Tazzy, my doctor also said don't start fearing sugar, just start being more aware as to what you are eating. Sugar Alcohols many times effect people differently. What you are going to need to do is become more aware of what you are eating, reading labels, and how it all effects your body. You can probably do that now with regard to what you usually eat. Take your average day and look at the stuff you are eating, is it high in carbs or is it sweet? Try and determine whether its a sweet tooth you have or are you a over carbeater. People hear diabetes a lot and think omg cut out the sugar anything with sugar. No, that isn't realistic and for many people its not the case. It's the carb laden food they are eating, the weight and lack of exercise. You can easily go on a very simple eating plan of a protein, and carb in the way of veggies, and a fat for each meal, and you will probably see your sugars stablize, especially with the medication you are taking. Beware of sauces, and marinates, and anything you don't make yourself. And, you probably know this but stay away from anything that says low fat. Low fat products tend to replace the fat with sugars. So if you do a lot of low-fat products, this change will probably help a lot. I use splenda all the time, in my coffee, and on foods if i want them sweeter. I have heard good things about stevia/truvia thingy but have never tried it. People also recommend using liquid stevia as the taste is a little more potent but i can't personally say either way. Again, try not to freak out and ingest everything there is to know right now, take it a little at a time because not all information will work for you personally and if you try and do it all at once, you won't be able to decipher what works and doesn't. What do you know? 1) you need to make dietary changes, 2) what else do you need to work on -- your weight or perhaps incorporating exercise. Cut out the processed foods unless its an emergency, and go back to the basics and K.I.S.S (Keep it simple, sweety, stupid etc etc whatever S word works for you). Work with what you know works but more so what you can work with, this is a life change so if you can't work with it, it won't work. angel
