Status: offline 		OAKLAND -- Seeking to cool the violent tone set by Tuesday night's street clashes with Occupy Oakland protesters, police pulled down barricades Wednesday near City Hall, dramatically reduced their presence and said they would allow nightly demonstrations in the area until 10 p.m.

Hundreds of protesters responded Wednesday night by packing the amphitheater at Frank Ogawa Plaza, where they voted to hold a citywide general strike on Nov. 2, when workers and students will be urged to stay home to show support of the Occupy movement.

A grassy section of the plaza - the site of an elaborate encampment that police dismantled Tuesday morning - remained fenced off for cleaning, though not for long. By 7 p.m., the fence had been torn down as the lawn filled with protesters chanting, "Whose park? Our park!" Police officers kept their distance.

from what I have been getting from various occupy sites... go to occupy (whatever city) dot org for streaming videos and chat...Olson is in stable condition.  The expect he will live but don't know if there will be any brain damage because he has been in a chemically induced coma.

Status: offline 		I've been looking on a few of the boards used by ex military and ex marines (yeah, I know there's no ex marines) are PISSED. Evidently the story is (I havent seen confirmation) that the cop aimed for his head.

The police cannot call out the military. The govorner declares a state of emergency and then activtes the national guard.

so i wouldn't be putting them on no fucking pedestal.

Jarheads do not need pedestals...

Status: offline 		it's because it is a very clear difference between who he is and the way the OWS protestors are portrayed by the right. they're portrayed as dirty jobless hippies who don't contribute, and i think it's fair to say that the military contributes quite a bit in their own capacity.

it's not a "mantra,"  it's a statement of who he is in spite of the way he and others have been portrayed.

It also doesn't surprise me in the least that the OWS protesters and LIBERALS on here are blaming that alleged Iraqi Veteran's injuries on police brutality without showing what precipitated the alleged police brutality.

Not always the National guard alone...on occasion regulars can be used if needed.

But I wonder about your Patriot act in this respect and how it can be abused.

Status: offline 		Well, considering BART was "shut down" last night to prevent protesters from marching on the SF camp in solidarity, I seriously doubt this is going to ease tensions very much.
