1328 murders in 2009 with only 24 executions. Not killing em fast enough

Anyone who is enthusiastic about the death penalty should NEVER be in charge of deciding whether it's administered or not.

Though I personally don't agree with it, I can understand why it appeals to some people who feel reluctantly that there's no alternative deterrent, that it's a kind of judicial last resort.

But any one who is zealous or enthusiastic about executing people is obviously coming from a different, far more sinister, far uglier place.

seems cowardice is a significant achievement in civilisation

Come on.......your post implies a comparison with the death penalty in Iran with that of the US or Texas. It's a really long stretch.

how comes the US have far higher murder rates than most other countries?

seem abolishing death penalty had a better deterrent effect than executions ...

and if one looks for the effect of public executions to compare ... have a look at public executions in China and Iran

Possibly because we dont have as strict gun control laws as other countries? It had nothing to do with abolishing death penalty. It had everything to do with the US having access to guns while other European countries limit them.

Comparing apples to oranges dont work here.

Possibly because we are a violent society in general.  Jerry Spence said that we were once during an interview.

Possibly there are not enough guns. I said that once during an interview.

Possibly we can highjack this thread. You said that once on a thread.

Arguing gun control would still be comparing apples and oranges. Different societies and cultures.

Perry has already killed at least one inocent man, Cameron Todd Willingham. What kind of blood thirsty maniac could possibly be proud of that fact?

Dubya.

no it is not a long stretch - take a look at the few few countries that still stick to death penalties
China, USA and Iran are the only ones left commiting death penalty regularly and in considerable number

China and Iran - those are the ones that share this sick belief in death penalty

if you don't like that comparison I am not the one to blame

and I don't give a whatever if it is a "local", a "state" or a "federal" issue
it has to do with human rights worldwide if anything

and definitely no crocodile tears about violent society - if the majority of countries worldwide can do without death penalty the No.1 superpower can not??????????

Exactly.

How is state sanctioned murder different from any other murder?

Because we like to call it justice?

It's still comparing apples to oranges and I would still say it's a stretch. Here in the US it takes many years for a defendant to get to the point of execution with lawyers, appeals and all the rest of it. In Iran you don't have all of that. There is no presumption of innocence and people are put to death after the crime rather quickly, not to mention the absurd things that can get you a death sentence, hung in a public square, and sometimes in multiples, and if I'm not mistaken a crap load more per capita than here in the US. There is just no comparison.

I would call that barbaric.

I don't who Jerry Spence is or why I should value his opinion, but we don't need to be a violent society.

It comes from people like you who believe that more guns will somehow make things more peaceful.

Are you familiar with with the Iranian legal system.

I'm not.

So can you educate me?

Or are you just blowing smoke out your ass?

I call death penalty as such barbaric - everywhere and for whatever "reason." No faint excuses whatever can justify death penalty (and "playing by the rules" does not make it any better - it's not a game).

Jerry Spence is that defense lawyer who always wears a fringed buckskin jacket. He writes books, is very smart and would be your first choice if you or your loved ones ever needed a defense attorney assuming you could afford him. He was also the one who defended Randy Weaver I think.

I don't think we need to be a violent society either. We have lots of guns in my neighborhood and it's quite peaceful.

Somehow I can't imagine my first choice for a lawyer would be someone who wears a fringed buckskin jacket.

I'm familiar enough to post what I did. It was in the back of my head from an article I read in one of those news reports in Time or Newsweek a while back along with pictures of several guys hanging from poles in a public place. The hanging guys were charged with what would have amounted to minor drug possession here in the US if I recall correctly.  I won't expand with more details because I'm not that familiar.

If you want to get educated stay in school and don't do any drugs.  [sm=anger.gif]

Wardrobe aside, if you were familiar with this guy I think you and I would agree he is top choice for a lawyer.
