His ludicrous idea of 3000-5000 trainers is shot down by Iraq so he claims credit for withdrawing all of the troops. As the shiites assume dominance and align themselves with Iran the area is now even more threatening to us than ever. Prediction: They will withhold any overt action until after Ramadan 2012. Then all hell breaks loose.

Iraq is a complete mess.  I don't think that Obama deserves blame for getting us out (especially when it was a campaign promise that he would) as much as Bush does for getting us into the mess in the first place.

I did, fella.  You're saying that Obama is leaving Iraq under unfavorable circumstances, and I said he's playing with the hand he was dealt.

mnottertail -> RE: LMAO. Oblama claims victory for diplomatic embarassment (10/22/2011 2:05:25 AM)

The diplomatic embarrassment fallout from an exchange like:

We would like to leave 3-5000 people in your country with guns and grenades and knives and bombs and would like a blanket of immunity from any crime they commit whatsoever, rape, killing, torture.........yanno the incendentals.......and if you do ANYFUCKINGTHING about it, we are right back in there, whadda ya say, write it up? Lets make a deal TODAY!!!

And them saying:

Well, you sort of fucked us with that for the last 9 years, done a hella job though, and raped and killed and tortured here, but I gotta tell ya, we are gonna have to take a pass on this one, as fine a deal as it is.....

Its not like somebody tried to blow the Japanese Prime Minister at a state dinner here...

No you didnt "FELLA". The post is about Obama pretending he accomplished something when he's been negoiating for 4 months to keep up to 5,000 troops their, and exits with the US being called an "occupier" and not even defending it. He was totally played, but he spins it into a success. It is the story of this administration starting with day one. "Jobs saved", summer of recovery, "bailed out the auto industry". All lies.

If that is the point and shoot of the thread, then its easy, you are wrong as usual. It was military lawyers that could not live without the immunity.

Obama: "Troops can leave Iraq proud of their success"

Sanity -> RE: LMAO. Oblama claims victory for diplomatic embarassment (10/22/2011 10:29:39 AM)

He was elected on promises to his base of withdrawing our troops from Iraq, he was fighting to keep them there but Iraq refused and demanded they be withdrawn, so now he absurdly boasts of this "success"

And his sycophants are blissfully unaware even after its pointed out to them

I dont know if its funny or sad

5) And his sycophants are blissfully unaware even after its pointed out to them

6) I dont know if its funny or sad

6) For you it is sad, the incomprehension, the world is swirling around you and you are hysterical because you are incapable of relevant, correct, or cogent thought.

1) All US Forces are mandated to withdraw from Iraqi territory by 31 December 2011 under the terms of a bilateral agreement signed in 2008.

2) He was negotiating to keep 3-5000 advisors there, to maintain a presence in the area (it has use in terms of some covert actions) and if there is a williwaw in Afghanistan. To hang the word fighting on that effort (wasn't very vigourous, no top guys in and out of there, handled with military negotiators...sort of like asking the Nazi leaders to broker a peace between Americans and Russians).

3) Iraq didn't refuse the idea of thos 3-5000 troops, they refused the idea of giving them blanket immunity from their laws. (As I said, you guys fucked this up and your going to be looking at some hard line governments there and some BIG DIRTY DIRTY GAMBOO with Kurds and civilly with muslims. Won't be surprised they go a little Iranian over there).

4) No 'absurd' nothin. Mission accomplished, your boy said it, they are comin home.

5) syncophants aren't blissfully unaware, teabaggers are fuckin' embarrassed and look like the fucking idiots they are.

So the 'embarrassment' is manufactured as a red herring to detract from the abject failures and wholesale inept of your parties body politik.

So, to recap:

War on terror:

1) Somali terrorists sieze american vessels, dead to a man. (Obama)
2) Osama bin Laden (terrorist) dead. (Obama)
3) Mohammar Khaddaffi (terrorist) dead. (Obama)
4) Other various and sundry terrorists dead. (Obama)
5) Leave Iraq and the blood and treasure we've spilled. (Obama)

Republicans:

0) .....

Did I count that right guys? Not sure, it was a complex calculation for one team side.

Northeastern Wisconsin families greet Iraq withdrawal news with joy, worry

For those who will help U.S. troops transition back to civilian life after the Iraq withdrawal, and for the families of the 92 military personnel from Wisconsin who died there, the battle will continue long after Jan. 1.

Friday’s news that President Barack Obama will pull all U.S. troops out of Iraq by the end of 2011 elicited joy from Fox Valley families of soldiers serving overseas, but many remain apprehensive, too.

Mary Bosveld of Grand Chute was rushing around Friday organizing a memorial walk that will be held today for her daughter, Rachel, who was killed in Iraq in 2003, when a television station called. A reporter asked her what she thought of the imminent end of the American deployment, and Bosveld was taken by surprise. Then she got excited.

“I’m glad to hear that (the war will be over),” she said. “I mean, eight years is just too long to be over there.”
Bosveld, who also has a son and daughter-in-law who served in Iraq, said she can imagine how happy families must be knowing their loved ones could be joining them for Thanksgiving or Christmas.

Though she understands the need to maintain some type of presence in Iraq, she is enthusiastic about Obama’s decision. “Bring our troops home!,” she said

Politesub53 -> RE: LMAO. Oblama claims victory for diplomatic embarassment (10/22/2011 11:24:19 AM)

Sanity and Wilbur seem to lie just to prove a point. The Iraqi prime minister wanted US troops to stay as trainers on the US equipment bought by Iraq. the stumbling block, as Ron said, was the subject of immunity.

"We are heading toward securing trainers and experts for the American weapons we purchased, but without immunity and without going to parliament."

Anyone who needs to verify the quote can google it in ten seconds.

There we have it, straight from the horses mouth. Iraq has purchased American goods, thereby creating American manufacturing jobs. They also want to have American troops showing them how to use them, thereby employing American troops.

mnottertail -> RE: LMAO. Oblama claims victory for diplomatic embarassment (10/22/2011 11:28:38 AM)

From your first Article:
Although the US is pulling out all troops, it will keep its embassy in Baghdad and two consulates. There will also be about 4,000-5,000 defence contractors, White House aides said.

A few US military personnel will be based in Iraq temporarily from time to time, just as they are in other countries with links to the US such as Egypt and Jordan, White House aides said. These would primarily be trainers helping out with new equipment bought from the US, such as F-16 fighters Iraq purchased last month.

Maliki, though he has been criticised in the past for being too close to Iran, had wanted to keep some US troops in Iran (sic, should be spelled with a q) to help train Iraqi security forces and to help in the event of a resurgence of sectarian violence. But he had to bow to pressure from pro-Iranian politicians and others in his coaliton government who wanted all US troops out.

From your second Article:
Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and other Iraqi officials expressed support of the idea, and they negotiated for months.

But talks ran aground over Iraqi opposition to giving American troops legal immunity that would shield them from Iraqi prosecution. Legal protection for U.S. troops has always angered everyday Iraqis who saw it as simply a way for the Americans to run roughshod over the country. Many Iraqi lawmakers were hesitant to grant immunity for fear of a backlash from constituents.

"When the Americans asked for immunity, the Iraqi side answered that it was not possible," al-Maliki told a news conference Saturday. "The discussions over the number of trainers and the place of training stopped. Now that the issue of immunity was decided and that no immunity to be given, the withdrawal has started."

^^^QED^^^

Thanks for playing, don't forget your parting gifts on the way out the door.
