I'm sure the people involved will be charged with trespass and disorderly conduct but it certainly doesn't look like a riot and don't the bank's customers have a right, even as a protest, to close their accounts anytime a branch is open?

Regardless of whether it's legal or not, this is a PR nightmare for Citi. Customer service at its worst, and there will be no sympathy for them should they need another bailout. How did people so fucking stupid get to run a bank, anyway?

You have no clue from that video how disruptive they were being inside the bank.

On what grounds were security of citibank holding these people?

There have been no indications of damage. No accusations of personal threats. And two people were pulled back inside by security to wait to be arrested.

Sounds like false imprisonment.

Actually, they will likely be caused with attempting to start a run on the bank, which is a big deal. Everything in the law isn't about personal threats or damage.

When you trade in your nursing degree and get something law related so you understand what false imprisonment is, then you might make sense. Until then, continue to google everything you can and post it even when you don't have the necessary understanding of what it means.

There is a something that no one seems to be thinking about here. I agree that the banks are causing a mess right now, BUT, has anyone thought of some of the ramifications of closing the accounts?

The goal is obviously to close enough accounts the bank goes under. Highly unlikely that may be, if it were achieved, has anyone thought about the ramifications of that? What about people who have mortgages with those banks? In a scramble to get back on board, there would be more foreclosures and other loans called in.

At the end of the day, doing this is just going to make the problem worse if they were to be successful.

Sorry, that wasnt googled. Can you show me in the law where you cannot close your account please? You will also note I mentioned these people were held and arrested. I asked on what grounds. Im sure you, being a lawyer, can explain those grounds.

Wasnt it not too long ago that someone held up a BoA atm card on the Senate floor and told everyone who was listening to get their money out of BoA? How come he wasnt arrested for "inciting a bank run"?

Of course there is. There are security CCTV cameras on 24/7. The footage is the bank's property, and I doubt they'd release it.

BofA has 57 million consumer and small-business accounts. If a majority of them uses debit cards, the $5 monthly fee will bring the company a windfall of about $3 billion a year — or $1 billion more than BofA is currently making from transaction fees.
