Bursitis is an inflammation or degeneration of the sac-like structures that form in utero to protect the soft tissues from underlying bony prominences [1].

Septic bursitis refers to inflammation of the bursa that is due to infection, typically resulting from bacterial inoculation that is either direct (eg, puncture wound), spread from nearby soft tissues (eg, cellulitis), or hematogenous (eg, bacterial endocarditis). Much less commonly, mycobacteria, fungi, or algae are the causative agents.

Now, john, you tell me... is it the bursitis that is infected, or the bursa?

My trainer heavily emphasizes lunges, both using weights and incorporating balance training. My understanding was that these strengthened a lot of the same muscles. Would that also irritate your hip?

johnb81 -> RE: Body stuff, NOT just weight! The whole nine yards. (10/30/2011 4:48:43 PM)

Lunges are good, the main difference being they involve a huge number of stabiliser muscles compared to the squat and as such you can't hit the large muscle groups with as much weight. Bit like the difference between dumbbell and barbell bench press. You won't see the same glute development from lunges as you would from squats, which is the whole point.

However in defence of lunges (and your trainer), they are great for overall coordination and hamstrings if you get a good stretch. Really good if you do a lot of sports.

Ladies, if any of you have some advice I would be happy to hear it. I had a tumor in my ankle area that had grown down into my Achilles tendon. Spent 6 months in a complete leg cast, 6 months in a brace, had to learn to walk again. Now my problem is, I can walk as long as I wear high tops to support it, but can no longer do anything that can cause the tendon to pop. No climbing, running, skipping, lunges etc. I walk an average of 4 miles a day, but need something else to help tone my lower half. I was referred to a sports doctor but without insurance can't afford to go. Any suggestions on anything low impact that would help? Oh, I do love to swim but don't have access to a pool right now.

That's funny to me when you say you don't like your B cups. When I was a 38DD I had mine reduced to a 34B. I absolutely loved them. I never felt so amazing about myself. I'm more of a C cup now. Blah. I want my B back.

I thought surgery of this kind was quite astronomical.  Was that an expensive procedure ( as I think you couldn't get that on any health ticket ?)

agirl

My insurance paid for it because they were waay too large for my frame, made me bend forward causing neck and back aches and headaches and a permanent indentation in my shoulders from my bra straps.

I don't think I was ever as happy as the day I was told I could get the surgery.

Total cost to insurance was about $10,000 and I was under the knife for about 4 hours due to the massive amount that was removed.

Fuck, just fuck.....lol

If you're content and have nothing to learn, no questions to ask then that's superb, Nine. Quite a lot of people DO have the odd question about physical stuff.

The whole point of this thread was to do without the *sue me* stuff.  Seriously, you have your thing going on successfully, maybe you can help other people out?

Delilya, have you tried wearing ankle weights?

For some, it's not about listening to other people, it's self-motivated.

I have to say that despite looking stuff up for myself, and without any other diagnosis beyond *bursitis*, I'm looking for further hints, tips or aspects to research.

It's annoying . I was so happy on my cycle today, it was such a breeze, up hills were nothing, I'm beginning to feel more at home on two wheels than two feet. But I can't cycle around with a wieldy and heavy banjo on my back, it's just not practical. The banjo weighs as much as a toddler but is less erganomic....lol

I stopped running years ago, so if I irritated the sacs at that point, why the fuck don't they get better after years of low, to no trauma?.....lol

Kettlebells.

I'm curious about that.... as they are basically just weights. Without any clarification that means little. I've done kettlebell classes and a big part of it was the kettle bell swing, which was a pretty hefty amount of legwork.

Can you be more specific?

Not sure about that as they might strain the ankle more and especially the joint, how about wading in water? Can be done in a bath tub, not too pleasant as they are small but fuck pleasant if it comes to mobility

tazzygirl -> RE: Body stuff, NOT just weight! The whole nine yards. (10/30/2011 6:13:16 PM)

Was thinking with the high tops and 1lb ankle weights.... but you are right... she may not be able too.

lazarus1983 -> RE: Body stuff, NOT just weight! The whole nine yards. (10/30/2011 6:14:30 PM)

Yep, I'm referring to the basic two handed swing movement. If done correctly, you're bending at the waist, with very little flexion in the legs.

Wanting to sort out physical problems doesn't mean that people are slavishly following a *body fascist* ...but they often have helpful advice.

I'm pretty sure that there's a relatively straightforward solution to my hip thing so am quite pleased to hear from anyone that has either more, or different, information than I've come across thus far.

I'm not happy with painful hips as it hinders walking, a pretty fundamental thing that I have to do, like it or not, every day. If your beer belly had a migraine all the time, you might want to fix it too ;)
