Thompson, that would be very easy to substantiate, just talk to all the other people who knew him.

Those are the people who said he was an independant...like you.
The fact that you and he share the same political belief seems to bother you to no end...why is that?

When King Henry said that about his nemesis, archbishop Thomas Beckett, four knights interpreted it as a royal command, and assassinated Beckett.

My point is that public figures need to be careful about their "don't retreat; reload" rhetoric.

Somehow I dont forsee a repeat of that any time soon. Noticed, that was yanked very quickly after the incident.

In order for Palin's "crosshairs" to be a viable point of contention, in my opinion, other attacks would have to had taken place. I dont recall any, but its always a possibility.

The crosshairs was tasteless... and her back peddling was asinine.

I will add this....

I find this more disturbing than the map.

Darren Wesley Huff  has become something of a poster boy for the extreme right, and I mean EXTREME right wing, along the lines of Realone and others of his ilk.

http://patriotsheepdog.blogspot.com/2011/02/what-happened-to-constitution.html

This link came from a google search for Darren Wesley Huff.  http://www.google.com/webhp?hl=en#hl=en&sugexp=kjrmc&cp=18&gs_id=3&xhr=t&q=Darren+Wesley+Huff&qe=RGFycmVuIFdlc2xleSBIdWZm&qesig=OOXpe_rM8L6WJj5BBNyOjQ&pkc=AFgZ2tk2mk83PSYomSw1oOtgSXECzAJhVJv9JXBQwuiUF473r3bNVGypNjgr_u--gF5LSOR7QYtAYjYyvXnujZqBxR-C-TSc1A&pf=p&sclient=psy-ab&site=webhp&source=hp&pbx=1&oq=Darren+Wesley+Huff&aq=0&aqi=g1g-v2&aql=f&gs_sm=&gs_upl=&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.,cf.osb&fp=a4183349b9a276ea&biw=1152&bih=678

I agree that birthers are right wingers, history has proven this.  But I posted something about this guy back when he first made public his plans to take the courthouse in support of someone that was a part of the "Sovereign Citizen" movement.  I am not about to search through a year of forum topics to find the pertinent thread.

Suffice it to say this guy is too far right wing for the great majority of right wing conservatives.

It's not just the cross hairs:

What the Right Gains From Poisoning Our Political Discourse and Inspiring Violence

Gifford's shooting, and the death and wounding of so many who came to meet with her, are just the latest example of ideologically-motivated bloodshed.

...The fact is, it has been the right's goal to poison our political discourse for years. Remember the notorious "GOPAC Memo" back in the 1990's, created for the Republicans' leadership training institute and endorsed by Newt Gingrich? Titled "Language: A Key Mechanism of Control," in it, candidates are instructed in what words to use when defining their opponents (i.e., liberals). "These are powerful words that can create a clear and easily understood contract," the memo said. "Apply these to the opponent, their record, proposals, and their party" (in other words, demonize them).

Among them: intolerant lie pathetic radical sick steal traitors. Gingrich and his allies deliberately set out to employ toxic language against their opponents, and are still doing it. They will say anything to get a vote, especially now that the angriest and most irrational so often make up a majority of those who bother to go to the polls. This kind of talk is part and parcel of their strategy, and no matter what motivated the Tucson killings, it needs to stop.

Their lock and load rhetoric is reinforced by the rambling ranks of those who go on the Internet to spout any conspiracy theory, distortion of history or outright lie that helps them make it through the night. Add, too, the men and women of radio and television, the Limbaugh's, Beck's, and their ilk who use the airwaves as a cudgel, battering viewers and listeners with the certainty of their illogic, their thinly veiled messages of bigotry and meretricious embrace of Constitution, religion, flag and family.

All of them will huff and puff that this is an isolated incident by a madman that cannot be blamed on their bombast and bluster. But let's call it out for what it is, let's debate what in our gut we know to be true: even if it was not their intent, it's likely the words of the right on radio and TV and in the books they publish spurred on the man who killed two and wounded six in a Knoxville, Kentucky, church in July 2008, and the murderer of George Tiller, one of the few doctors in America who still performed late-term abortions for women with problem pregnancies whose health was at stake from life-threatening complications, or whose infants would be born dead or dying. Their invective, whether inadvertently or not, has encouraged the vandalism and threats faced by so many of our candidates and elected officials, including the now desperately wounded Congresswoman Giffords. Her shooting, and the death and wounding of so many who came to meet with her are just the latest example of ideologically-motivated bloodshed.

I have to remind myself that much of what you posted about it the political fringe... and those who seek nothing more than greedy pursuits. There can be no doubt Palin is swinging on that edge... and Newt was playing up to that demographic. For many in power, its a game. For those who are not in power, its their belief. Politicians play to that belief, until they get the power.

ETA

Maybe its just my own ignorance, but I prefer to believe the moderates of all parties are closer in beliefs that many want them to realize. The games began years ago, and until the public stops buying into the con, it will continue.

http://www.juancole.com/2011/01/naw-theres-been-no-right-wing-extreme-rhetoric.html

Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, and other far right-wing demagogues have been quick to defend themselves from the charge of fostering a climate of poisonous political hatred in the United States, in the aftermath of the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Gifford and the killing of Federal Judge John Roll, along with the injuring or killing of 10 other victims.

Just so we are clear, Glenn Beck playfully spoke on his radio show of murdering Michael Moore with his own hands. Rush Limbaugh suggested that Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi were worse than Middle Eastern terrorists and that maybe our Pentagon has the wrong people in its sights. Ann Coulter expressed the wish that Timothy McVeigh had bombed the New York Times building rather than the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. These are major media personalities with millions of followers, who have been made multi-millionaires by corporations precisely because they routinely authorize the intimidation of workers, ordinary people, and thinkers who challenge the political status quo. So let us survey their hate speech, which in a civilized country would make responsible businesses ashamed to employ them and a conscientious public ashamed to listen to them.

[audio/video clips]

BECK: “Hang on, let me just tell you what I’m thinking. I’m thinking about killing Michael Moore, and I’m wondering if I could kill him myself, or if I would need to hire somebody to do it. No, I think I could. I think he could be looking me in the eye, you know, and I could just be choking the life out — is this wrong? I stopped wearing my What Would Jesus — band — Do, and I’ve lost all sense of right and wrong now. I used to be able to say, “Yeah, I’d kill Michael Moore,” and then I’d see the little band: What Would Jesus Do? And then I’d realize, “Oh, you wouldn’t kill Michael Moore. Or at least you wouldn’t choke him to death.” And you know, well, I’m not sure.”

Limbaugh: “It could well be, ladies and gentlemen, that we’re fighting the wrong enemy in the Middle East. Maybe the real terrorists that we face are on Capitol Hill. I mean, really, who’s doing as good a job to undermine what this country stands for as the terrorists? ‘Dingy’ Harry, Nancy Pelosi. I mean, look, if they call us ‘hostage takers’ and ‘gangsters,’ then why can’t we call them what they are? They are terrorists. They certainly seem suicidal. Look at what they’re doing. Look at what they did. They knew they were going to get shellacked in this election and they did it! They knew they were gonna lose. And they want to take us with them.”

Ann Coulter, in an interview in The New York Observer:
‘ Then she said: “My only regret with Timothy McVeigh is he did not go to the New York Times Building.”

I told her to be careful.

“You’re right, after 9/11 I shouldn’t say that,” she said, spotting a cab and grabbing it.’

Coulter added in an interview with Right Wing News
“RE: McVeigh quote. Of course I regret it. I should have added, “after everyone had left the building except the editors and reporters.”

Limbaugh responded to his critics, saying “Do not kid yourself. What this is all about is shutting down conservative media. That’s what this is all about. Shutting down any and all political opposition.”

Limbaugh is admitting that the only way his version of the Republican Party can succeed politically is to engage in hate speech and whip up dangerous emotions, and he considers any pressure to back off these ugly techniques of demagoguery to be a “shutting down” of conservatism. That is, were he to have to fight fair, he would inevitably lose out to Democratic voices of reason.

No wonder the Right is pushing back so hard for its right to put people in the cross-hairs.

Once again, (what is this the 4th or 5th time?)I look at surveys every week in my work. sometimes, I do it every day. It is NOT a fucking surveyor's symbol.

tazzygirl -> RE: Armed righty tries to take over court house,to oust President Obama? (10/27/2011 5:35:59 AM)

How many hunters are there out there?

How many years has Palin bragged about her hunting skills?

All the rifle shooters, hunters, military men I know all agree.... those can be crosshairs Sanity.

Now, how many people are surveyors?

How many know those symbols?

You are being intentionally led.

Does it feel good?

Hillwilliam -> RE: Armed righty tries to take over court house,to oust President Obama? (10/27/2011 5:38:04 AM)

Actually, it's almost identical to the recticle on my Redfield 3-7X scope. There have been a lot of deer and a few antelope seen thru that scope.

Sanity -> RE: Armed righty tries to take over court house,to oust President Obama? (10/27/2011 5:43:11 AM)

Yes they are surveyor symbols, anyone can look it up. [;)]

However, Dems have used maps with bulls eyes on them before...

Oh dear oh fear oh dear, you claim that the hated and despised Sarah Palin who so many leftists have openly discussed raping etc has bragged about hunting skills...

Oh my, how terrible, she is a known hunter... who uses surveyor symbols on maps!!!

But Roseanne Barr, who has openly advocated mass murder... and who no leftist that I know of has condemned her or her actual rhetoric advocating mass murder... has yet to draw any condemnation from you

In fact leftists giggle about it, pick it up and repeat it

But... thats nothing. Its funny, its a joke... [8|]

There are no rifle scopes that look anything like that, you are lying to yourselves.

Well, Sanity, Assuming you bothered to personally check the recticles on all the 10,000+ or so makes and models of rifle scopes that have been sold over the years, you obviously missed the early '70's model Redfield Widefield 3-7x.

I dont have to look it up. I have over 100 various and sundry surveys and plats right here in the office.

Not to mention the image is quite common in video games, more than likely where Palin got the idea as she has been shown not to be much of a hunter.
