Whose Country Is It, Anyway?

quote:

What prevents our politicians from putting Americans first, deporting illegal aliens and suspending the importation of foreign labor until our own workers are back on the job?

Politics is one reason. Democrats see illegal aliens and their children as future Democratic voters. Republicans are terrified of being called racists and alienating the ethnic lobbies.

Crass commercial interest is another reason.

U.S. companies see immigrants, legal or illegal, as an endless source of cheap labor to keep wage costs down. And they are right. But who is looking out for the national interest, for all of the members of the American family, especially the unemployed?

Termyn8or -> RE: Importation Of Foreign Workers Must Halt (9/20/2011 10:43:56 AM)

I don't dig Pat Buchanon much but on this one he nailed it. The problem is there is not a damn thing we can do about it that would be anywhere near legal.

T^T

tazzygirl -> RE: Importation Of Foreign Workers Must Halt (9/20/2011 10:47:34 AM)

Where is it written that importation of workers is a legal right?

I'm going to agree wholeheartedly with the first part of this. Democrats DO see illegal aliens as potential future voters.

The second part is a bunch of crap.

Republicans see illegal aliens as someone that will work all day for damn near no money and therefore an increase in profit for the agribusiness that pays so much of their campaign expenses.

Combine the 2 and that's why we are in so much trouble. Illegal immigrants were winked at for decades because BOTH sides saw an advantage in looking the other way.

Nowhere... but it's too bad our famous ICE just couldn't screen visas for whether or not they add value to the country... because I think THAT is more discretionary than legal/illegal.

I would be curious to hear from pops on this as his city imports many people from overseas to work.

I guess you missed the third part of the post then:

Yeah just keep a fucking eye over your shoulder so you don't get trampled by Republicans racing to grab the disgruntled Latino voter scraps that are falling off Obama's table (close your eyes and think Rubio)

And Tony Villar's broom frantically trying to recapture them.

I saw the third part, I simply restated it.

It's all about profit from the right side.
It's all about potential future votes from the left.

Between them, they got the country into deep shit.

Ummm,... if they are illegal aliens and can not become American citizens, then they can not vote. Illegals have an extremely difficult time becoming legal, impossible for most imo. So pretty hard for me to see how any politician can see illegals as potential voters.

Dont worry about agribusiness, machinery manufacturers have started designing and building unmanned farm machines.. Then you have those lovely GMOs that are round up ready so farmers dont need the numbers of workers they once did. I saw some documentary show on that one time, a (legal) Hispanic family was looking to do farm work but the GMOs meant farmers didnt need them any more and the little bit of work they did find wasnt worth the summer trip to leave their own farm. That was sort of an interesting show but i cant remember the name of it off hand. And in addition to that, food importation from other countries is increasing and means the US is producing less and less of its own food. I lived in CA and they were selling berries from Chile instead.

I should clarify.

The children of the illegals are future voters.

Sorry 'bout that.

ok, sure, as it stands the children born in the US can... But that is a long term projection,.. you are talking about 20 years from now (for new illegals coming in now & having kids here).. Many of those politicians will be retired,.. politicians think very short term.. like to the next election and be dammed after that..

Hillwilliam -> RE: Importation Of Foreign Workers Must Halt (9/20/2011 1:35:59 PM)

Politicians think short term.

Party leadership thinks long term.

Politicians do what the leadership tells them to do like good little boys and girls or they don't get support the next election

sure the leadership thinks long term.. but they also have to think about the 300 million US citizens and not alienate those present voters by catering to a very small number of non-citizens. There would be a point where certain policies would cost too much in lost votes today. There are also a fair number of legal US Hispanic citizens that feel as non-Hispanics do, btw, and dont want illegals in the US either.

But, from the title of the thread, its imported workers that is seen as the problem then, not immigrants that come with $$$ ?...

tazzygirl -> RE: Importation Of Foreign Workers Must Halt (9/20/2011 2:20:54 PM)

There are many legal latino voters who take notice of how politicians treat illegal immigrants. Its not a huge block of votes... but apparently its an important one.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Importation Of Foreign Workers Must Halt (9/20/2011 2:23:16 PM)

It definitely is the imported workers tj. Unfortunately, a lot of them are illegal or they come legally and overstay their visas and become illegal.

It became a problem because both sides gained something from it and there was an implicit (I won't do anything about your future voters if you don't do anything that hurts my profits) between the parties.

He will and he will agree despite the fact that Tyson Chicken company is owned by a big-ass republican family, who put billboards up in Brownsville texas giving them directions to the NC processing plant
