Well golly gee. I guess your side's point is moot since here it is 7:04 am and the first topic mentioned on the national news was that the tear gas and such was used by police after "peacefully gathering protesters" started throwing rocks and bottles at cops.

Peaceful gathering my ass. As I said, the "potential" for violence in large groups of people when it's already confirmed that 31% believe in using said violence is more than enough reason to order a crowd to disperse. But hey...I kinda just wish the cops would have waited until the riot got going full-swing, then they could have let the bullets fly and thinned the "stupid" herd a bit.


So by your logic, if the police think a group might become violent they are allowed to violently break up a peacefull assembly and if the attacked civilians defend themselves that justifies the police's violence?

Am I the only one that sees a problem with this?

I can't believe this is one of the right-wing talking points regarding the Oakland fiasco, especially in the context that not long ago their own protesters were marching while armed, condoning violence and talking of a second American revolution, and carrying violent signs and iconography. It's amazing they can be regarded as both "violent thugs" as said by right-wing media and dirty hippies all at the same time.

Oh, I'm aware and expected nothing different myself. I just find it amazing they're doing it and being successful. Call me out on my last remaining shards of optimism, but I would have expected mainstream Americans' bullshit detectors to have exploded by now. Seriously, we're in territory now that would make George Orwell take a step back and say "damn son, I thought Stalin had it good!".

Yeah, one of those "corporations" is called the military. And the catch to your point is you have to WORK to earn those programs. The companies aren't just going to point at Mr. Random Protester and say "hey, would YOU like free tuition?"



And it has already been pointed out to you that the majority of these protesters are employed and came out on their time off from work.

It's interesting to note that I didn't see you on here complaining of the teabagger protests.

errant ... take a look at the sequence of pics I submitted in the Oakland thread last night and then read the remarks about the aftermath pictures... Some of these guys are so frozen in their abject prejudice you could walk up and take a louisville to their head and they'd still type what Limbaugh downloaded to em at lunch.
   In the pics, which are in chronological order. The second shot I think shows the cops themselves hurling sealed garbage cans about in a deliberate effort to make a mess.
   these dude just aren't breathing real fucking 02.

You are referencing errantgeek's comment about "the right's" "own protesters".  The only "right protesters" in recent memory are the TEA parties.

No, neither of you used the term "TEA partiers".  He used insulting, denigrating phrases, and you knew exactly who he meant.  As we all did.

Are you saying you meant some other recent "right" group of protesters?
