It's not just a "war against abortion"

quote:

The GOP’s concerted campaign against women’s health has resulted in about 1,000 anti-abortion bills in state legislatures across the country and numerous federal attempts to eradicate a woman’s right to choose. The extremity of the efforts include attempts to redefine “personhood,” put warning labels on contraception, and criminalize birth control altogether. But while they smother women’s rights with one hand, Republicans insist “we are not attacking women” on the other. “This is not a war against women,” said Republican founder of WomanTrend Kellyanne Conway.

Texas Rep. Wayne Christian (R), however, begs to differ...

When asked whether Texas’s anti-family planning efforts were “a war on birth control,” Christian replied, “Well of course this is a war on birth control and abortions and everything”:

quote:

The goal is to get government money out of the abortion process and if contraceptive services have to suffer a bit of collateral damage in the process, so be it. When The Texas Tribune asked state Rep. Wayne Christian (R-Nacogdoches), a supporter of the family planning cuts, if this was a war on birth control, he said “yes.”

“Well of course this is a war on birth control and abortions and everything, that’s what family planning is supposed to be about,” Christian said.

Family planning clinics are routinely referred to by many Texas Republican legislators as “abortion clinics” even though none of the 71 family planning clinics in the state that receive government funding provide abortions. Texas and federal law prohibits that, but most women’s health clinics will refer women or teens who want an abortion to a provider.

“They’re sitting here, referring women out to receive abortions,” Christian said in an interview with NPR. “Those are the clinics, including Planned Parenthood, we were targeting.”

While disturbing, Christian’s honesty is a refreshing change from Republicans’ more common defense that cuts to women’s health care will save money. As NPR notes, the state estimates that 300,000 women will lose access to family planning services because of these cuts, resulting in roughly 20,000 additional unplanned births.

Game plan of the anti-choice movement:

First, prison and/or the death penalty for any doctor who performs an abortion for any reason, to include abortions for women and girls who become pregnant from rape or incest or where bringing the fetus to term would kill the mother.

Next, prison for all medical clinic workers (nurse’s, receptionists, etc.) if the medical clinic performs an abortion for any reason.

Next, prison and/or the death penalty for any woman who either gets an abortion (including women who go to another country to get a legal abortion) or induces their own abortion.

Next, investigation of all miscarriages, to determine if it was a spontaneous miscarriage or was caused by some action of the mother. If it is determined that the miscarriage was caused by some action of the mother, prison for the mother under negligent manslaughter if the fertilized egg has been fertilized more than 24 hours.

Next, criminalize the manufacture, possession or use of IUDs.

Next, criminalize the manufacture, possession or use of birth control pills.

Next, criminalize the manufacture, possession or use of condoms.

Next, investigation of all cohabitating male-female couples who have no children to verify that they are not using any form of birth control, to include abstinence. If they are found to be using any form of birth control, to include abstinence, prison.

The future “Brave New World” of the anti-choice movement..

I really doubt that, The Handmaiden's Tale, is the game plan of the anti-choice /pro-life movement. [8|]

Frankly, this post puts you on the same moral and ethical level as those you rail against. Both sides need to stop using women's bodies as a political battleground.

This crap does not help to 'protect' my right of choice. It marginalizes any choice or decision I make with regards to my reproductive sysmtem to a pawn's movement. You can imagine just how much THAT thrills me.

The only thing missing is a recognition that fathers should have rights as well.

When you can gestate, labor, and deliver a baby, you too will enjoy the exact same property rights as a future-mother.

Until then? You're a sperm-donor, and if you don't secure the privileges you want by contract in advance? Caveat Sperm-donor, dude...

I agree, they should. A friend and I have discussed this several times. Unfortunately until technology can give us a uterine replicator, we have yet to come up with a good way of ensuring this.

The problem with ensuring father's rights is simple... we know beyond a doubt who the mother is... we dont with the father. 8 weeks, which is the typical span between finding out a woman is pregnant and obtaining an abortion (yes, some are shorter, some are longer) doesnt leave a whle lot of time for demands of paternity tests and court orders. Not to mention the potential for abuse in such cases, holding up a woman's abortion simply because a man can and he desires to be spiteful... not saying all man are or will be...

Lucylastic -> RE: Anti-Choice Legislator Not Hiding True Goals (9/21/2011 10:24:29 AM)

Id like to know just how many women abort because the sperm donor is the issue.
too many I fear

The mother has just as much chance of being spiteful. If she genuinely doubts who the father is then maybe abortion is the best option, because she is probably unfit for parenthood anyway.

It also does not help that some Supreme Court decisions have eroded the protections that marriage gave to father's rights.

slvemike4u -> RE: Anti-Choice Legislator Not Hiding True Goals (9/21/2011 10:32:06 AM)

Interesting pov willbeur....it would seem to indicate that you are prochoice in cases where the mother is somehow lacking in,what you see as the parenthood quality,by the way fathers have rights already...we have seen all too often the instances where it takes a court order to see them live up to those "rights".... Of course this is once the baby is born[:)]

He thinks father's should have rights over mothers rights, and who should be allowed to have children(doesnt want the mother to have any , but the
sperm donor, gets to choose....Oh what a suprise

Too many republicans REALLY BELIEVE that women are their property.

Lol... it's like.. I was fucking this dumb, ugly, and stinking brute... and GOT PREGNANT.. can you believe it? Like what's up with that? Or is it, I fucked this dude and he was like cool and all but two days later i caught him texting with my friend. Fuck that shit.

Or maybe, sigh, it's just me. I have a tendency to pick abusive assholes and did IT AGAIN. The bastard would be fertile you know. I'll be more careful next time I pick one. I'll make him wear a rubber damnit.

While none of those have any connection any given person's reality, that's exactly what your post brought to mind.

Too many dems think the issue is the woman. Trot on over to the Masters forum if you want exposure to true believers.

Lucylastic -> RE: Anti-Choice Legislator Not Hiding True Goals (9/21/2011 11:06:16 AM)

and it appealed to you because??
You really think that women dont get pregnant and agonize about aborting because the man turns out to be a complete shit head??
im glad you havent been THAT man, but I can see there are more than one who would actually fit that profile quite well

tazzygirl -> RE: Anti-Choice Legislator Not Hiding True Goals (9/21/2011 11:33:23 AM)

Im curious... if men werent fucking those women who are too stupid to know who got them pregnant, this wouldnt be an issue at all.

Not really speaking highly of the men, are they.

Its often.. Man, I hit this fucking hot bitch last night... and could you believe it? All because I forgot to use a condom, this bitch is now pregnant. SHE TRAPPED ME!

Not sure what you mean by appealed to me, but I'm sure some women do abort because the man turned out to be a complete shit head.

I'm just hoping it's not "too many I fear" from the pro-choice crowd.

Lucylastic -> RE: Anti-Choice Legislator Not Hiding True Goals (9/21/2011 11:35:55 AM)

my idea of sterilizing men at birth makes more and more sense every day:)

tazzygirl -> RE: Anti-Choice Legislator Not Hiding True Goals (9/21/2011 11:37:18 AM)

Lucylastic -> RE: Anti-Choice Legislator Not Hiding True Goals (9/21/2011 11:39:28 AM)
