That episode was pretty intense. My pretty one and I had a lively debate re Shane after it was over. I understand why he did that act of  desperation, that it was a last ditch act and I think he's  now full of self loathing and that's what the hairclipping was about. Also going on in the bathroom was a sort of rebirth and crossing over into full warrior mode, so to speak.   She believes he's always been morally ambiguous, even before the world changed, and she is less understanding than I. And she thinks the hairclipping is just a symptom of his deterioration, that he's coming more and more unhinged. She referred to it as " a Taxi Driver moment", though she also thinks he was also simply just trying to cover up the spot where Otis yanked his hair, bolstering her argument of his iffy character.  I'm wondering whether Otis ever shows up as a walker and they see that he was shot in the leg. But then I've  been long  awaiting the one-handed redneck to make a reappearance and that hasn't happened.

And I didn't see it coming. I'm about 50 - 50 with seeing things coming in movies, TV, etc.......

tolovetolaugh -> RE: The Walking Dead (11/2/2011 5:07:41 PM)

I felt the hair shaving was to hide the bald patch left in his head from the altercation.

LillyBoPeep -> RE: The Walking Dead (11/2/2011 9:00:07 PM)

yeah that's what i thought -- he did it to keep it from being noticed and someone from asking about it -- and probably to keep himself from seeing it anymore and having to remember where it came from.

that would be scary, and i wonder what that would be like -- to come face to face with a "it's him or me" situation? how would you respond?

nyfootslave -> RE: The Walking Dead (11/2/2011 10:03:25 PM)

Get on it! :P
& yeah Shane is def an ass lol

nyfootslave -> RE: The Walking Dead (11/2/2011 10:11:49 PM)

Feel bad for poor poor Otis :( He was only trying to make things right and risk himself for the boy. Wouldn't it be cool if Zombie Otis came back to kick Shane's ass?!?! :D

MissKittyDeVine -> RE: The Walking Dead (11/3/2011 6:31:17 AM)

I don´t think there was enough left of poor Otis to come back! My guess is that Shane clipped his hair to hide the patch that was ripped out, but that you can also read the act in a metaphorical sense. Also perhaps we are meant to question, what would we do in such a situation? Would we really band together, or would it be every man for himself? I think that he will get away with it, in the chaos in which they live there will be no evidence of what he did.

I´d also noticed that the story is progressing much more slowly this season and was a bit frustrated by it, until I figured that the first season only had 6 episodes; this one I think is longer, so they have more time to develop the storylines.

LillyBoPeep -> RE: The Walking Dead (11/3/2011 7:39:22 AM)

i feel bad for Shane because he's the one who is always in the situation of making the really complicated decisions. he's a more flawed and more real character, at least to me. sure he lied and told (oh what's her name...) that her husband was dead, but he thought, at the time, it was the best way to get her to leave a dangerous place. and with the way the military were shooting live and dead people alike, it was pretty likely to think they'd go in his hospital room and kill him, if the zombies didn't get him.

there's always a lot of "what on earth are you supposed to do?" associated with Shane -- he's the character who i think is easiest to actually feel for and relate to, because if the world ended, i believe "right" and "wrong" would become a heck of a lot more flexible for the vaaaast majority of people.

the lead character is your typical idealistic hero, Shane is more of an anti-hero. He's not archetypical, he's not always "liberty and justice for all," but neither is real life.

MissKittyDeVine -> RE: The Walking Dead (11/3/2011 10:17:19 AM)

Yes, if you read into it Shane is a more complex character than just the bad guy. Rick is the goody-goody family man, but I think that may be tested and that he may be forced to make decisions along the lines of what Shane did to survive. How long can someone stay idealistic under extreme pressure? It will be interesting to see if Rick develops more of an ambiguous character as time goes on.

nyfootslave -> RE: The Walking Dead (11/3/2011 10:55:16 AM)

Yeah I too believe that him shaving his hear was to hide the patch but I'm curious if he really can get away with it. Yeah there may be no evidence but as you saw, his face/emotions were giving were on 10th gear, it wasn't just fear, it was guilt, worry, and much more. it looks like his conscience was eating at him a bit as well which makes you wonder if he'll say something or do something to give it away.
I agree with you both on Shanes character and how very true to life he is. He's always involved in these sort of plot twists and keeps me soo interested on what situations he'll get himself into next.
We'll find out what happens next in 3 more days woohoo *does victory dance in the middle of wall st* .......I'm such a goof lol

LillyBoPeep -> RE: The Walking Dead (11/4/2011 10:25:18 PM)

i think eventually he'll talk about it. he'll have to tell someone. gah, something like that would definitely eat at a person.

!can't wait till sunday!

nyfootslave -> RE: The Walking Dead (11/4/2011 11:03:45 PM)

Yeah that's what I'm guessing. I think at some point he will. I'm sure they'll show how it eats away at him. Lol I too can't wait for sunday night! :P

Ruas -> RE: The Walking Dead (11/5/2011 6:29:23 PM)

Daryl is the one I would like to see more of. I think he could be the real hero.

LillyBoPeep -> RE: The Walking Dead (11/5/2011 6:42:47 PM)

I like Daryl, too - I'm also waiting to see if they every run into Merle again

Endivius -> RE: The Walking Dead (11/5/2011 8:39:28 PM)

I dunno why he waited so long to shoot the fat guy

MissKittyDeVine -> RE: The Walking Dead (11/6/2011 11:43:19 AM)

Daryl is the character who´s developed the most so far from the apparent ´bad guy´. I´d like to see Dale and Lori be more interesting, so far they´ve been pretty one-dimensional and I just can´t see Lori as someone that would be the centre of a triangle. My suspicion is that when Rick finds out, we will see some changes in his character (watch out for the symbolism if he abandons his sheriff´s uniform!), also that Shane´s determination to get the medical supplies was because he sees himself as the ´real´ father.

LillyBoPeep -> RE: The Walking Dead (11/6/2011 12:02:19 PM)

i think shane is probably still trying to prove himself to lori and win her back. he said he was going to leave, but i don't think he actually will.

i'm also interested to see if Rick ever finds Morgan again. he's always broadcasting messages to him via the walkie, i wonder if morgan hears and can't reply for some reason, or what's going on there.

TheFireWithinMe -> RE: The Walking Dead (11/6/2011 12:08:29 PM)

FR

I have avoided reading this thread because I'm downloading Season 1 as I type this. For those who are watching/have watched Season 2, do you think it's as good? In other words will I want to download it?

LillyBoPeep -> RE: The Walking Dead (11/6/2011 12:32:10 PM)

i think the first season is a little better so far -- but like someone else said, the first season was only 6 episodes so it was a little faster paced. the second season seems to be soooo sloooow by comparison, but it's only what... 3 episodes in? and it's not bad, just slower. a lot of the characters are rounding out the season, so that's nice.
it's hard to say. =p haha
