Fightdirecto -> $11k if you can prove Michelle Bachmann wasn't lying (9/15/2011 12:08:41 PM)

Minnesota Star-Tribune

quote:

A University of Minnesota bioethicist is offering $1,000 for medical proof that a woman’s daughter suffered mental retardation from the vaccine for human papillomavirus virus, a story that was told by Rep. Michele Bachmann after Monday’s debate.

Bachmann has come under fire from the medical community for suggesting the vaccination for the HPV virus, a sexually transmitted disease that can cause cervical cancer, is linked to mental illness.

Steven Miles, a U of M bioethics professor, said that he’ll give $1,000 if the medical records of the woman from Bachmann’s story are released and can be viewed by a medical professional.

His offer was upped by his former boss from the University of Minnesota, Art Caplan, who is now director of the University of Pennsylvania Center for Bioethics. Caplan said he would match Miles' challenge and offered $10,000 for proof of the HPV vaccine victim.

“These types of messages in this climate have the capacity to do enormous public health harm,” Miles said of why he made the offer. “The woman, assuming she exists, put this claim into the public domain and it’s an extremely serious claim and it deserves to be analyzed.”

After attacking Texas Gov. Rick Perry over his vaccination executive order at Monday’s debate — which scored Bachmann points from debate pundits — the Minnesota Republican said a woman had told her that the HPV vaccine had caused her daughter’s mental retardation. Bachmann repeated the story on NBC’s “Today” the next morning.

“There’s a woman that came up crying to me tonight after the debate,” Bachman told Fox News. “She said her daughter was given that vaccine. She said her daughter suffered mental retardation as a result of that vaccine.”

The comment has sparked widespread criticism from the medical community, which has said Bachmann was stoking unfounded fears similar to claims made about vaccines and Autism. ..

Miles and Caplan said they aren’t expecting much from their offer, but they are prepared to pay should the Bachmann campaign provide the woman or if she comes forward independently.

Don't hold your breath waiting for the Mystery Woman to show up...

She's a politician.

Her lips are moving.

Politician + Moving lips = lying.

prove the opposite.   I dare you.

Thank you very much.

So she takes what for her was a shining moment from the last debate.....and once again steps into loonybird land by going too far and saying too much.
What else is new [8|]

I happen to agree with her.  YAY FOR THE TRUTH.

MileHighM -> RE: $11k if you can prove Michelle Bachmann wasn't lying (9/15/2011 12:23:23 PM)

Thank God she is shooting herself in the foot.

I am offering a $1.00 bet that she will hang it up in the next 60days.

As i said in another thread. If I was Obama, I'd be funneling $ into her campaign fund.

No such advere reaction has ever been reported to the CDC and no such claim has been heard by the federal board that reviews vaccine injuries and compensates anyone actually injured by vaccines. The HPV vaccine is one of the safest vaccines ever produced with no known side effects except for those associated with receiving any injection.

So proven enough for any court.

How much are you offering for anybody who can do so? $11,000 seems to be the baseline here.

Didn't you read the article, Moonhead? The first guy offered up $1,000, the second guy, $10,000. So hunkie here has to post a $110,000! [:D]

Moonhead -> RE: $11k if you can prove Michelle Bachmann wasn't lying (9/15/2011 1:03:18 PM)

I did read the article: medication boy is demanding an opposite proof, so he has to match both offers, rather than one or the other. If he doesn't have enough gold to manage that, maybe he can invoice Bachmann.

pahunkboy -> RE: $11k if you can prove Michelle Bachmann wasn't lying (9/15/2011 6:04:11 PM)

Nah, just $100,000 to continue the pattern.

Don't hold your breath waiting for the Mystery Woman to show up...

I don't think she'll have much trouble...

Cervical cancer vaccine Gardasil sparks reactions
ALMOST 500 girls have had adverse reactions such as seizures, rashes and paralysis after taking cervical cancer vaccine Gardasil in Australia since it was released in April... In the US more than 2220 reports were lodged in 12 months, including controversial reports of more than seven deaths.
Cervical cancer drug Gardasil linked to deaths
Three young women are reported to have died days after the drug Gardasil was administered, while the jab is also suspected of triggering "adverse reactions" in 1,700 patients. The figures were uncovered by campaigners who made a freedom of information request in the US, where the vaccine was approved for use a year ago... Dr John Oakley, a West Midlands GP, said the trials for Gardasil had been so limited that the children taking it would be like "guinea pigs".
Don't be too quick to embrace HPV vaccine
It is disturbing that the maker of the current HPV vaccine, Merck, which is accused of lying to the FDA and to the medical community about Vioxx safety, is being given a blank check of trust by professionals. The Gardasil studies are similar to Merck's Vioxx work - Merck funded all of them, the authors include patent holders, Merck employees - 41 percent - and those that receive money from Merck - 80 percent. Studies involved only low-risk women who were followed for a very short time - two years - maximizing apparent efficacy. The placebo limb of the studies mostly got aluminum, a toxic component likely responsible for many of the side effects, also minimizing concerns of complications.
Study clearly demonstrates that aluminum found in vaccines can cause neurologic damage
The investigators concluded in that study "our data suggest that the aluminum hydroxide adjuvant induces both behavioral and motor deficits and the loss of motor neurons and increased presence of astrocytes [astrocytes are cells that express inflammatory markers] in spinal cord and neuronal apoptosis [cell death] in the primary motor cortex." When Professor Shaw was asked in an article by Pieta Wooley about this research Professor Shaw replied "No one in my lab wants to get vaccinated. This totally creeped us out. We weren't out there to poke holes in vaccines. But all of a sudden, oh my God-we've got neuron death!"
An editorial in the Journal of the American Medical Association (link) recommended against the mandatory vaccinations with Gardasil:
Earlier this year, Texas (by executive order) and Virginia made quadrivalent HPV vaccine mandatory for girls entering sixth grade. However, the rush to make HPV vaccination mandatory in school-aged girls presents ethical concerns and is likely to be counterproductive.

The ACIP recommendation supports making quadrivalent vaccination the standard of clinical care. However, it is important to emphasize that the vaccine is supported by limited efficacy and safety data. Clinical trials have thus far involved a relatively small population (<12 000 participants) for a limited period of follow-up (5 years). The vaccine has not been evaluated for efficacy among younger girls (aged 9 to 15 years). Yet, if the vaccine were required nationwide, it would be administered to some 2 million girls and young women, most of them between 11 and 12 years old and some as young as 9 years old. The longer-term effectiveness and safety of the vaccine still need to be evaluated among a large population, and particularly among younger girls.
Carry on.

The position you're applying for is already taken.

Is there anything else you can do?

The bigger issue IMHO, is whether government should force vaccines on folks.

I think that`s what Bachmann was driving at.

Perry`s defense was that he was protecting life.A tough call but when you`re a leader, making tough calls is your job.

I`m still undecided about some vaccines` side affects.

A friend of mine swears her boy was healthy and became autistic after his vaccinations.

The other materials in them like heavy metals are a possible culprit.

Children`s developing brains are extremely sensitive and vulnerable to mercury.Even the most minute amounts can be harmful.

The BIG problem that Cons have with the cervical cancer vaccine is that, supposedly, it will make all those innocent virginal HS girls become promiscuous.

You cant make sit like that up.
