That reminds me of a certain puzzle that can only be spoken and not written. I heard it on the radio and couldn't help laugh 'cause the radio host didn't get it, despite the attempts of the person relaying the puzzle. :D

Huge amounts of things, like the ones posted by gungadin... without the interference of theists. Which is a good reason to have Atheist forums.
The same applies for Theist, Christian, Communists, etc...

No, they don't. In English, Atheism describes both the "weak" and the "hard" positions, where some of them do not say "There is no God". They just do not say "There is a God" either. Some, for example, Russell or Drange, say that the question cannot be answered. Drange even says that it is not a question at all.
As long as English puts Agnosticists in the concept of Atheist, atheist do not agree on, that there is no God.

If you consult the Oxford dictionary, or the wikipedia and its sources, or you consult the difference between "weak" and "hard" Aheist as I mentioned in my posting, you will discover that yes, the English language does include both Agnostics and hard Atheists in the concept of Atheist. Agnostics do not believe in the existence of God, therefore they are Atheists according to the Oxford dictionary and those other sources.
If you played more attention to my posting, you would have seen that I say that the ones are included in the others. This suggests that I know perfectly well that they are not synonymous.
Maybe you should read with more attention and answer more thoughtfully. I am trying to be diplomatic here, but you posting was very annoying for me because of the tone.

Good. I'm glad it was annoying. That classification of degrees of atheism doesn't come from the OED, it comes from Richard Dawkins.

Consult the Oxford dictionary. Not Dawkins. The Oxford dictionary. I did put you the link already, but you do not read what I am writing.

There you will find that agnostics are included in the group of atheists, as I said the English language does.

As for the classification between strong / weak Atheist, was there before Dawkins was born... it relies on Karl Marx strong/weak differentiation. Marx being Aheist long before your father was born... [:D].

Actually, for your shame and ridicule, Dawkins precisely critisizes this classification prefering a stochastic approach. "The God Delusion" p. 50-51.

And now I "hide" you because I prefer not to read people who want to be annoying and do not pay attention. Oh, and yes, the argumentum ad verecundiam is also pretty ridiculous.

PS: There is also "lesbian studies". Apply the same. You are lesbian and that's it, but the story of lesbianism and its relation with the surrounding society can be an interesting subject matter. I guess even you or your partner know something about some famous lesbian. Why did you care? It does not matter... but you did.

i think the problem here is that for some being an atheist is a big part of who the fuck they are, its a major component of their self image. while to me it just describes something i am not. i'm not a theist, and that's all there is to it, it doesn't affect my life in any fucking tangible manner, it's just something i don't believe is real, right up there with santa claus, the easter bunny, the tooth fairy, tarzan, and gregory house.

being female or a fucking lesbian does effect my life in a concrete manner, being an atheist doesn't.

* No, if I define "god" as "Hannah" you definitivey believe that Hannah exists. You sentence makes no sense, sorry.
* Some people care about history. That you do not care is your choice but don't try to denigrate interests just because they are not yours.
* Some people care about fighing against discrimination, no matter if they feel "more atheist" or not for that (in that point I agree with you).
* Being atheist DOES affect your life, as it excludes being, for example, Christian. And it also affects how some people react to you.

I am with you in many points:
* Atheism is in core simple and admits few degrees (disagree with Dawkins on that).
* Atheism is as itself nothing to be proud of (but I think it can be to reach that from a religious society, as it shows independence of criteria).
* Atheism implies no special set of interests, values, etc.

But it *makes* sense to speak about atheist studies or knowledge on Atheism.

Last but not least. I understand that everbody here expresses themselves as they please, but I will limit strongly my communication with you if you continue using the word "fuck" on every sentence. Just saying.

Not that you funcking have to fucking care, it is ok if you do not give a fuck about how the fuck I fucking communicate with you, but I fucking find it simply fucking annoying to fucking read the "fuck" word on every fucking sentence and therefore I'm fucking informing you about which my fucking course action will be.
