One of the first things he did was increase military spending, in what way is that helping the west or any Canadians at all for that matter. Christ on a pizza he was salivating he was to eager to send troops out to fight. He's a more intelligent Bush ffs.

As I said before, he is not perfect and I dont agree with everything he is done but quite frankly, i dont see how increasing military spending (considering how badly equiped our military was) is anything positive or negative to any particular province. That is not imo, a west or east thing. Btw, he was an economist and never wanted to be a politician in the first place.

So you don't think that increasing military spending rather than using the money locally is a bad thing? Face it, he did that because he couldn't WAIT to send troops out. Oh and saying that he never wanted to be a politician does NOT make me feel better about him being our PM. If that's the case he should have stayed an economist.

Considering how badly the Liberals gutted the military budget??? Didnt our troops go to Afghanistan and they didnt even have proper camouflage uniforms, we had to ask the Americans for theirs. Yes we have a friggin military, its part of being in NATO isnt it? You cant expect our troops to even defend themselves or anyone else in the various countries they go to without the proper equipment. If i recall correctly, increasing military spending was one of Harpers election promises when he was first elected.

eta- I would rather Canada have an economist as PM than a friggin lawyer!

Not exactly accurate. he started out a member of the Young Liberals Club in high school, and switched to the PCs when he was 20 or 21 and was working for an MP when he was 26 and became the Reform Party's chief policy officer at 28 and first ran for Parliament when he was 29.

He has a degree in economics, but he's never been an economist. In fact he's never really been anything but a politician.

I know he worked in the Reform Party with Preston Manning but he didnt want to run for office, he just wanted to work in the background and behind the scenes. The work he did there was using his economics degree to help formulate policies and such, that is what i meant. The fact that he didnt want to be an elected politician and run for office is why imo, he was so wooden in public in his early days. It wasnt something he was comfortable with cuz that wasnt his original goal in life.

So he was forced to run for office? That doesn't help change my opinion of him in the least. The last thing we need is a leader who doesn't even want the job.

Originally no, he didnt consider it, no, not forced, he was talked into running. He was the one formulating the policies and he was the one explaining them to the Party so it made sense that he be the one to explain them to the country as a politician running for office.

I am not trying to change your opinion, you dont like the guy any more than I like any of the Liberal leaders from the last 100 years..

I think he has done a good job overall and if Canadians didnt think so as well, he wouldnt have held together a minority govt for as long as he had and then won a majority govt in the last election.

But one thing about Canada, our elections are short! Our govt can get back to work fast. Americans get so tied up for what, years? The US election is a year away and they are already campaigning, making election promises..

Oh you can be sure I was thinking, but here is what I was thinking....let's be friendly and humorous...and get folks to laugh a little bit.Now if you were thinking something else( like for instance...that I don't think before posting ) that is on you and your lack of a sense of humor.
On the other hand...if perhaps you are only joshing with me and I have misconstrued it than I do apologize. So as long as we are clear....I was being funny and nice( it is sort of what I do and who I am) if you were being the same...all good,if not I have two words for you...and they ain't "oh Canada "

I very much support the OWS movement but it is people like this guy who spout off crazy nonsense that are not helping.

Rule... think of it this way... most people have not seen this open and free speech in their lifetime unless they're at least 45 years old it's sort of an OD for a lot of people. You wouldn't BELIEVE the shit that got into the public dialogue in the 1960s as I spent my first 10 years ...  But in the end, Vietnam got the attention it needed to get, women got a very new and different sense of themselves, lots of things happened ... despite the cuckoo shit... Also think about this... People show up @ Tea Party Rallies with racist posters, hate stuff, etc. They unto themselves haven't kept the Tea Party from being heard.

It doesn't matter ... because they are a relatively static rank number-wise... they will continue to shrink as the numbers of people who can understand the more complicated but clear image emerging..... 20% is 20% and just cause it's loud, doesn't mean it'll will continue to be heard as time rolls on....

Don't worry about it, it's been a long time since we've chatted. You just aren't used to my humor any more.
