In another bizarre move, the Justice Department — which had acknowledged that it was monitoring the case — declined to prosecute the killing as a hate crime. I actually hate to agree with certain people I normally just wonder at when I read the forums, but I find it disgusting you cannot seem to rationally discuss race or hate crimes when they are outside what people seem to feel is the norm for them- in other words white on black. I personally hate hate crime laws. They served a purpose back in the day when there truly was a problem, and needed harsh methods to fix it, but I find that since racism has died down a bit(yes I know its not dead, but there is now actual awareness) they are now making the problem worse, as they do not address anything equally. My point was not that racism is gone. It exists. On all sides of a huge ethnicity fence. Your link there, is it an attempt to reason that hate crime laws are necessary so that more whites who murdered blacks die since they are not sentenced to death otherwise? Since we are bringing up racial points not completely with the post, please explain to me why when you type in "black scholarship" there are over 15 million results, yet if you type in white instead you only get results about the fighting over 1 group offering 4 measly 500.00 scholarships.

I think the point over this article is that it wasn't majorly reported, nor was there the controversy over the racism involved. You need someone to blame so instead of looking at yourself you need to find someone of color to put the blame on for your own problems. Been done ever since this country was started. you are just prepetuating a grand tradition.

There is a HELL of a lot more in me and to me then just white, I would appreciate it if you would not try and point me out as the white devil, which I can just see coming up in other words. The main difference here is that I do not see myself as a victim. I WILL point out hypocrisy when I see it. See the words in bold. I myself have no race related problems. I have friends all over almost every spectrum, with my only criteria being that they don't bore me. None of them however try to get their way on things because they are "black" or "gay" or "crippled" or "female". Pulling any such card, race or not strikes me as incredibly whiny.

@tolovetolaugh, I really can't believe that you think that there is no more need for hate crime laws, because, in your words, "racism has died down a bit." Makes me wonder where the fuck you live!! In my world it is alive & well still. People are still killing people for their religious beliefs, the color of their skin, their sexual orientation, etc. These are all hate crimes. I went to a concert on Monday night where there were thousands of black people & very few whites. For the most part I was treated well, but the 2 ladies sitting next to me wouldn't speak to me, even when I spoke to them. They would speak to my friend who was sitting behind me, however. And when they left, they didn't even look my way, just said bye to my friend. I figured that I'd finally gotten so white that I'd become invisible. While this isn't necessarily the norm, the racism being so overt, there is still racism rampant in this country. Look at how the illegals coming from Mexico are treated while the white illegals from Canada are nowhere in the media. You must live in a fantasy world. What color is the sky there, anyway????

You can make something exclusive for blacks, but don't you dare do it for whites or you are racist. Does that mean that if you have a scholarship for women going into engineering that would be sexist? I once recieved a scholarship reservd exclusively for men in a female dominated discipline. Some hair care products are marketed as just for blacks is that racist?
