If you're thinking about putting money on the race think 8 - 10 points... And yeah, that's before even declaring.

What I heard is Brownie is already warming up the "she's against business" rap. But since he has delivered SQUAT and doesn't even vote with his peer (DESPITE CALLS FROM 70% of his constituents to his office directing him to do so), color him gone by a wide margin.
You have no idea how may voters concerned with the senate race stayed home for the 'special' election. And Martha Coakley basically was a real sympathy fuck with the voters. She may be an okay AG, but most of us guys have no urge to look up her skirt... Politically speaking of course

not only that.. but the big, huge assumption here is that this factory/business actually survives and makes any money.. which considering the stats, is not the fate for the majority of new businesses (especially under 5 years)... which means the $$ invested and put at risk is borne by the owner of the business/factory/corporation.. The owner doesnt get to collect unemployment insurance either, he had better have an emergency fund if he doesnt want to end up homeless on that nicely paved street..

And many entreprenuers have had several businesses fail before they actually get one that survives..

But that is the nature of capitalism, is it not?  If success in starting a business was always a certainty, it really would not be called capitalism, would it?  This is where you decipher between those who should be business owners and those who should not.

That said, there is nothing wrong with imparting a little bit of social contract on all businesses in the successful capitalism sphere. Just because some people are less equipped and should never have operated a business in the first place does not relieve that obligation from the successful ones.

I just dont think people get how difficult it is to have a business succeed and the cost. And if the business fails as many do, where are all the socialists when the owner who has put it all on the line has nothing left and is hungry and homeless? Are you there to help him then?

WTF is with the eternal mantra of "socialism" all the time? Like it's something we'd look at our government and have a fucking V8 moment... Jesus it would be a lot more expedient if a few messages back they'd simply say "Now you heed me, or I'm gonna go all Dr. Zhivago on your ass"

well, from what i have been told it takes a long time to get welfare so thats as good as nothing, even if he/she were to qualify. Lots of businesses start on shoestrings so there isnt a lot of money let alone saving for an emergency fund.

Its always been surprising to me that someone owning a business, putting whatever you have at risk, stimulating the economy by buying machinery, materials, etc and providing jobs for other people, that they should be exempt from getting unemployment insurance like everyone else.. That is not fair to me and its not very socialistic either, imo.

It takes a month to get welfare--max, so long as all of your paperwork is in order.  But for some, perhaps their assets are too high.  Welfare doesn't count ownership of a "modest" home because everybody has to live somewhere, but they do take into account the value of vehicles (especially if there is more than one) jewelry and "cash on hand" (which includes money in stocks and other investments).  They also look at obsessively large insurance policies.  I've known people who suddenly found themselves out of work, went through their unemployment and then applied for welfare and biotched because they denied because they were told they had sell some of their valuables and live off those proceeds before they could qualify.  I've even seen one lady sitting in the welfare office wearing her expensive jewelry.  It sickened me.

Hmmm

A business is started on a piece of property... are the roads already there? Then yes, the rest of us did pay for those roads.. not just the business owner.

I believe the point of the quote was lost on many people... as I feared it would be.

The point was... no business owner, you didnt do it alone. You had lots and lots and lots of help from the taxpayers when you needed help to get started. Yet now, you dont want to help out those taxpayers who helped you out when you needed help.

Where anyone saw bigotry in that quote... lol.... ok.. that made me laugh.

The business owner is... part of us, taz. I don't get this, don't want to help out taxpayers thing. It's like saying the business owner pays no taxes, when by far the vast bulk of business owners in this country aren't GE, Microsoft, or Walmart. And by golly, they do pay taxes. Not only do they, but they did before they were ever business owners. They took part in building that road, and take part in maintaining it.

I don't get the vilification. It's like 'You hired workers the rest of us paid to educate'? Really? Well, who's going to hire them if the business owner doesn't?  What they fuck are those same workers going to do if they don't work? And the business owner paid no property taxes, no state taxes, nothing to contribute to the building of schools or the wages of teachers? He or she sits in a castle, surrounded by a moat, and abuses loyal subjects who have no where else to turn, and are chained like chattel to the realm?

From the small business administration:

Small firms:
•    Represent 99.7 percent of all employer firms.
•    Employ half of all private sector employees.
•    Pay 44 percent of total U.S. private payroll.
•    Generated 65 percent of net new jobs over the past 17 years.
•    Create more than half of the nonfarm private GDP.
•    Hire 43 percent of high tech workers ( scientists, engineers, computer programmers, and others).
•    Are 52 percent home-based and 2 percent franchises.
•    Made up 97.5 percent of all identified exporters and produced 31 percent of export value in FY 2008.
•    Produce 13 times more patents per employee than large patenting firms.

These are the people we're supposed to hate? The people we're supposed to corner and shake down for a 'hunk' to support the next kid going forward?

These people?

At what rates are the self-employed taxed?
Of the 15.5 million individuals whose primary occupation was self-employment (incorporated and unincorporated), the median personal marginal federal tax rate was 10 percent in 2008.  Only 4.1 percent of the self-employed were in the marginal tax bracket of 33 percent or more.I

Is Lizzy just talking about the .3 percent who are GE, Microsoft and Walmart? Or do we need to don armor, get out the pitchforks and torches and start stringing up Dan down at the local hardware store, Pete at the hot dog stand, and Carrie who sells dream catchers on Ebay?

Seriously, tell me. Who are we supposed to shake down? The vague painting of anyone in business, anyone who makes a life outside of government, anyone who even makes it into the 10 percent tax bracket as parasites on a society that they paid into, are paying into, and a society that couldn't exist without them is just wrong.

Oh, no one, we'll all be "at social services collecting"

I do know a bit. If you want to plunge all your assets into a business venture youarent even sure will succeed, dont whine about it.

Especially when that venture fails and leaves you homeless and hungry.
