From the article, Mayor Bloomberg:

quote:

"The protesters are protesting against people who make $40-50,000 a year and are struggling to make ends meet. That's the bottom line," Bloomberg said, presumably meaning service workers on Wall Street, adding that "we all" share blame for taking on too much risk, not just the financial industry.

"And people in this day and age need support for their employers. If the banks don't go out and make loans we will not come out of our economic problems, we will not have jobs so anything we can do that's responsible to help the banks do that is what we need."

He isnt out of touch, he is telling anyone who will listen who is.

Except that nobody is protesting against the poor sap who makes $40,000-$50,000 a year.  It is those in charge, those making millions a year and who effectively control our government that is the cause of the protest.  Anybody who doesn't get that doesn't know what the hell is going on.

Anybody who doesnt get that if you hold back any sector of the economy the people who get hurt the worst are the middle class doesnt know what the hell is going on.

But Roseanne only wants to behead them if the reeducation camps don't work...

I doubt she's going to surface as a venerated spokeshole for the group, anyway.

Also, we need to outlaw "lobbyists." They shouldn't have "special access" to the congress! They can sit down at their kitchen table just like I do and write a letter to their senators and congressmen.

I was totally with you, popeye, until this statement.  I don't want to see lobbyists outlawed.  As a former patient in the public mental health system and now a service in that same system, I've been involved with lobbying groups.  However, the groups I've been involved are nothing like the big business groups that "do favors" in the form of campaign donations, vacations, etc. Basically, groups that lobby for better public mental health treatment are relatively low budget and don't have the funds to more or less "bribe" a legislator.  And that is the problem.  Money and favors needs to be taken out of lobbying.  It should be illegal for any politician to accept a donation in exchange for his/her vote on an issue.  But how to track that is the question.

Well, the Airline Pilot's Union, NYC Transit Workers, and United Steelworkers ALL have come out in support of OWS, so your strawman arguments fail.

Of course, if you actually had a point, you wouldn't have had to attack the protesters themselves...

From what I'm reading, Erie, the protesters are pretty clueless themselves, but having Susan Sarandon and Michael Moore show up, and the goonions offering their "support" (read co-opting whatever energy is there to a political agenda they approve of) doesn't much inspire me.

What "Middle Class"? There is no middle class anymore.

You're either in the 1% of the wealthy.

Or you're the other 99% of the rest of us...

When has the wealthy ever been held back?  They did pretty darned good for themselves under Clinton's tax levels.  They even did pretty good under Eisenhower's 90% tax at the upper levels.  It is nothing but greed.  Pure, unadulterated greed.

Arent these union leaders sucking off of the public teat more and more these days, with leftists in charge and running Washington?

As the federal deficit bloats out of control more and more every day it seems what should be protested is government largesse towards all these highly paid union lobbyists and power elite such as James Hoffa

Hey, Fargle? Do you remember your mom telling you that if you kept crossing your eyes, they'd get stuck like that?

She was right.

I watched the video, thank you for the link, Rich. But what about that indicates they are strictly a leftist organization?

Is this the question you meant, Tazzy? Sorry. I'm trying to do six different things here at mid-day, and only 2 involve the computer.

I don't know that they are "strictly" leftist, but there was a hard lean in the sentiments expressed throughout the video, and it is the video being used by the organizers, so I'll take it for more honest than what is being cobbled together by those who want to get it defined, and into the box of a particular pre-existing agenda.

That last guy, simply stating that this was the hard-left response to the Tea Party; the use of standard leftist vocabulary, such as, "caring for the collective."

Are you hearing some conservative rhetoric in there to balance it out? I was bouncing from blog to blog, trying to get a feel for the mood and probably should have bookmarked the ranting guy who was pissed that Ron Paul supporters might join one of the support rallies.

Depends, do you believe the rule of law is a conservative ideology?

“The protesters are conservatives in this sense, they call for the rule of law. The real radicals… are the rapacious oligarchic class.”

I think the concept of the rule of law transcends the divisions that come later, Tazzy. It's when we get into the definitions that it gets all dicey.

I don't think the protesters are clueless, Heretic.

I've been surfing through message boards for organizing the solidarity demonstrations, Erie. I'm sticking with clueless, and ripe for exploitation. Similar, some I'm sure will say, to the development of the Tea Party, but liberals are far easier to herd than conservatives.

ROFLMAO

Cons are eager to march in lockstep over any cliff their leaders point to. The kindest thing that can be said about trying to organize liberal groups is that it isn't, quite, herding cats.

Then I am a bit confused if the term doesnt indicate one or the other, and thats what this group apparently is seeking.

Admitted confusion is a wonderful response, Tazzy. Whose rule, of what law? Should the City of New York decide to move these folks along, they'll call that the rule of law as well, and maybe give the protesters more of it than they bargained for.

Its a peaceful protest. Other than ensuring public safety if problems begin, what grounds would they have to "move" people along?
