I'm sure there is a very scientific way to estimate crowd size...but someone must not be using it...so far I've heard 3,000 at the port anyway...I find it hard to believe an error in difference between 3,000 at the peak and 20,000 to 40,000.

I'd say by looking at your links 3,000 is much closer than 40,000 anyway...but my point is not the exact number but how someone is exaggerating one way or the other.

The Tweet said 20-40k That's folks out there busy with the march and their facilitator jobs. They heard that on the local news radio. Either way, I have not heard anyone actually involved exaggerate anything so far. I have however heard every half-assed underestimation by the local nay-sayers that can be imagined. One bozo that basically got the previous thread locked stated he was sure there were a couple hundred. And I confirmed later there were more than 1000 for the breakfast march. The San Jose Mercury did a good job fucking up facts all day constantly revising the same article to make it a little less ridiculous as things grew.
But as I said earlier. The thing that puts this day in the history books is that the first general strike in the US since 1946 occurred today. And that is RATHER significant.

Nice folks.

Though of course they failed to shut down any schools.

And zero unions joined the strike.

In terms of a general strike it was a total failure.

In terms of your average lefty protest it was violent and kind of small, not even close to 1% of the metro region participated.

It is funny that skippy feels a need to lie about the other thread, anyone who likes can go look at it.

But heck he was on all day telling lies about it.

Just how OWSers operate, when they are not pressuring rape victims to keep quiet.

LMAO you dont get the concept do you
its so simple, but even now you think it means something, and have no clue as to the real meaning.
Truly pathetic, but to be expected, and mocked.

You are pretending to be so far above it, when in fact all you are is ignorant to the truth
smug superciliousness is your stock in trade, you get what you deserve.

Anyone got reliable crowd estimates yet?

Ive seen 3000 and 5000.

A telling thing is that it's starting to have sympathetic rumbles in other cities.
As traditionally apathetic as this country has been politically, Things vould get interesting.

This:

•In New York, about 100 military veterans marched in uniform through Manhattan to protest what they called police brutality against the Iraq War veteran injured in Oakland. Marine Sgt. Shamar Thomas, who went toe to toe recently with officers policing activists in Times Square, said soldiers who risked their lives have the right to protest an economy that gives them a slimmer chance of finding jobs than most Americans

Is also a bit telling.

Here's the source if anyone is interested.

I infer from the article that the light was initially red. It turned green, and then, according to the witness quoted, the driver got frustrated and hit the gas. And the Bart oinks let him go?

Fuck that.

If he had hit the gas while his car was surrounded by people there would have more injuries than that. But don't let common sense get in your way. We all know how much you hate cops.

I dunno, boi. I was at a concert once in Ft Lauderdale (pretty sure it was Bob Seger). and some idiot was imatient to go while people were basically shoulder to shoulder and he finally just said fuckit and gunned it. Miraculously, he only went over one preson and she wasn't hurt badly because it was a dirt parking lot and it was mud city..
Everyone else either parted or went over his hood.

The numbers in Oakland will only continue to grow. Injuring that vet ratcheted this one up to a whole new level; the fuzz will get a lot of over-time because of it. This could be problematic because Oakland is one of those cities that has the potential to get violent. Unless something takes a turn for the worse in New York--where the protestors have been (mostly) cooperative given the circumstances--then Oakland will take center stage.

As long as it doesnt impact the best Thai restaurant in California, on the Oakland/Alameda border, who cares?

Your obvious ire and right wing bias, is clouding your ability to check your facts. Maybe if you were to check your facts, you would stop looking so stupid.

HK`s comment is exactly what was reported by ABC7 as you can see from below

quote:

Protesters struck by car

Two protesters were injured Wednesday evening after being struck by a car at the intersection of 11th Street and Broadway. The driver of the car reportedly had become frustrated by the protesters marching in the street and had tried to drive through the crowd. The first person sustained multiple injuries from the initial hit and the second person's leg was injured after the car backed into her.

Video of the incident appears to show the protester slapping the hood of the Mercedes just before being hit.

One of the victims was transported from the scene by ambulance. Both victims sustained non life-threatening injuries.

The driver was allowed to leave the scene after being interviewed by police.

You must have an odd definition of "General strike".
