I was just reading a post by Juliaoceania and I realized that every time I read one of her posts I kind of "hear" her words in that soft voice of the fairy character from the Lord of the Rings movie that she has for her avatar(or at least that is who it looks like). There are many on here that I never really look at the name...their avatar has become who they are to me.

Many times I have gone to look at a profile of someone and I'm really surprised by how different their picture looks in comparison to the one I had of them in my mind's eye. You know, it's kind of like when you hear someone on the phone and draw a mental picture of them being a short brunette and then one day meeting them and realizing they are a tall redhead.

Do others do this? Imagine a voice or personality or a look based upon a person's writing style and their avatars. If so...how do you imagine some of the others on here to be.

Wonder if people have a hard time imaging the "real" me based on my avatar or if they "hear" me in a little fairy voice or have a picture of me in their head that is so far off the reality...lol.

I just had a traumatic learning experience, my avatar came up different. Big red luscious lips (not bad but not me), so I can say I have a personal investment in my avatar and how it portrays me. Takes a pill and goes to my quiet place.

If I follow their profile back and see a picture, that's the face I imagine while reading their posts. My imagination supplies a voice but I have no real way of checking if it's an accurate voice, with most people. If they don't have a picture then yep, I tend to see them as their avatar, with an appropriate voice. Unless, of course, they have an avatar like mine.

In those cases, I just let my imagination supply all sorts of wacky faces and voices. Every once in awhile, just for fun, I'll read every post in a theme voice...Zod, or Daffy Duck, or Steve Irwin, or the Baroness. This happens a lot more often on slow days.

I have my avatars turned off, so I see 'you' when I read your posts.. a sexy redhead with just the right amount of cleavage on a bed. Why would I want an avatar in place of you!

I must admit, erin, that I thought of you as a little pixish sprite.  I just looked at your profile...I wasn't far off!

ROFLMAO...I know erin personally and somehow I don't know that I would tell her she's a pixish sprite to her face. But then again...definition of Pixy is; A fairylike or elfin creature, especially one that is mischievous; a playful sprite. Hmmm, have to think about that (winks at erin).

As to the avatars, I have to admit I somehow do associate the avatar withy a mental image of the poster. That may have changed recently though...I always pictured LAM as two elephants humping...then tess popped up a picture of him the other day and just ruined my whole world...lol. Guess that's why I couldn't find an avatar I was happy with, nothing fit, so thought I would just torture people right off with my pic...lol.

I look at profiles infrequently.

I was surprised the other day to read in a post that someone that I assumed to be female - based on the nick, as there was no avatar - actually was male.

As for your avatar, it says to me impish and thoughtful with wings. The long hair says sexy. Thoughtful also applies to your posts, is my impression.

As for my own avatar, it was carefully chosen.

I always find myself wondering about how the person sounds and looks.  If no pic is available, I generally have some picture in my mind, however I do link people to their avatar opposed to their name tag.
Erin, your avatar looks quite mischievous, and is not off the mark when I looked at your pics, especially the one of you filing your nails...my oh my, what could possibly be going on behind those eyes that appears to me to look extremely mischievous.
The really cool thing is I have that same bed comforter, only in different colors...mine is burgandy/pink/sage/hunter green.

Kate Blanchett does not really look like me, but that avatar kinda does. I am tall and I have similiar features as that pic. I also have similiar hair... I am heavier than she is though... she is like willow thin. My voice though... not soft and gentle at all...more giggles laughs and my voice is deep.

I chose the pic because I love LOTRs and I realized it kinda looked like me after I chose it. I used to have a pic up of me, but I have heard of them being taken off profiles and reused by others... that wouldn't be cool

mistoferin... your avatar is just like your name... reminds me of Ireland and leprechauns...lol

The actress's name is Kate Blanchett, who played Galadriel in the LOTR movies.

There is a quite a resemblence between the avatar she uses and how she (juliaoceania) appears in real life ;)

Wow, see what you can learn on here. I didn't even know that you could do that. Thanks for the "sexy" though, that was cool and made me feel good!

Perhaps my decision to use the goofy, idiotic cat "Stimpy" from the Ren and Stimpy cartoons as my avatar was a poor choice on my part.

On the other hand, it is just me and I could be wrong.

Damn, the secret is out.

Even if I was denied his good looks, I can still act like him in a Domililility manner, right?

That is so sweet, thank you.

Lol...actually that pic I didn't pose for! We had been doing the pics and I broke a nail. I sat down to fix it and he said my name and when I looked up he had the camera....that look is "Oh man, do you have to do that right now?".

I love that comforter set. My favorite colors are purple and green and I like them best when they are together.

Well I have to say that I loved that character in the film. If you look like her...well....I am soooo jealous. She's beautiful. I loved those movies (thanks ScooterTrash and ShiftedJewel for having me watch them).

As for my avatar, if that is what you got from it then I chose well because those were two aspects of myself that I wanted to project. My playful nature and my Irish heritage.

Sometimes I am surprised when I see someone's actual picture but not often. Half the time I don't even notice who made a post (often scroll back to see who it was) much less pay attention to a picture. I notice picture changes when they happen but otherwise avatars tend to fade into the background for me on the internet...kind of like advertising - I've trained myself to ignore banner ads

My avatar is a pic of me that was altered in PhotoShop with a coloured pencil filter. Dunno what kind of impression it gives, but it's definitely me.
