The article says "Could Become"

I was just posting what has actually happened.

I mean, hell, I "could become" a lottery winner this Wednesday (In I do, you'll hear the yellin' LOL).
You are correct that Exxon produces a source of a necessary commodity (energy). But what I said was "Follow the money". They make hundreds of times as much money as Al. They are heavily invested in a certain business model and warming or alternative energy could fuck up that model badly.
That is why they are feeding those who would debunk anything that might hurt their profit margin whether they tell the truth or not.

Oil is a necessity to civilization but not as THE major energy source. The stuff is way too important for other uses (petrochemicals, plastics etc) to burn it. No oil = no civilization as we know it.

The directors and investors of Exxon and other companies know that but don't care because they want their money now. They'll be dead and gone before it runs out and to hell with future generations.

Follow the money.

The recent snow storm is NOT proof of Climate Change. It doesnt matter that its "early" its the weather, its unpredictable. Thats why the whole study of "Climate Science" is a sham.

It should be further noted that 1-2% percent of scientist believe that E does NOT equal MC squared, since there is no unanimous consensus among physicist Einstein was wrong.

only USAmericans believe a) their politicians could be experts on world climate, b) climate change on a global change should be decided about by the USA c) they at any rate habe the privilege to ignore anything going on outside their borders ...
in case you missed to notice the global climate change has already begun, is already happening, will continue for another time - nobody can say exactly to what extent since world climate is a bit more complex than the local weather reports of some backwater hamlet

also nobody can say whether man-made warming because of large scale pollution runs parallel to a natural warmer period like some that happened before like in the high Middle Ages or contrary to a natural cooling phase like in during the 15th century or the 19th century at present (there are certain indicatiions the both might be possible)

BUT: nobody doubts that the amount of CO2 and certain other gases blown in to the world athmosphere IS harmful
AND: everybody (at least outside the USA) knows that the USA is the biggest polluter on earth, and refuses to change a thing, or to take responsibility for that (not just since Al Gore's times)
AND: it SUCKS to watch from outside the US that previous and obviously present and future US politicians are only focussed on this stupid Con vs. Lib game you seem to love to play instead of facing (and changing) the fact that the USA blocks any measures to do something against the man made part of climate change on a world wide scale

you can keep all our politician yokels (at best under lock and key) ...
but it's time to do something

oh I guess you might even call a government that pushes billions in wind and solar energy plants "radical" then ... even if it's a coalition of Conservatives and Liberals like the one here
the ultimate joke is: it pays - it's really BIG BUSINESS on a global scale ...

seems only the US industry isn't able to get it - and they seem not to give a damn that your own people don't get the jobs that come with it

so who's to blame? - I d say could be something you Americans could change in America for your own good and not only your own in this case

Do some homework, get a clue, etc.

Dear Edwynn,
I completely agree with you about detrimental influences of certain European banks on the world economy as well as the countries you mentioned (plus a few others) on arms trafficking - and I am the last one to be "proud" of those things because my home country (at least some ppl here ...) is deeply involved in it.

But this is a thread about global climate change where at least up until I posted my first post, most posters dealt with the subject as something like an internal US affair and something that only US politicians seem to have a view on that mattered - and both phenomena occured on previous threads before as, I guess, you and I well know.

And I give the proverbial fiddler's fart about your politicians since they all seem to agree in doing absolutely nothing about it and making it even look "responsible" - and if none of your fellow Americans dare to call that policy for what it is, detrimental not only to the USA but to all mankind I take the liberty to tell you what nobody seems to have the guts to do, in a way that hopefully tickles some sensitive spots I know many of you have, namely pride asf ...
If I have to be the one poking in some "dirt that's not my business" it's exactly my point to show you that it is because its a global business- and I would feel glad if other non-US posters from all the areas and countries you mentioned would tell their opinions about it too here - maybe it would show some that the issue is not a US only affair and your political leaders of whatever colour in the past were part of the problem, and not the solution, and the usual discussion of the topic and the style of discussion I found here in this thread and a few previous ones is only helpful to waste more time.

It's no use denying there is a climate change going on because it can be watched and measured everywhere (and there is NO doubt about it - it is not the same everywhere but this is just what watching and measuring is done for).
It is cheap to say there have been climate changes in the past because this is no news at all (at least for historians).
The percentage of man made influence in this one we see now may be a matter of debate but is not helpful since there is no doubt that there is such an influence.
The man made influence is something that can/could be influenced by appropriate measures like reduction of pollution (and not limited on that), it won't stop it now nor tomorrow but maybe in a way that your kids could profit from it (if you ask why should we without profiting ourselves ...? this is how responsible woodland management has been handled for centuries ... so not that "progressive" thinking either ...)
So why all the fuss about it? Because it will cost money (and make money too - see my previous post) ... this hurts of course but will hurt more if nothing at all is done - and doing nothing except preventing to get some international agreements for doing something seems to be whose policy?

So, dear Edwynn, I hope all your good reasoning might reach some, and my hitting pride might reach some others too, to hopefully use their brains for the purposes they are for (and maybe then use whatever suitable for kicking some asses that deserved it for years)
and to all: no hard feelings, but it might be just enough time already wasted

Since you have quite demonstrably missed out on the point here, I'm not sure as to why I should waste my time proceeding further.

You pick and choose as to the posts that support your agenda of "the ugly American," while overlooking the many posts presented alongside them that speak to the issue from a global perspective, quite unlike yourself. At least 70% of the posts on this topic speak to environmental concerns, not USA concerns, however much you completely missed that. If you want to argue politics, then just say so, but even there you show much ignorance.

One of my deutsche Sprache Lehrerin warned me that Germans were too caught up in themselves, and could only think of things in terms of "pride." I thought she was full of it; how could anybody think like that? But since that seems to be the focus of your argument here, ...
