quote:
ORIGINAL: tazzygirl The problem comes when they try a modified flat tax... that never works and only serves to benefit the rich. Correction: it only serves the entrenched. Nowhere is that as apparent as here, where the rich were completely on board with the idea, along with the socialists and the liberals, but the whole thing got shot down by Labor and the beurocrats' labor union. They are the entrenched ones in Norway, whereas the rich are not. You have a business and politics model where politics and big money go hand in hand. We have one where beurocrats and labor unions and the labor party go hand in hand. The trick being that we're up to the fraction of people having a vested, permanent interest in a labor party majority exceeding a third of the voter mass while the labor party keeps increasing that pool of laborers, on everyone else's taxes, creating a mutual dependency. It's actually kind of interesting, but ultimately frustrating, as they're a parasite on the whole. In communism, they are the healthy tissue, and load bearing. In the Norwegian model, they are a tumor being supplied by the healthy tissue. The US model seems more closely analogous to a hostage taking situation, but going with the existing analogy, most of the tissue is getting necrotic from hypoxia due to a constriction. In both cases, surgery is called for, but neither country has got the insurance in order. Flat tax and flat benefits are two very effective surgeries, but the patients aren't convinced being well again will pay for it. Health, al-Aswad.
