I don't have a problem with my "rights" being taken away if it makes it safer for me to fly. You wanna scan me, go through my luggage, pat me down? I'll be more than glad to oblige. I have absolutely nothing to hide.

When I go to a courthouse I have to be scanned, when I get on the bus there are cameras watching my every move, when I walk into my house there are police cars that roam my neighborhood watching every person that passes them by.....why should my flying be any different? It keeps me safe. I kinda like knowing I'm safe.

well, you might not feel that way if your name was accidentally put on the no fly list or the same as someone on that list (like the problem Senator kennedy & many others was supposed to have)... I dunno, patting down little kids is making you feel safe? having women have to remove all their clothing cuz they have a piercing and then having to remove it makes you feel safer? There are lots of wtf are they thinking examples of things they do in the name of making Americans feel safer..

of course, as Americans it is your right to give up your rights.. but then people, dont bother to whine about it.. its too late..

if you have a piercing, remove it before you go through. If your kid has the same name as a terrorist then there are special papers. Same for medical issues, you get special papers from your physician. I think the media hypes it to make it seem like a huge deal and people like to make huge deals about stuff because they simply didn't go through the correct procedures.

When my daughter had to go through the detectors when she was really young they patted her down a few times because she beeped. Neither she nor I thought it was a big deal. She did what they told her and we went on our merry way.

When I hear these kinds of stories I think of my "stepdad" who would complain about everything under the sun. He was a crotchety, old, miserable man but everyone just ignored him because they knew the reason he complained was because it was the only thing on earth that made him happy.

The one woman I read about that the piercing thing happen to couldnt remove it, as i recall. I cant remove mine either, i would not be able to get it back on. Once the TSA agent sees that is just a friggin piercing, for what reason for national security does it then need to be removed?

People dont know their name is on the no fly list or same as a name on it until they get to the airport and try to board. It took senator kennedy with his famous face 5 weeks to get that cleared up and he was apparently told he could not fly.. It is not something that gets fixed instantly even if you are a famous senator.. and, well, by then you have missed your flight..

I dont have kids so that doesnt affect me but i would think lots of parents dont quite understand why it is necessary to do that to little kids.. I wonder exactly how many little kids have been terrorists in the US...

Nothing like squashing a bug with a sledge hammer when a fly swatter will do..

well, there are other places in the world that dont go to these lengths and they do just fine.

oddly enough those words don't appear anywhere in the 4th. face it the bill of rights is a fucking joke, it may as well be written on charmin for all the good it does.

Think of it this way. The second amendment grants US citizens the right to bear arms. That isn't a blanket right though. We then have laws that dictate what is necessary to own a gun. Convicted felons are not permitted to go buy a gun. People with serious (potentially violent or suicidal tendencies) mental illnesses are not permitted to own guns. Background checks are required.

The Constitution gives the frame work and the laws specify the circumstances. The Constitution gives that whacko Westboro Church the right to protest, but the laws of the states dictate under what circumstances, i.e. whether they need permits, whether it can be done in certain areas.

Her reciting the 4th Amendment under the premise of "Free Speech" stops being a "right" when it causes a disturbance. If the KKK holds a rally that incites violence, their "Free Speech" is no longer their right.

I don't deny that the Airport screwed up big time, and agree they should have just patted her down and been done with it. That doesn't mean, however, that she went about her "protest" in the right manner either.

After doing a little research, it seems that Ms. T.P Alexander (not her real name) is no longer a doctor, but a wanna be novelist. I would bet this little escapade of hers was "research" for the book she hopes to have published.

It is overly simplistic to think this is "just" about her reciting the Constitution and then being arrested for it.

Before I started reading the article my first thought was "She's going to cite the one about illegal search and seizure"
Here's the thing, it is implied that the TSA staff is asking for permission to search each person that comes in, if you just plop your stuff down and go through the metal detector, you're essentially granting said permission.
If someone is being belligerent and refuses, that gives the staff probable cause that you may or may not be hiding something and is therefore a legal search.

As far as I'm concerned, she's trying to stir up s**t in a misguided attempt to protest the increased security

Did you graduate from Bill and Ted's School of Law?

Was it an excellent adventure?
