Just caught this today, very well-said.

Except for the fact people who continue to "not get it" or "don't see a single message" will continue to do so despite things like this video...because they don't want to.

I very much support the OWS movement but it is people like this guy who spout off crazy nonsense that are not helping.

Ironically, I didn't really hear anything that was "crazy nonsense"...his point is the media, government and corporations collude to form a media-industrial complex, wherein corporations co-opt the government and use the media, also corporate-owned in America, as a tool to influence public opinion in a corporate-friendly direction while at the same time influencing government to enact corporate-friendly policy.

To illustrate the existence of this media-industiral complex, he likened it to a three-card monte game. In which, corporations and rich plutocrats are the dealers, and the media acts as the ringer (or shills, if you prefer) to slander and discredit anyone who points out the game itself is rigged, and to give an illusion of fairness and credibiility to the dealer. In this metaphor, government and its legal ability to use coercive force is the muscle, that strongarms people who call out the game being rigged despite the ringers' interference.

He closes with a warning to the movement, to not allow the corporations or the media to co-opt the movement -- to go with the three-card monte metaphor, to buy off the mark or bring them in as a shill themselves.

he's pretty much nailed the fucker. watching the bullshit used by the anti side has been fucking hilarious, even funnier than the bullshit trotted out against the tea party.

the last bit is the most telling, a lot of fuckers are trying to co-opt it already, trying to frame it in a left/right continuum. if the ows fucks can prevent that, they have a chance, if, on the other hand, they fall for the bribes they're fucked. they will become as fucking irrelevant as the tea party is now.

that's kind of how i feel, that's why i don't fucking vote. if i vote, then i have recognized the legitimacy of the system, the process, and the government that results from them, because they are all just parts of the whole.

He's not trying to change the minds of those people. He's saying that he's glad that those people are being exposed. for what they are.

Edited to add: Those people who "don't get it" in the media, specifically, because they have a platform and they are using it to out themselves as ignorant and best, and compliant at worst.

Awesome awesome video Violet and I agree with everything he says. Using 3 card monty as an analogy is spot on.

It makes me cheer that people have finally gotten fed up enough to stand up and say "ENOUGH! things have got to change!"

you dumb fuck, you don't have a piece on the chessboard. voting is just a fucking song and dance, its just smoke and mirrors baby, all just smoke and mirrors. your choice is a hobson's choice, what are you offered? corporate shill #1 or corporate shill#2. all you can influence is what particular companies' will dictate the agenda for the next few years. not a fucking one of them works for you or gives a flying fuck about you.

you notice that mr. change-we-can-believe-in hasn't really done a fuck of a lot different from the previous guys. well that's because he works for the same fucking people, he's a fucking puppet, nothing more. just look at the fucking health care sham, surprisingly enough it was exactly what the fucking insurance and pharma industries wanted, and not what anybody else wanted. why the fuck do you think that was?

if you think you can make a difference by voting then you're dumber than a fucking stump.

No tj what seems to have happened is that you have become convinced the game is so rigged that you have chosen not to play, did you miss the announcement that this is the only game in town.

well,.. thats the thing.. things have got to change.. sure.. but change how? It will be wall street and Washington that might change a few minor things and make you think things will be better but the change will be rigged too... but the public will go away happy and saying they won...

no..
a) I cant vote in the US since i am not an American (but I wouldnt even if i was)
b) You can vote with your feet and leave town... Radical thought, i know but some Americans actually do that!

but hey, if it makes ya feel all glowy better to vote and play in the rigged game and delude yourself, then go for it (and then bitch for 4 more years, then vote again, then bitch for 4 more years, then vote again..)

you're right, it is the only game, the thing you're missing is that you don't have a seat at the fucking table.

Maybe so but I still find it good that people are finally pissed off enough to not accept the status quo. imo that's a good thing. They may get little done but acting like good little sheep gets NOTHING changed.

tj444, your assessment seems to be that nothing we do matters. But we CAN make changes. When I get on the bus, I don't have to sit in the back anymore because decades ago, someone did something about that. People who did peaceful protests and marches ended up changing actual policy. The PEOPLE.

It used to be that abortion was illegal, that gays couldn't marry anywhere or serve openly in the military, you get the point. These things didn't chance because the shadowy Illuminati's heart grew 3 sizes that day. WE made it happen.
