Who would expect a government to fail that took 26% of total income of both personal and corporate?

I am pretty sure that the constitution requires that the congress and not the president is responsible for taxation...or did I not get the memo?

Which has gotten smaller year by year. Currently, I believe its at 19 or 18%

Many of these individual tax cuts and credits expire at the end of this year and next, but they will not close loopholes for corporations. How was it that Reagan increased tax revenue?

Didn't Obama promise not to raise taxes on the middle class ? More hope and change.
He is not raising taxes....he is letting the " temporary"Bush tax cuts expire....at least I hope he is.Unless he caves again.

So if a country with a defense budget equal to a single digit percentage of the u.s. can make it on 18-19% tax on all income personal and corporate then the u.s. should be able to do the same?

I don't know why this is so hard to understand, but:

Congress passes legislation.
Changes in the tax code require legislation.
Obama is not in Congress.

Is that clear enough for you?  Did you sleep through civics class in high school?

You missed a step: President signs legislation, making it law.

How do the poor benefit from increased tax revenue?

What is it our taxes pay for? Increased education, increased infrastructure, increased hiring, increased Medicaid/Medicare.... the list goes on and on.

Ahhh.. but there you are wrong in your comparison.

Population

3 United States 312,582,000 November 10, 2011

152 Estonia 1,340,194 January 1, 2011

Military spending

1 United States 698,105,000,000 4.7% (GDP, 2010)

90 Estonia 336,000,000 2.3% (GDP 2010)

One percentage point?

Would you care to answer the question I asked?
How do the poor benifit from paying for the crumbs of a pie they do not get to eat?
If you wish to increase tax revenues then you should tax those who eat the pie and not those who get the crumbs.

Perhaps if you were to learn how to do arithmetic you would not need a prybar to get your feet out of your mouth
698,105,000,000/336,000,000=1/2077 which is a tiny fraction of 1%

Gee thompson, everyone eats at the table. Are you suggesting some people shouldnt pay at all? I have already covered poverty level... a progressive tax creates the fucked up mess we have today.

But, perhaps you should enlighten us... what crumbs do the poor pay for but not eat in a flat tax system?
