How is shutting down a port going to help their cause ? Do the protesters think about their fellow union brothers that are now unable to go to work ?

Did I say it was?

Closing the port hurts the city. That was the intention of today.

So their intention is to close businesses so the people that are working can no longer work ? That's a great cause.

A one day cause... or did that fact escape you? How many businesses deleted peoples' jobs permanently?

Oh it will get violent when the police tell them to disperse and the protestors refuse which is disobeying authority. Then the police have every right to take action because the protestor are refusing to obey authority which in itself is a violent action. Because this America and thats how freedom works.

Unfortunately you're right... Three times now the police have felt entitled to get violent with the crowd.
It's awful Hundreds of constitution-abiding US Citizens jailed, dozens hospitalized, hundreds with minor injuries and and one cop who claims paintballs hit him.
It's awful when the police riot.

How about all of the small businesses in Oakland that had to shut down. A lot of people will not get paid. It's only for one day though.

Where was all your concern when the 1% were closing jobs?

Well let's look at this servant...things as they stand are unsustainable ( both left and right can agree on that, though each would assign blame to a different segment of society) these folks are trying to do something about that.
Seems to me that they have the greater good as their goal. Now you might not agree with how they are going about it(see the above explanation) or who they see as the bad guys here.
But what, other than bitching on a forum, are you doing about things.

When a business shuts down a company that's bad. When protesters shut down companies, that's ok ? When did I ever say that I was happy when people were out of work ?

Exactly. When Business Owners threaten to shut down their business because they are going to tax more because they make more is Ok. But when protestor shut down business because they are not being paid fair wages or when their bosses are forcing them to work longer hours for less pay is NOT ok. When will people learn that its ONLY ok when the rich people shut down business when they believe they are unfairly being treated and destroy the economy because they dont want to deal with giving up their money. While its NOT ok for the peons of society to shut down business because they want to be treated fairly and not have to worry that the next time they go to hospital, car accident, or act god cause them to go bankrupt. When will those people learn their place, they dont have a right to rebel against their corporate masters they should be happy they are working.

Lesson in economics for the Abjectly Stupid...

Nearly All the SMALL BUSINESSES in the affected area of Oakland put out signs in support of the Strike as well as MANY of the Medium sized Businesses and what is going to happen (see there are parts of the communication chain you won't ever see because of the destructive nature of your input) is that the folks who chip in today will be patronized  to a greater extent and those that don't ... well they're off the list FOR GOOD... basic consumerism.... support the cause that by the way most of the city supports (otherwise the 'hardcore mayor' and the 'hardcore cheif' of police' wouldn't have backed down so fast).

Fact is my friend, there have been MANY incidents of vilolence on the part of OPD over the years and they've pretty much always been given a nod. WHY???? Because there was no wide ranging community outrage. But the other morning after the citizens of Oakland woke up to see Scott Olson shot in the head more than 100k angry calls landed on the mayor's office and chief of police.... LOCAL CALLS PAL.... DO YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT THAT MEANS?
It means the people of Oakland favor this to a very large extent and it's their City and THEY are taking charge of it. See people with your poorly informed perspective not only get the kind of people these folks are totally wrong. They also can't figure out that most people in these occupations are LOCAL to the area. If this bothers you... complain about your town. Quit trying to tell people in other communities what to think.
There, I was nice enough to explain it to you. My expectation is that your ignorance will be just a little bit abated. If not and you wish to be addressed like a fence post just keep posting the ignorant, bigoted nonsense you have continually posted. this isn't a special needs forum for Christ's sake.
