I am really angry that the US govt gave MX govt locations of minuteman.  PA has sent its share of volunteers per the minutemen project.

Congress ought to be- outsourced.

Immigration reform is/will be a trainwreck!

66 million are expected- when this passes!  Thats alot of people.

We did amnesty in 1986. It failed.

How do I tell my Slavik friends in EU- well others have cut in front of the line?

Why do they [MX] insist on special rights?

Emergency rooms will close left and right. I want the 3% tax on my phone money returned to me. [ a tax to pay for spanish american war]

RIP= USA.  1776-2006

Congress sucks!    The public be damned.

Regards-

Those mexicans get to the front of the line, because they come cheap.
And you are getting way more than your measley 3% phone tax from those immigrants.
Mexican immigrants are the incountry outsourcing that can't be sent to 3rd world desperate workers. They do the dirty work that is right on your doorstep, and they do it cheap.
It would be best for the US and Mexico to stop immigration in it's present form ( cheap desperate labour ). The US citizens could do the dirty work, and learn how valuable a service it is. Then the wages might go up. Mexico would be stuck with a lot of people with higher expectations and the courage to fight for them, and might get better as a result.
Too much of immigration everywhere in this world, is just desperation, and blackmailed labour.

The Latino culture is hardworking and beautiful in many ways.

NAFTA was supposed to pull MX up. The aquilladoora zone 20 miles at border was to pull up living standards.

The amnesty will further exatbate a 2 tiered society.

--not everyone has nannies or servants.

Slavics, ukraniuns, poles, Irish, Pakistanis, work hard too.

On a personal note- It bothers me- that Social Security does not have to tell a person when their number has been fraudulently used.

Voluntteers could offer shutttle one way home. Western union wires could be stopped. Give a man fish- he eats that day- give him a fishing rod -he eats for life.  We could give them fishing rod- their entire country could be a  lovely place. Why not make it nice there?

I think we should lobby Mexico to allow foreigners to own private property in Mexico.  If that occured, they would get a huge influx of new landowners and the native population would have the same type of job - but in their own country...and they wouldn't be sending US $ back home.

I am more angry that our government started a war that is can't win and keeps on killing people daily. When I weigh that against amnesty I just cant help thinking that the first is more important to to me than the last.

I do not have a problem with Mexicans, I have a problem with people that exploit their slave status because they are illegal and cannot get what's coming to them and what they work for. People who hire illegals are breaking their nation's laws, illegals are not citizens, therefore our laws mean nothing to them, and why should they?

I'd sure like to own some river/ beach front property in the state of Veracruz. However, I don't think it would change things much, considering something in the order of four percent of the population controls all of the wealth.

With such a vast array of minerals, oil and other valuable natural resources, it's a wonder the masses don't rise up and take back what essentially is theirs.

On another note..... Did anyone pay attention to the voting aspect of the senate's immigration bill? What's both telling and ironic, is the fact that the Democratic Senators who were up for reelection later this year {and next} -- such as folks like Robert Byrd -- all voted against the bill, but the Republicans who weren’t up for reelection for another four to six years, all voted for it - And McCain and someone else who is running for president, didn't vote at all! And you know why they didn't vote, right?

From my vantage point, manipulation at that level is so egregious it oughta be considered a felony. And that's not even taking into consideration some of the language contained in the provisions!

Why does E/everyone assume that only people of Mexican descent will benefit from amnesty?  What about Vietnamese, Russsian and other influxes of illegal aliens?

i strongly suspect that those who oppossed amnesty included a large number of bigots.  IMO, bigotry is a mortal sin, meaning an eternity of damnation if not absolved before death.  (imma Catholic.)

These people are already here, already suffering as they are refused welfare, public education, health care and generallly exploited by evil-doers.  They were counted in the last census; it's not as if the population of Florida or Texas or California is going to double overnight.

i think most people opposed to amnesty need to do a gut-check.  Unless Y/you're a Native American Y/you are the descendent of immigrants.

Generally the ones that aren't from Mexico are immediately enrolled in the immigration machinery. They can't just walk in. They arrive at airports or seaports. Of course Canada has a leaky border, but it goes pretty much both ways as far as US/CDN. Few Mexicans get across the CDN border from the US, and those that go south from Canada have likely arrived here by seaport or airport and been tagged.
And YES!!!!! Who are Americans and Canadians? Not most of us. We are all immigrants. All Africans after all. Sneeer at that you snotty french men :)

My My....That’s a mighty broad and narrow-minded statement from a supposedly learned person. Isn’t that akin to me saying ''All home owners who complain to the police about junk and disabled cars being parked in their culdesac, do so because they don’t like poor people?

What about the pepperoni pizza argument ; When the slices become so small, they no longer taste good?!!?

I’ll tell ya what…. I like Newt Gigrich's idea : Those who want amnesty and bigger government, can open up their wallets and go to their bank of choice and start depositing money over and above what they pay in taxes. And those us who don’t want amnesty or to continue to see our standard of living eroded -- because amnesty is nothing more than pyramid scheme for big business to drive down the wage pool -- can sit back and watch ya’ll and not pay anything.

If there were no immigrants working for substandard wages, you would have to open ypour wallet and pay more anyways.
Pay more for those dirty jobs, and ultimately pay more for living in your country. ( but it would even out very nicely )
Or let immigrants do it for cheap, and have a general lowering of wages. Sort of works out the same dollar wise. But works out well lifewise whoever does the jobs for a decent wage.

We pay either way.

Mexcio isnt as "native" to the land...as Spain conquered Mexico.

When Spaniards brought horses to California- the seeds in the poop wrecked Californias pristine natural eco plant system. The plants in California are not native- the current foilage is inferior to what had been there.

Excellent points brought up in this thread.

Biggot is sorta a strong word.

The oil war to is a bad thing. "shared sacrafice".... hmmmmm.

I am really getting angry at sloppy legislation. They dont read what they sign. [congress]

This debate would be SO different if Ceasar Chaves was here to unionize/organize.
True many Americans wont pick lettuce. Who eats lettuce? Throw some MSG - corn syrup in a box and thats a meal.

Foreigners by law can not own coastal land in Mexico. MX controls its own southern border.

But now really- if one cuts in front of the line at a movie, most will be annoyed.

Will these new people be paid prevailing wage-? Lets make it interesting. Pay everyone 1980 wage in todays dollars.

They have failed to build themself a doable country. So now they seek to "manage" the USA.

Follow the money. Usually thats where the curprit is. These guest workers are second or third tier. "pay a man a fair days wage, for a fair days work"  ha!  CEO agenda is to cut jobs and be paid millions, which get hidden offshore.
"compassionate conservatism"  hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Canadians have no reason to breach the border. Many feel they have buildt a decent society. Canadians actually have more or a reason to keep Americans out- then the reverse.

big·ot:
n. One who is strongly partial to one's own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ.

quote:

The word that is most telling in the definition above is intolerant. I am not intolerant of anyone. This country is a melange of cultures and that is what makes America as strong as it is. People here illegally are breaking the law. I guess if it is OK to break the law in this instance then it is OK to do so in other instances too. I couldn't care less what nationality these people are, they have no right to be here until they enter the country legally.

As far as a gut check is concerned, my family came to America quite some time ago. Funny... they came here legally and were welcomed with open arms. Telling someone that they can't bitch because we were immigrants too is merely foolishness if our ancestors entered America legally.

quote:

These people are already here, already suffering as they are refused welfare, public education, health care and generallly exploited by evil-doers.

You are making it sound as if illegal immigrants have a right to these things. They do not. Why? Because they are here illegally. If they had gone through the proper channels and done it the right way like every other legal immigrant, then they would not be exploited, they would have rights and they would be a citizen. It is a simple equation.

I feel bad for those people being exploited but it is their own doing. Business does not help by taking full advantage of the cheap labor.

i realise that the amnesty will further erode the middle class...and that this country is headed to hell in a handbasket if it disintegrates.  i am not in disagreement with P/pl who opposed amnesty on these grounds.

Btw, 60 million illegal aliens?  Why isn't A/anyone calling for the heads at INS?

er... it certainly is not treasoness.... that is not a word in the English language.... It amazes me, it honestly does... I am assuming you also are 100% for having English our national language , and yet you do not even speak it properly(I am not saying I am not, just so you have that in print before ya flame me ;)  ). Here you are saying amnesty is (well you are saying it is a word that does not exist, but I will distill that to mean treasonous) awful, punishable by death....are you also a part of the Christian right?  Do you think Jesus would consider amnesty a crime punishable by death... (treason is punishable by death)?  Look up the word amnesty and tell me pardoning for wrong doing, especially when that wrong doing is committed, usually by people who are desperate to survive, is something you think you should have someone put to death for.

This problem goes so far beyond those poor hopeless people who flee their country out of desperation.  You want to start punishing people for this problem?  Start with the fat cats who ARE citizens of this country and are disobeying our laws and are hiring them.
