i feel bad for Shane because he's the one who is always in the situation of making the really complicated decisions. he's a more flawed and more real character, at least to me. sure he lied and told (oh what's her name...) that her husband was dead, but he thought, at the time, it was the best way to get her to leave a dangerous place. and with the way the military were shooting live and dead people alike, it was pretty likely to think they'd go in his hospital room and kill him, if the zombies didn't get him. there's always a lot of "what on earth are you supposed to do?" associated with Shane -- he's the character who i think is easiest to actually feel for and relate to, because if the world ended, i believe "right" and "wrong" would become a heck of a lot more flexible for the vaaaast majority of people. the lead character is your typical idealistic hero, Shane is more of an anti-hero. He's not archetypical, he's not always "liberty and justice for all," but neither is real life.
