Thanks for the heads-up, DarqueMirror - maybe write them a comment? Maybe they'll change it.

Back at the camp when the were celebrating and the abusive husband was in the tent sulking about getting his ass beat, and then something started scratching at the tent I knew/ suspected right away it was a walker right away, i started shouting at the tv, no don't get up, don't open your tent , it's a walker! and sure enough he opens the tent and gets munched on by a walker.

Well having just watched the most recent episode tonight, I'll go ahead and admit I didn't see it coming at all. Normally in shows and plots like this, I can see them coming a mile away. I'm currently watching Dexter and have a pretty good theory on the bad guy(s). However, in this Walking Dead episode, I was caught unaware. I was thinking (skillfully avoiding most spoilers) "Sure, I can see him making that sacrifice....it makes perfect sense." And then the reveal came and I was like "Holy shit!"

Yep...in this instance, I was caught totally unaware. But then, The Walking Dead's been good at that so far. Back in season one there were people who died that I didn't think would until suddenly a hungry walker came out of nowhere and "chomp chomp!"

Yeah, but that dude really needed to be walker-food. I was glad he died and think I actually cheered when he got munched. If I'd been one of the ladies down at the water trying to wash clothes that day when he came down and started trying to shove everyone around and not just his wife, he wouldn't have been in much shape to get up and open anything. Asshole. (zero tolerance for abusers whether they're real or not, can you tell..?)

Re: the spoiler on the wbesite - I guess they figured that anyone who would bother coming to check out that link would probably be all caught up on their episodes and not regard it as a spoiler, but yeah, I guess a few people pointing that put to them might make them see otherwise. *shrug*

ETS: Merle's a white-supremacist jackass, and while it might be interesting to know how he ended up, on the other hand I hope we don't have to see anything but his ghost when it bothers Daryl again sometime. I do hope they run into that man and his son that helped Rick that first terrible day; in the graphic novel, they do find each other again, but there's really no telling..

Hahha, yeah, being munched couldn't of happened to a better guy. I sure wish he was the only one munched in camp that night.

OK, so I just started watching this show, The first episode reminded me exactly of 28 Days Later.

I think it is going to be too damn scary for me to watch consistently.  I kept looking over my shoulder when I walked down to the barn after dark to feed the horses.  Shudder.  I also was pretty bummed out about the horse in the show getting killed.

The 28 Days Later comment was exactly my thought, too. 28 Days Later was released in Europe before the graphic novel was written (and obviously before the TV show) so it's possible there was some influence there. A lot of people will argue that with you, but that's what I believe.

And yes, the horse dying made me sad, too. :p A horse would be a good resource in that situation, as long as you were able to keep it healthy.

Great to find other fans of this show here. So much to cover, but i'm being lazy tonight.

First, yes the show has diverged from the comics. But that isn't a bad thing, especially with the creator so involved. The only downside to this season has been a lack of more action. Has it made the show more dramatic, yes but that won't always be a good thing. The budget was cut, and the person who brought the show to AMC was forced out. I'm sure it can and will thrive with the current cast and writers, but its never a good sign when your budget is cut.

Second, I love how no one is really safe. If you just enjoy the show and not the books, fine. But when a writer is willing to kill children and characters that are loved, it shows to me that they get drama. Life isn't perfect and if such a situation were to occur, bad things happen to good people.

Finally, why didn't anyone kick Shane's ass? Seriously. I was hoping Rick would have shot him, or at least punched him. Also, how does she know it is Rick's kid? Didn't she sleep with Shane either the same day before, or within a day of Rick coming back?

I agree, I kinda like not knowing what's coming. If it mirrored the comic perfectly, I'd already know what happens by season 3 or 4. I kinda like not knowing.

I suspect Shane's got an ass-kickin' coming. If nothing else, they are due for a nice brotherly squabble.

I'm sure there will be plenty of squabbling with the baby in the mix.

I haven't checked this thread inawhile. I've come to a couple conclusions :

a)Shane's a dick. He had redeeming qualities as a person and he'd certainly be my first choice to have around when the shooting starts but he's pushed the envelope and has basically left any human goodness behind. What he did to Otis pushed him over the edge - it can be debated forever whether or not it was immoral, necessary, etc but Dale made a good point saying that Shane's left his humanity behind. This may seem minor in the big picture but just the way he treated Laurie in the last episode was pretty despicable.

b) to take the Walking Dead discussion in another direction : I think the situation that the survivors are in would lead naturally into poly units forming. Leave out the BDSM, just pure polyamory. Rich/Shane/Laurie initially might have been a good unit, for that matter all of the group could have gone in that direction and been stronger for it. I think most of them are emotionally mature enough to grow into something like that but again - Shane's burned his bridges with me. He should have been - pardon the pun - taken in hand and put in his place(and I'm not suggesting the two are the same or, perhaps they are?) or driven off or simply shot between the eyes before the end of the last episode.

One thing I hope they do when it picks up in February is expose us to other groups of survivors, even temporarily, and see how they've been doing things.

a) Yeah Shane a lost cause in my eyes. He did have good qualities, but at this point I think he's a bit psychotic.

b) I'm sure they will do that. I'd like to see how the hispanics they left in Atlanta are doing, and anyone else they come across. As far as the group being poly, I don't think the Rick/Shane/Laurie group would have worked. Much less with Shane there at all. He is a leader just like Rick, and they don't work in harmony.

For anyone who has Netflix. Check out the French Zombie flick The Horde. I just watched it today, and it was really good. Not scary, but enough drama and black comedy to keep it as a tense action/horror/thriller.

Do you know if theres someone new coming next season? Cuz the way I see it Shane could kick the shi* out all the characters we've seen so far.

I am only through the second episode of the first season, which was awesome.  And I still have that great Wang Chung song that they played at the close of the first episode stuck in my head.  Using that song, along with the camera work, was pretty inspired.

The acting is shyte though isn't it?

Seems the main protagonists only have a couple a facial expressions, with variants of head-angle to add emphasis.

I dont know how far it has gone Stateside, but ere Im downloading the second series one at a time, and everytime I do, I wonder why!

The acting isn't Oscar material...But shyte? I highly doubt that. The performers are strong, and if they weren't it would not being doing so well across such a broad spectrum of watchers.

I don't think the acting is "shyte" but you are right in that they seem to rely on a couple of facial expressions, and particular angling of their noggins. I have noticed that. :p
I think some things are a little overblown, but other things are well done -- it's a balance...

Don't underestimate Rick. If he's got to, he'll throw a guy a beatin', especially when it comes to his family.

Oooo, nice to finally find this thread!

Why hasn't someone kicked Shane's butt, and/or sent him on his way? Because he's being set up for a bigger confrontation. It has way too much potential to blow on one or two scenes.

The best villains come from within, and Shane, smart and powerful, and losing his humanity, has the makings of a great villain. He has a hold on Carl and Maggie (is that her name?).

Shane forces Rick to be exactly what he's tired of being: a hero. He'll have to stand up to Shane.

It doesn't necessarily mean Shane WILL become a villain, but it does mean the writers can have a ball dangling this possibility over our heads indefinitely.

The whole Shane/Rick thing will come down to a boil before the end of the season, or at least that's what it looks like. Rick looks like he is losing all his patience with Shane's bs. Personally we can't wait to see if he does kick Shane's ass all over the place as he deserves. Then again shane might just kick Rick's ass we won't know til it happens. One thing is for sure, Herschel is pretty much done with the group. Expect to see them on the road soon, maybe even more zombie action. We can only hope.
