The plot has just slowed to a halt since the farm. 3 episodes of farm could easily be 1 episode.

The whole farm plotline is making me lose interest in the show.

Has anyone else commenting on this thread ever read the graphic novel (because it is SO not a comic book. nothin funny in it at all..)?

I read up on some of the plot via Wikipedia to get a future glimpse, but it's already strayed so much, it's impossible to tell what will happen next. In the comic, Oatis wasn't killed until much later and neither was Sofia.

True that, but then again, many written (or drawn) stories vary from their cinemafied forms. (Ask all the Anne Rice fans who went, 'WTF? HUH?!?' when they combined elements from TWO of her novels to make the movie "Queen Of The Damned"..)
The Walking Dead story in both cases is not supposed to be so much about constant exciting action happening so much as it is about the difficult interrelationships between the characters, and tries to answer the question of what otherwise oridinary people will do when placed in impossible situations. I for one will not be losing interest in the show because I give a damn about these characters and want to see how the whole thing plays out. But hey, that's just me..

I haven't read the grraphic novel, but I want to. I have a feeling it'll be like Watchmen; glad to have seen the movie first so I could appreciate them inn different ways. Daryl's character isn't in the graphic novel (though Reedus has apparnenntly been tryinng to get him added in :p), and I've unnderstood from others that it's pretty divergent in other ways, too.

Anyway, I'm not bored of the farm for the lack of action - if anything lulls in action make the intermittent action more exciting sometimes. Just some of the character development seems either overdone, or not ennough. I dunno... haha
I'll be happy when they move on, or whatever happens, just so something changes.

I like to watch the development of the characters, I'm just irritated by some of them (Lori and Dale most particularly). The well-itentioned old man is an interesting charachter. He's in a very complicated form of denial about the family/friends in the bar, about the state of the world since he's so separate from it. He doesnn't understannd what he's sending the group back to, by being so insistent that they leave. He's totally "apart."

I think Rick had Herschel just about talked into whether or not they could stay (remember when he asked Rick to accompany them when they went and fetched those last two walkers out of the 'trap' place? Herschel said something to the effect "if your people are going to stay here, this is part of what you're going to have to do"), until Shane flipped his nut and decided to storm the barn situation (which might have been rough, but was the correct course. the barn situation was dangerous. now perhaps it's been shoved down Herschel's throat how the walkers are really dead and beyond help). When all those stunned people come back to themselves, how will any of them feel? I also think that Rick's going to get a rash of shit for Sophia's death (they were already kinda blaming him for letting her get separated from him that day, and now this..).

Rob, that's not really any of our responsibility. It's difficult to have a thread like this without spoilers. People can only talk vaguely for so long. So just don't read it util you've seen the current episode.

Anyway, yeah I caught that Herschel was leaning towards letting them stay, but he was still cut off from the reality of the actual risk the barn posed. Or the resources lost feeding good chickens to the walkers. Now at least he should be aware that they are dead and are very dangerous. I'm expecting that they'll have to leave after Shane's shenanigans, but I agree it was the right course of action... while it was Herschel's land and Herschel's rules, it was a risk to his own family that he was in denial about.

I think the only person who'll give Rick shit is Rick himself (and maybe Shane). He's felt ultimately responsible for her since he lost her in the woods. He's blamed himself the entire time while others have defended him. If Shane gives him any shit it'll be for keeping them there so long when he was right about her being dead. Though considering the look on everyone's face, it'll be awhile before anyone gives any shit to anyone.

Dale is starting to get on my nerves, but Andrea is more so. She was so gung-ho about having her gun and learning to use it she didn't learn the most basic, cardinal rule -- if you're not sure what you're shooting at, you don't shoot. It's how she shot Darryl. She couldn't see him clearly because of the glare, but she *could* see everyone else around him, not taking any aggressive or defensive stance, and she shot anyway.

I do like how Darryl responded though. "I get it, you were defending the group. But you shoot me again, best pray I'm dead."

I was really enjoying the show, and can't wait until Feb.

Sophia coming out of the barn was a priceless WTF moment. The way it was shot and acted out, was brilliant. I'm not sure Herschel is going to bounce back from the traumatic event of seeing his family and friends (He saw them as sick, not dead) assassinated before his eyes. I think he might have a crisis of faith, and lose hope. I think he needs to be put on suicide watch!

I do think that Rick showed that he actually is a leader, the way he stepped forward and did what none of the others could bring themselves to do, not even Shane. Shane is always talking about having to make the tough choices, but when it came down to the toughest choice of all, Rick was the one who stepped forward and did what needed doing. I know he felt guilty, and probably felt it was his responsibility - but damn. That was painful to watch.

Arrgh....stupid mid season. You'd think it was the Holidays or something.

Daryl rules!!1! and gets my vote for Most Likely To Survive The Zombie (er, excuse me, Walker) Holocaust..

Yes, Andrea and Lori both get on my nerves, and Dale because he shouldn't be so damn nosy all the time. But I don't want to hazard a guess as to how far off mentally I'd be in that situation, either. World up in smoke, everyone I know dead or undead, terrified every single minute.. although I'd have jumped Daryl before I'dve jumped Shane. Just sayin'.

I think you're probably right about the crisis of faith. It's going to take a while for everything to sink in for Herschel. That was pretty drastic. He even thought of the ripped~in~half zombie at the well as an "incident." It didn't really register. So he's goinng to really have to come to terms with these losses, and then with everything that happened. I imagine while he thought of them as sick, not dead, he could imagine there was hope for them to recover or be cured. Nnow, he'll have to work out the idea that they were dead all along. I think anyone who's lost someone suddenly can relate to that kind of denial.

It'll be interesting to see how the characters respond to Sophia, especially Daryl. He had so much innvested I finding her, I guess as a proxy for finding Merle.

@ Lookie: blame DRH. She taught me that 'bombdiggity' is actually a word that can describe, among other fine things, this show.

Still stuck on a scene from season 1 where Andrea and Rick are in the jewelry dept. of the store. When Andrea is eyeing the necklace and Rick asks her "why don't you take it" and she responds "aah, there's a cop standing next to me, if i took it would it be considered looting?" and he responds "I don't think those rules apply anymore". You can see a sneak peek of the next episode on amc.com though. i did it was pretty intense.

WHat happened to the father and son that took rick in when eh walked out of the hospital? They were left with a rifle and vehicle. they had a good chance. I wonder what became of them.

WHere the hell is me meril?

Another thing. DOes anyone know why when Shane was trying to help Rick get out of the hosptal the milletery was coming in and shooting the uninfected?

Yes but they made an epic screw-up on the thumbnail for the last episode. That image is a rather large plot spoiler for anyone who's not seen the movie yet. Bad call.
