I saw a ghost once, but it turned out to be a child out for halloween in a sheet.
(I gave him a punch in the mouth rather than candy: his mum was well narked...)

Technically you don't know.  Technically there's yet to be established a preponderance of evidence which would make the idea of ghosts as a reality something which is scientifically verifiable.

So you don't 'know'.  You just feel that people who believe in ghosts have insufficient evidence upon which to base such a belief.

I'd also like to point out that you've fallen into a common trap, whereby you believe you know the answer and have therefore abandoned reason to support your view.  Something, I believe, you've chastised others for.

Your experiences aren't in question, just your interpretation of them.

One doesn't have to die to know, one only needs to be reasonable and clear headed and base their deductions on common sense and science.

Not true, its not that I feel they have insufficient evidence, its more that people who believe in ghosts are simply wrong.

Nope. I'm pretty clear on my interpretation. No question in my mind.
Anywho...it doesn't affect my beliefs at all if some don't believe.
Like I said, my belief provides me with tremendous comfort. You having a different viewpoint doesn't take that away from me at all.
And I'm certainly not going to try to convince anyone that they have to share my personal views on something that truly doesn't affect each other at all.

The op wondered whether ghosts exist. to me, based on my life and my experiences, they do.

Well, I'm not going to argue with you about it, if making things up brings you comfort, then you're free to do so, I guess.

If always having to try and convince everyone that you're right brings you comfort, then you're free to do so, I guess.

Well, if you had been paying attention, you would see that I haven't made the slightest effort to convince anybody of anything in this thread, I simply stated my position regarding the OP's question, which you disputed.

Perhaps you're not really as secure in your beliefs regarding ghosts as you claim, since having me say you're wrong certainly seems to have discomforted you.

For clarity since you lack the knowledge and education, "stating your position" would have involved the statement, "in my belief," or something to that effect.

It isn't that you are bringing anyone "discomfort" with what you state. It is the ignorant, self-centered way in which you think you are so knowledgeable about things that scientists who are far more educated and knowledgeable than you aren't sure of.

Maturity and intelligence is having the ability to admit you might not know everything. When you grow up, you might figure that out.

I didn't believe in ghosts until I lived in a house that was haunted down in North Carolina. Me and my then girlfriend stayed at this place, and in the summer, when you were indoors, you could hear cannons going off. When you went outside, nothing. From what my girlfriend told me, there had been a rather significant Civil War battle fought in that area, and she believes that's where the cannons come from.

Also in the house, in the attic, at night, you can hear whispering voices. And one time, when I was there all by my lonesome, all of a sudden there was an incredible pounding that rapidly grew louder, and came from everywhere at once.

Also the old Wyoming State Penitentiary in Rawlins is haunted. At night you can see lights coming on, despite the fact there's absolutely no power going into it.

I hope when I die I come back as an evil spectre that haunts children.

What do you mean when you come back? You already do that

To the OP:
Yes, I believe in ghosts, I believe in demons, I believe in evil...I believe in good.

I have seen too many things in my life to not believe in them.

Damn, my hobby is out...

And here's another shocker:  I've been dead for the past forty years.

Believing in ghosts is like believing in the boogeyman, something I grew out of about the time I entered grade school.
