"Let them eat cake!"

One day, erie, they may decide to actually ask what is meant by "income inequality"... but Im not holding my breath on that. Its easier for them to go with the misconception that the protesters want them to give up their money, than to actually know the truth.

I read a while back that the Floyd moved country to record albums elsewhere to avoid paying heavier taxes in the UK. This was at a time when Woger et al were loudly proclaiming their socialist principles! Same thing with other humanitarians like Bono, that Hedge guy and the other 2 of U2. These guys are generous with their words, less so in other respects.

Correction "Woger' as you call him collects his royalty here in the US and it's taxed. What David Gilmore does to make money.
And I bet at the end of the day, they give many times what you make to bona fide charities and invest greener as well.
I won't speak for Bono... he's a product of your culture and not as many in the US as you might think give a shit about ole Bono.

In the past Roger has done an amount of tax dodging as with the recording of The Wall in France for example whilst playing socialist. The point about Bono and U2 is a general one about this hypocrisy. Bono is perhaps the best known figure around the world for supporting debt forgiveness etc. He gets involved in social issues but won't pay his taxes at home.

Gilmour is a great guitarist, not a good one.
If Waters isn't the singer he was that can only be a good thing.
He isn't in the same class as a singer. Are you deaf or a relation?
Waters wrote segments and movements, hardly ever proper songs.
These were realised by a band of far superior musicians than himself.

His solo albums stunk the place out too.

Dave Gilmour was given a CBE for his charity work.
He has raised and donated tens of millions.
He's an honest working pro, still passionate about everything to do with music.

Those charities must be why he produces where he does, I suppose.
I'm not concerned with him because he's not doing a fucking thing for the movement and he maintains no permanent residence in the US.
Which is okay, but irrelevant to my point.
And regardless, American floyd fans will be glad Waters is supporting OWS. Tell David there's plenty of room in the park.

Beck's an instrumentalist. What's Constipated Duck got to do with social issues?

But the guys who kept the name haven't impressed me a lot either, since his departure. They were all better, I think, in the clash of creativity, with Roger's constructions channeling, and giving direction to music that was otherwise a mush.

Agreed. His solo stuff has had nothing of the soaring magnificence of of the 70's albums. He might hire some excellent guitarists to work with him, but he'd be better off if there was somebody able to say, "YES, you arrogant, self-righteous, prick, it does too need a goddamn guitar solo, so find a place to make it fit!"

How about you shut the fuck up about Bono?  I know you're dying to sound all long-winded and knowledgeable... but YOU Brought Bono up! Nobody fucking cares. If I went down to OWS tonight and told I'd secured Bono to perform, I guarantee they'd say SO FUCKING WHAT?
Just like they say about Mike Moore, Just like they say about Geraldo Rivera, Just like they say Alec Baldwin.
However, if you told them Roger was coming they would be mildly interested because his lyrical concepts address their issue. If Warren Haynes showed up, they'd get really excited because he possesses something all the guys you and others mentioned no longer have REAL SOUL.
We're not looking for a rock icon but it's nice to know, they get what a good many here apparently don't

If waters draws the bigger crowd, then that's best for the movement. It's a numbers game.
I'm a blues guitar player. It's why I have this handle.
Not because I'm an axe wielding maniac.
That's just a hobby.

If you love guitar, it becomes as individual as a singing voice.
Beck and Gilmour are both blues stylists.
Beck has a more individual technique, especially with the whammy bar. Great hands.
He refuses to compromise and has turned down most bands inc the Stones.
He didn't want to play an ancient back catalog of hits every night.
Gilmour is very sweet and crisp. Some great technical players cannot do what he does.
I'd compare his playing to Roy Orbison's singing voice for example.

At least we can all agree that Bono is a cunt.
It's cool when someone comes along that unites everybody.
What a guy.

Shame he has us on block, huh, Sanity? Maybe I should go post it in my profile, so he'll know to answer the question?

I'm pretty familiar with Beck... back in the days of Cambridge, Ma being a REAL music mecca as opposed to what it is now. Beck, and a LOAD of others used to all too frequently play off the end of my table at Jonathan Swift's best live music joint the east coast ever sported...every bit as good as the Bottom Line in NYC and between 75 and about 82... there was NOTHING to compare to is.
Anyway, I like his style a lot and my point was more about his being non-vocal... and truly about his axe. A lot of us are no stanger to guitar.

I think you're being overly harsh on Waters' role as a musician in the Floyd: he was certainly no Danny Thompson or Jaco Pastorius, but he's a perfectly good rock bassist, and apparently played most of the synth parts on the '70s records as well: supposedly the late Rick Wright used to start gibbering if he was expected to play anything other than a piano or an electric organ...

Charming manners but you still haven't explained why I should "shut the fuck up about Bono"? I'm not looking for a war of words on the thread but just expressing an alternative point of view. I already explained that Bono was an example akin to Waters. Indeed I did bring Bono up but it was to point to another example of a rock star who says one thing with all his avowed humanitarianism but does another. Waters may be similar judging by some of his past behaviour. BTW if you secured U2 to perform at OWS there would be far more interest. They sell vastly more than Waters, who hasn't been in Pink Floyd since 1984, and it seems many concert goers go to hear Water's old PF stuff rather than his solo work.

What is it about a successful, wealthy person disagreeing with the right wing that scares the piss out of them?

and for all of you going on about guitarists, all I have to say is "WHO???" Have you never heard of Bruce Cockburn?

The 2nd clip is the better, but the first is the more relevant. These are not his best works, but I had to choose clips that kept somewhat on topic.
