We bellyached about $0.5B in loans to a company which is probably mostly gone. The Chinese have at last estimate, supported their factories with $30B. They can last through this downturn, and our companies can't.

So it seems to be a failure of capitalism.
How many u.s. companies are invested in those chinese companies?

Capitalism works when regulated- turns into Monopoly when not. I don't think any US firm invests in Chinese firms, although US firms do open up subsidiaries in China- but the Chinese tend to use that as a way to snag technology. Lots of US firms- especially pharmaceuticals bellyached that patents were mysteriously held up- and then found that research station #53 had somehow come up with their compound a month prior to their Chinese patent application. Surprising how often that happened....

Mostly gone? Its ALL gone. Why? Because in April, with everyone telling them the company would be bankrupt by September, they restructured the deal to move the taxpayer from first to last priority in a bankruptcy proceeding.

Perhaps there is another point of view

Capitalism seeks monopoly and buys politicians to insure it.

Here's the only point of view that matters. The Obama administration approved the Solyndra loan guarantee after restructuring it such that private investors would be first in line in event of bankruptcy just like the Obama administration structured its' bailout of GM such that unions would be first in line in event of success -- violations of existing laws for the benefit of major contributors to Obama's 2008 campaign in both cases.
