I believe the point of the quote was lost on many people... as I feared it would be.
The point was... no business owner, you didnt do it alone. You had lots and lots and lots of help from the taxpayers when you needed help to get started. Yet now, you dont want to help out those taxpayers who helped you out when you needed help.
Where anyone saw bigotry in that quote... lol.... ok.. that made me laugh.
The business owner is... part of us, taz. I don't get this, don't want to help out taxpayers thing. It's like saying the business owner pays no taxes, when by far the vast bulk of business owners in this country aren't GE, Microsoft, or Walmart. And by golly, they do pay taxes. Not only do they, but they did before they were ever business owners. They took part in building that road, and take part in maintaining it.
I don't get the vilification. It's like 'You hired workers the rest of us paid to educate'? Really? Well, who's going to hire them if the business owner doesn't? What they fuck are those same workers going to do if they don't work? And the business owner paid no property taxes, no state taxes, nothing to contribute to the building of schools or the wages of teachers? He or she sits in a castle, surrounded by a moat, and abuses loyal subjects who have no where else to turn, and are chained like chattel to the realm?

These are the people we're supposed to hate? The people we're supposed to corner and shake down for a 'hunk' to support the next kid going forward?

Is Lizzy just talking about the .3 percent who are GE, Microsoft and Walmart? Or do we need to don armor, get out the pitchforks and torches and start stringing up Dan down at the local hardware store, Pete at the hot dog stand, and Carrie who sells dream catchers on Ebay?
Seriously, tell me. Who are we supposed to shake down? The vague painting of anyone in business, anyone who makes a life outside of government, anyone who even makes it into the 10 percent tax bracket as parasites on a society that they paid into, are paying into, and a society that couldn't exist without them is just wrong.
