violet, but I'll admit it does seem quite a bit longer.

Obviously, there is a lot of short term memory loss in play, both in the thread, and at the NYT.

For clarity Arpig, "They look just as right leaning as the other bunch from this side of the pond.."  I friggin hate it when people leave shit off that pretty much slaps their point in the face from the get-go. Having said that, the topic he wants to pursue  deserves another thread, not this one as it does not address the topic.

As far as not doing his research for him, you'd have to be deaf, dumb, and blind, or at least stupid to not have a clue as to what divides parties at the extreme ends in this country. Rehashing that for an ugly cat with lipstick isn't something I'm going to do this morning. If he wants to start his own thread, then maybe we'll talk tonight.

I will respond to your post by saying that someone who shows disrespect has earned disrespect in return, no matter their title. Especially when you have a usurper (Soetoro/Soebarkah/Obama) stating "They [the GOP] can come along for the ride but they have to sit in the back [of the bus]."

It's subjective. You say whine, I don't. And I certainly wouldn't categorize him as a "whiney bitch", as you did. Do you always make such extreme judgments on people?

As for the use of "our", you were replying to my post and it's perfectly logical to see it as including me in the "our". If you were responding to others, then I would have seen it as you described above.
